I have noted a significant color variation in the basic red, both in parts purchased
via Bricklink and in the Ducati set 42107.

So far it has only occurred, to my limited knowledge, in the connector 22961,
which is often not visible on a completed model.

Has anyone noted a variation in more significant parts?

These days, there are pretty much color variations in all colors and all parts.
LEGO used to buy premixed colored ABS pellets as their raw material, and the
suppliers were pretty darn good about color control. So the pieces LEGO produced
were fairly good when it came to minimizing color variation. In modern times,
LEGO now mixes its own colors by combining dye pellets into natural ABS pellets
at their plants, and the results are far less than ideal many times. It is what
it is. You will find no shortage of complaints about color consistency these
days.

I’m not sure it’s because TLG is now using dye pellets.  I think it has more
to do with TLG using several suppliers for them (so as not to be stuck with only
one).
