I just received an email with a coupon from a UK store. Okay, thank you. But
then I read the bottom portion which states,

"Paypal fees can be avoided by paying as "friends & family" & orders can be shipped
in multiple parcels to keep the value of each parcel below any thresholds required."

I know this violates Paypal's TOS in the US, question is, is this allowed
in other countries? Of course, the buyer would have no protections. Seems unethical
to me.

So the seller is trying to get PayPal fee advantage, at no savings to the buyer,
and a likely loss of protection. Seems like a bad deal to me.

IIRC, passing along PP fees is valid in some countries, but fee avoidance is
quite a different animal. If crossing an international border, that may push
the currency translation fees onto the buyer.

It looks like I may have received a coupon from the same seller as their terms
match what you are saying about paypal though I did'nt notice the multiple
parcel bit

Either way adding paypal fees is not allowed in the UK either and so since the
seller is responsible for the fees if they are going to offer a friends and family
option it should read somthing more like this:-

"If your happy to pay with friends and family this will allow me pass any fee
savings onto yourself"

However given the seller also says this:-

"I always have proof of posting but can not be held responsible for any order
once it's left my possession."

If they are not going to take resposibility for your order once its left them
then its very clear to me that you almost cetainly won't want to be paying
via friends and family! Paypal protection all the way on sellers that state things
like this because insurance or not they are responsible for making sure they
do right by their customer

So, does this violate BL's rules in any way and if yes, should it be reported?
Or does BL choose not to get involved in this practice?

I do not believe you can pay onsite combined with Friends & Family. So, not only
does it seem to be shifting PP fees to the buyer, but it also seems to be VAT
avoidance. My take is that using Friends & Family is going to be a TOS violation,
but for indirect reasons.

Anyone else have a thought about this ?

I'm excited to know that this seller considers me to be a member of his family
and a friend. Accordingly, I am expecting to be invited for Christmas dinner.
