These changes were made in 2008 by Russell (viejos) but were reverted in 2010:

Unfortunately the forum postings from that time are not available anymore but
I guess there must have been a good reason to change the quantities back to 9,
19 and 10, respectively. Therefore I'm not inclined to accept your requests

What would be super useful at this point is a high quality scan of the instructions
or a sealed set (even better). There are two instances where a long beam (1 x
6 or 1 x 8) is actually a shorter brick with a 1 x 1 on each end. It doesn't
make sense unless one thinks that with the limited resources at the time, these
unusual splits where for decoration purposes.

I believe the lines are clear when enlarged and this is a quirky thing about
instructions from this era. It happens elsewhere too (see image from 1575-1).

It does seem the submitter is correct from the instructions available online,
which are not of very high quality but do appear to show lines at the ends of
the long beams.
