hello,

I was wondering what your thought would be on buying 200 pounds of legos. They
want 1,200 for it and it is unsorted. WHat do you think the return would be just
on the parts sold individually by piece? I don't wanna waste my time sorting
to only make a minimal amount.

Thanks, NGbrick

It depends drastically on the condition of the LEGO, and the presence of rare
parts and minifigs. However, I don't believe you will ever make more than
'a minimal amount' once you account for the shear amount of time it takes
to sort, list, and sell used LEGO. It's more of a way to sustain a hobby
than an actual profession.

In general, $6 a pound is a pretty good deal.

See this thread from yesterday about cost for buying: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1302823

Seems like that price is in range depending on the quality of the lot.
The return you get is highly dependent on the composition of your store and your
prices, but can be worth the time if done right.

I will warn you that sorting out used pieces especially in a lot that size is
no small task and hugely time consuming. Good luck!

I think you could have a deal there, assuming you don't much Megablocks or
other clone bricks mixed in with the real stuff. Are they going to accept PayPal
? Do you have plenty of photos to examine ? How much/far is shipping ?

There would be no shipping, in 4 giant cardboard boxes with top pictures which
seem to be mostly torn apart sets, seems to be 99% lego. Minifigures mixed in
I have no idea. I am guessing there would be some as it looks like a collection
but I don't know for sure.

I have learned to keep my buys to 40lbs or under. Anything over that is a nightmare
(keep in mind I'm putting sets back together)

Also, $1200 is way to much IMO. I say $800. Max

Time is money.

My guess without knowing anything else about this, is that this is a bunch of
extra bulk that a reseller has already taken all the figs and valuable parts
out of. 200 pounds is generally more than a random family would have. 200 pounds
= someone who knows what they’re doing.

The largest “natural” collections that I’ve ever bought are ~60 pounds.

The last time I sold 200 pounds I think I took $550 for it. I have another 150
pounds now that you could have for $500 😀

Very true.
