Regarding 3003 Transparent colors, why are they not more correctly cataloged
as 3003old (without inside support bars)? It would seem this is inconsistent
with the opaque colors that can easily be defined by the inclusion or absence
of these support bars.

Part No: 3003  Name: Brick 2 x 2
*
3003 Brick 2 x 2
Parts: Brick {Trans-Red}
vs

Part No: 3003old Name: Brick 2 x 2 without Inside Supports
*
3003old Brick 2 x 2 without Inside Supports
Parts: Brick {Red}

Red is an example but this argument applies to all the transparent colors including
clear.

Only logical answer is because 3003old aren’t really made anymore.
The real 3003old stopped being made in the mid eighties.

The transparent colors, although similar in mold to the 3003old, are in fact
new bricks.
In my opinion, all the transparent colors, except the trans-clear should be listed
under 3003.

Just my 2 cents

Maxx

Ok Maxx, thanks for the good info and the nice pic of those vintage bricks too.
Your answer makes good sense to me also and I can understand why any change to
the catalog would be unwarranted at this time.

Good points, keep an eye on it though. So long as they only manufacture transparent
pieces with that trans-specific mould, 3003 should be fine as theres no alternate
trans mould so confusion should be low, but I understand the complaint from a
technically correct stance.

Red is an example but this argument applies to all the transparent colors including
clear.

Initially, all 2x2 bricks were made without internal supports.
Later, the molds for ABS-bricks were changed to include supports but molds for
the transparent plastics were not.

The "old" in the part number is misguiding.
Using a 3003a and 3003b version might have been better.
