| I am wondering if buying from Russia right now is high risk. I know that mail
service to and from Ukraine is a problem right now, but I am not sure of the
impact on Russia.

There is a real threat of an embargo on Russia and right now, russian airplaines
aren't allowed over much of Europe and Canada. So russian mail should be
disrupted. And then, there's the moral implications of buying there, your
choice.

Just my two cents.

| Most of Europe’s airspace is closed to Russian flights, it’s fairly safe to assume
that it will cause problems with any Mail in or out of Russia.

--------
European Union is closing airspace for alle planes
- registered in Russia
- owned by Russians / Russia
- controlled by Russians / Russia
Germany has already closed airspace.
I think this is also valid for Cargo. I suppose freight has to go for some detours
through other states.
It is a pity this non-sense escalated

The Russian seller contacted me and is not willing to hold the item for me until
all cools down, and I understand why the seller would not want to take the risk,
as it is a low demand item and they might have an opportunity to sell it to someone
in their own country.

PayPal draws funds from credit card systems (VISA/MC/others) or from standing
PayPal balances (which may be funded from payments received, bank balances, and
possibly debit cards).
SWIFT is more associated with bank to bank transfers, and is (in most cases)
the only way to receive IBAN payments to the USA. If PayPal uses SWIFT to move
funds internally, it would be more likely on a gross daily settlement basis,
and not on an individual transaction basis.

The delivery time to Europe will be extended. That's for sure. Because the
parcels will be delivered by land. As long as the U.S. airspace is open, everything
will work as usual.
Personally, I have so far limited the number of countries for shipping.

| I do not and cannot condone what the government and army of Russia has done in
Ukraine the last few weeks, but I think we'd all do well to remember first
that probably none of our friends here on Bricklink invaded anyone and what any
of our Russian friends here are doing or thinking about it is probably pretty
complicated. Every person on Bricklink loves their country and every person
on Bricklink disagrees with some of the things their government does. The rule
against political discussion on this forum is a good one because we can all be
friends here, whatever is going on. We probably have friends here on both sides
of this issue.
Straight to Eileen's point, I would have to unfortunately say that I wouldn't
risk it right now, because the situation is fluid and the legal and logistical
issues are complicated. Moving toys in and out of Russia right now is not any
official priority. But please be ready to welcome our Russia stores back when
things are more settled one way or the other. Whether they agree with it or
not, none of this is their fault.

I adopted cats so I would adopt a French person. I do have criteria though,
not under 20, female, and happy to come to the US. Down deep inside I like the
French. Very brave during WWII except for the Vichy government. And they were

Though I tend to agree, it's actually something you can debate, and I do
follow the logic of stores that would keep some kind of boycott. But IMO it's
not going to be effective unless perhaps it's going to be part of a real
dramatic change in everyday life (and actually, we are kind of going in that
direction). Knowing Russian nature a bit, I think the people would only stand
up if they really run into a dead-end in their life. If it's just going to
be some online businesses nagging them by not sending things anymore, it could
quickly be accepted as just another one of those annoying things you just have
to bear in an already pretty harsh daily life. That would just be a loss for
everyone.
To Russians who may be reading this: Maybe it's comforting for you to know
that even if sanctions are hitting you very hard right now, people over here
at least do understand it isn't the Russian people who wanted this war. We
have plenty of media coverage of Russian protests, Russians against the war,
and the problems Russians are facing right now. People here don't hate you!

+1. How brave these protesters are. Rather like the one man that stood in the
way of a line of Chinese tanks.

In the current situation Bricklink should not allow any transactions between
Russia and the rest of world.
Because of sanctions and logistical problems.
As far as I know it's no longer possible to send/receive money to/from Russia
right now.
Don't know how BL could enforce this, but it's clear that
BL should take action as soon as possible to make it clear for all buyers
and sellers, no matter where they are located.

| A lot of the Russian stores i've bought from in the past have taken Euro's
or Rubles. With the exchange rates where they are right now any Russian store
that has their inventory priced in Rubles is going to get crushed. At least
1 seller I've bought from in the past has repriced their inventory in Euros
to avoid taking a 35% discount against the Dollar (yes I was looking for a deal).
Not sure if internet transactions via Stripe or PayPal are effected in these
central baking sanctions, they are more driven to destabilizing their ability
to fund Government vs small internet transactions.

As of this morning...
With the concerted attack on the what was a stable currency, the Ruble has plummeted
against other major currencies. Though it has been stabilized some, with the
overnight 20% interest rate hike, the push to implode the currency, will continue.
I’d add, this type of attack on, and the elicited response from what is a G20
economy, is unprecedented and therefore somewhat uncertain what to expect in
the coming days.
All that to say, if Russian BL sellers can remain open on this or other platforms,
and sort out the payment question at some point soon, their inventory pricing
would be highly competitive through the exchange rates (even if some/many deal
in USD or EUR, given the sanctions on the central bank) Something BL members
could take advantage of in supporting their fellow AFOLS in Russia going forward.
But for now, with the sanctioning of their central bank (few thought would happen),
it may soon be endgame for cross-border sales in Russia, for awhile anyway.
Just a little more input that hopefully helps in you determining the "Risks of
buying" for yourself. No more.

I was actually thinking that this might be why the set seemed so well priced,
and if I actually proceeded to pay, a change in exchange rate might have me paying
a lot more. The exchange rate is not stable at all, and when I tried to look
up how much it had fallen, I got a wide range of results, both on current value
and how much it had fallen.
The Russian seller I was communicating with initially thought there should be
no problem (that was early yesterday), however by this morning he indicated that
we should wait until things stabilize. I have no idea how much information Russian
citizens have compared to what I have access to. However they must have access
to this site as we were able to message each other.

Excuse me; but I thought it was a joke...
Is somebody really considering right now making business with Russia, seriously?

You'd be surprised how few members read the forum. You can always direct
them to it, though. We've gotten a lot of forum participants over the years
in this manner
Don't know how much they are informed of current events in realtime, either.
I suspect less than what's being thrown at us in the west, though perhaps
more factual. Keep in mind, the power and internet has for the most part not
been cut in Ukraine. Something that is normally SOP in an invasion

Not the Times...
Both U.S. based shipping giants halted inbound and outbound services to Ukraine
on Feb. 24 until further notice and have additionally imposed restrictions on
deliveries to destinations in Russia. "Our focus is on the safety of our people,
providing continued service and minimizing disruption to our customers," UPS
stated in a service alert on its website. "UPS continues to closely monitor the
situation and will re-establish service as soon as it is practical and safe to
do so.” FedEx also announced that they are "monitoring the situation and have
contingency plans in place, including temporarily suspending inbound and outbound
services to Ukraine and inbound service to Russia until further notice.”
And ahead of the US government, imagine that

Should tell you a deal, if you're mind is open for business.

USPS halted mail to/from Ukraine, because the Ukraine Post advised the UPU they
were unable to handle transit. I'm not sure if USPS can do this unilaterally
(vis-a-vis Russia), or if they are required to exchange mail until one or the
other suspends all transit (which is what happened with Ukraine). The situation
is very fluid.
More interesting is that the Russian UN delegation is being expelled from the
US, and the ambassador must leave by 7 March. I can think of several reasons
for that, but we shall see how it plays out.
