My antivirus keeps giving me a warning when I search for things on bricklink.
Any idea what this is about?

It’s some (stupid) blacklisting.

For whatever reason, static.bricklink.com, which serves static (that is, non
dynamic) content, has been put on a blacklist that Avast uses.

Now, to know which blacklist and how to tell them it’s an error….

Thank you for the details, at least now we know the URL Avast is mad about.

It's this one: https://static.bricklink.com/renovate/js/build/cookieNotice.build.js

TL;DR: You're fine, you can disregard this particular alert.

At a glance it looks like a regular minified Javascript library file. The only
suspect thing is that it provides a base64 encoded data: URL as a SourceMap which
is used to debug the library even when it is minified.

This is probably what tripped Avast as base64 encoded data is routinely used
in malware to conceal a harmful payload, but I don't think it was warranted
in this case.

I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with Avast so I don't know how to silence
this specific alert permanently. As a personal policy I don't trust third-party
antivirus software on Windows, Windows 10 already has Windows Defender that does
the same job, and layering antivirus software is never a good idea.

So my suggestion would be to uninstall Avast but it really is up to you.

Needs to be de-listed on avast side, they have a form to report but you need
to be an avast user which im not to be able to report on your behalf.
https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php

If its really bugging you then couple of options you should have if memory serves
correct a disable for 10 mins, 1 hour, etc on the right click menu of the tiny
icon near your clock so if you have a lot of bricklink-ing to do then switch
it off for a bit.

You could try a local whitelist but this may not override it but worth a shot.
Rough instructions pulled from a site
Go to the “real-time shields” tab to display all modules available in this
interface.
Click on the “web shield” option and then on the “expert settings” tab to open
the settings window for web shield.
In this settings window, click on the “exclusions” tab found on the left.
Click the “ enter address ” button found in the “URLs to exclude” tab to insert
the website URL address of those websites that you want to put in the exclusions
list.
Click the add button after every website URL you have entered.
After adding all the sites to the list, click the “ok” button to save this updates
list.

Other than that as someone else has said you get windows defender built in to
windows 10 so you don't need another product. And have a look yourself at
the latest tests for the types of AV out there and you will see they are on par
with each other in terms of protection with microsoft tending to come out slightly
ahead at times in the home user market.

Right thats enough tech talk back to the lego!

It looks like at least one URL from the domain static.bricklink.com was blacklisted
by Avast but the screen you provided doesn't provide further information
about which one or why.

Has anyone reported this to the help desk yet? This is bad - having issues here,
too - got Google to load with putting BrickLink in as safe in Avast, but Firefox
is still booting it, regardless.

I don't know if it has been reported.

I have the same problem with AVG,but I think that they are related.

More inexperience and unprofessionalism showing. Obviously they didn't sandbox
this thing before they put it out live, as usual. I wonder how many buyers are
fed up and going away because their antivirus found a problem too.

It's circling the drain. Oh, yeah, but, we have XP!!!

Someone needs to lose their job over this kind of crap. It's horrible, it's
bring the sight down and it's making the site unusable and they need to get
somebody in there who knows what they're doing!

Heck, why stop there, I think BrickLink started the whole global warming mess
we're in right now and don't even get me started on how BL introduced
the covid 19.

Although I admire your directness and passion for the site’s wellbeing, I don’t
quite see it as you do. As a fellow old-timer here, I feel your frustration nonetheless.
Personally, I fight the urge to contrast today’s BL to that of yesteryears, with
the idea of progress, in all of it's forms.

I’ve long ago learned to close-down our store just prior to any of the site’s
updates beyond their daily maintenance, only to reopen a day or two later carefully
and after the dust has settled. Which includes clearing browser cookies, rebooting
the browser used and devise. Having done so this as in all other times, I’ve
not experienced any of the posted issues since the update.

I have the same general attitude as a consumer: never buy the latest model anything
complex, phone, car, computer, etc. Assuming the consumer market will always
be "the sandbox" Saves me some frustrating over the silly things, so that
I can focus on being frustrated over the more important things in my life, such
as family, friends, job, service to others, etc

But keep your posted thoughts coming Donna, I enjoy them all.

I have Avast on my Mac. I started getting this message this evening. I just added
https://www.bricklink.com to the excluded list and it stopped. I never saw it
again on any of the BrickLink pages I went to.

We have good news to share:

Sometime around May 18, Avast antivirus software began flagging BrickLink as
a problem site, but this of course was a false positive. We contacted Avast about
this yesterday and the issue was reported as being resolved early this morning.

Thank you for your patience.

Thank you for solving this.

Would it be possible for BrickLink to let us know that they are working on reported
issues, it doesn't have to be a press release but just a short reply on topics
is fine, that would really be appreciated by everyone.

Kind regards,
Erwin
