I have been trying to see the reason why a 1x1 spacer/pin joiner has become a
liftarm, it is not an arm and it does not lift. Perhaps some one can enlighten
me, James.

Due to the similarity with longer parts. See here

It is the natural evolution when a longer length n liftarm loses 1 hole,
2 holes, n-1 holes.

"natural evolution" of a molded part? That's nonsense. The part now has a
description that doesn't match the part or the function of the part.

How about, this part is the natural evolution of a 1x1 brick that had a hole
added? It evolved due to pressure from predators such as the ubiquitous black
technic pins.

Basically someone with power and an unpopular opinion finally got their way either
through annoying other catmins or sneaking the change in

Personally, I cannot see the relationship with a 1x1 brick that you have suggested,
it looks nothing like one. I can see the relationship with a liftarm though.
If you cut from the middle of one hole to the next in a 5L liftarm, you get
a 4L liftarm. Do it again and again and again, you get a 3L, a 2L then a 1L.

I will now show that the technic spacer with pin hole is a liftarm by using a
proof by induction....
