I was mumbling why, if necessary, that holed sprue was on the upper face (and
not under, or back, or less visible)
Does that hole have any use, mmh, in the past?

I believe it’s more that the old mould didn’t have that sprue mark and BL wants
to separate production periods for this part, as for 3001/3001old and a few other
exceptions to the “functional difference” rule.
