Maybe I missed it, but with the new Medium Brown coming out (Hogwarts Magical
Trunk is for sale today), I wanted to see if there would be another discussion,
like there was with Neon Yellow.
It strikes me as similar to BL Medium Brown, so I could certainly see "New Medium
Brown". Also I made a swatch based on similar colors. I'd really like to
see what everyone thinks, but honestly one of the key reasons I'm bringing
it up is that I *do not* want to see both colors covered by one BL name.

A new shade of medium brown could be called "New Medium Brown," but I
don't think any colors should have "New" in their name because eventually
the color is no longer new.

Personally, I vote for "London Clay" or "Morning Coffee". Or better yet, "London
Coffee".
Coffee Brown seems somewhat accurate, but I'm not so sure about the name.
I think Umber Brown would make a great name, but that color name is all over
the place. There are some reddish versions closer in color to the new Medium
Brown...

Light Bluish Brown.
History repeats...
You joke, but "medium reddish brown" would kind of make sense if it is a lighter
version of Reddish Brown.

Using the adverb "new" as a noun, will inevitably fail as both given time
A salient point for the catalog folks to consider, David
TLG came up with "New Dark Red" a few years ago - very different hue to Dark
Red, the distinction wasn't made here. Not sure if they still go by "New
Dark Red" now

I agree that I don't want to see both covered by one BrickLink name.
Attached a few images that I found online.

Very Dark Nougat? Very Medium Brown? Maybe since it's meant for skin tones,
it can have the name "Flesh", at least for a while (jk)

I thought that I found a nice compromise between LEGO's and Bricklink's
naming systems and the existing colours when I proposed renaming Dark Flesh into
Medium Brown... That did not last long.

This one is a tough situation. The official LEGO name is "Medium Brown", but
BrickLink already has a "Medium Brown". The BrickLink "Medium Brown" is LEGO

Maybe go with "Medium Brown 2022", like Bladerunner 2049.

Two possible choices I have come up with that would avoid any color renaming:
"Light Brown" - This is a name used by LEGO for what is BrickLink "Fabuland Orange",
but BrickLink does not use this name yet. It is simple and short.
"Nougat Brown" - Since this color comes between "Reddish Brown" and "Medium Nougat"
on the skin tone scale, this one is a blend of those names. It is also simple
and short.
Light Brown seems really confusing to me. Because I can see that it isn't
IDENTICAL to medium brown, but it is pretty close. If they wind up sharing a
piece in common (The does seem rather unlikely...) it would be pretty hard to
tell which one is which on sight with no reference. When I see Light and Medium,
I expect to be able to recognize the difference with my eye.

I like Nougat brown. It has a good sound. But I really 1001Bricks suggestion
for
Light Bluish Brown, that way we can have a lot of new bees asking how to tell
the difference between light bluish brown and light brown just like we do from
time to time with the grays - I know at first I had a hard time telling the difference
between the grays and still sometimes do with the light ones.

Even thought renaming could feel like a mess, it might be good to remane the
current Medium Brown as it is used just for 42 pieces in the entire catalog.
That would mean that the new color would have parity with Lego, and as new sites
talk about it they usually use the LEGO name and would create confusion to give
a different name on here. Also we can expect this new color to be used more than
the other.

Would it be that difficult to rename all of the BrickLink colors to match the
official LEGO name? That would make a lot of logical sense…
In all seriousness, though, how hard would it be? As someone who isn't familiar
with the catalog side of things, I don't understand why they can't just
rename the colors to match the official LEGO name or why we even have different
color names in the first place. If it were up to me, each color would have a
unique ID, and changing the name of a color would be a simple matter of changing
which name is associated with which ID. But I'm no data engineer…

It would be very difficult. BrickLink currently recognizes 236 colors, while
Lego has over 300 known colors (give or take, not counting multicombination IDs).
It's more complicated than a 1:1 name substitution. BrickLink's color
system has a very different purpose than Lego's: Making things easy for buyers
and sellers. I think Dark Bluish Gray could be changed to Dark Stone Grey without
too much trouble, but what do you do when a new seller has to decide whether
to list as Silver or Cool Silver? Have you ever tried to separate your 22 Medium
Reddish Violet bricks from your 221 Bright Purple?

I have a soft spot for Bricklink names. In my opinion, they are usually "better"
than the Lego names.
I agree. I much prefer "Light Bluish Gray" to "Medium Stone Grey" and "Tan" to
"Brick Yellow", but that's just my opinion. I think consistency is more important.

Actually I like both more than Medium Brown in the first place. The "Medium"
word always confuses me, as sometimes it means "lighter" and sometimes it means
"darker".. it basically just means "another"
I think that Nougat Brown and Medium Reddish Brown are the best names given so
far.
This new color looks so close to the old Medium Brown...
So why release unnecessary new color and not returning the old one to the pallet?

With the precedent set by Medium Blue and Medium Azure, I suggest Medium Marron.

Does anyone have both the new heads and one of the old Medium Brown heads? I
would like to see a comparison, since they look very similar from the images
that I have seen.
Also, @crimson30, why do you not want the new brown to be merged with the existing
Medium Brown colour? There are a number of other BL colours that are a combination
of multiple LEGO colours (Flat Silver, Copper, etc), so if there is no substantial
difference between them, I am not sure that we need a new colour. 🤔

I think there is enough difference between the two to warrant separate colors
in the BrickLink catalog. Especially if the "New Medium Brown" becomes more common.

Having one name for two colors is a pain. It makes hunting down bricks in TLG
121 or finding a 3001 in TLG 112 that much harder. Just contact the seller,
you say? I do that. A lot. It sucks.
Using Lime for Pastel Green / Fabuland Lime... not a huge deal if you ask me,
since there's no crossover in parts between the 2 colors. There are other
fringe cases like using Dark Orange for 216 Rust... again, if you know what you're
doing, you know what you're getting because the parts in 216 Rust aren't
available in Dark Orange (as far as I know). But even then, back when I didn't
know if x234 came in Dark Orange, I messaged all the sellers with a listing and
all but one of them basically said "No, it's not 216 Rust. It's Dark
Orange."
