When searching the catalogue, is there a way to include items that have had their
names changed? Old BL order emails include names but not part/fig numbers. If
you want to search for a part/fig that has had its name changed it can make it
difficult to find.

AFAIK, there is no way to search through old names like there is for old numbers.
But there is https://www.bricklink.com/catalogLogs.asp
with a.o. the Item Name Change log at https://www.bricklink.com/catalogReqList.asp?viewYear=&viewMonth=&viewGeDate=&q=&viewStatus=1&itemType=&viewAction=N
which theoretically you could search through per page of 50 items, next page,
search again, etc.

Best solution is use Google search, for example it found "Wyplash - Vertical
