Dear BrickLink members,

Today we’d like to do something very special, and that is to introduce to you
the newest member of our BrickLink staff, Tanja Friberg. Tanja steps into the
new role of Community Engagement Director that was promised last December in
the “Looking to the future of BrickLink” video:

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/community/newsview.page?msgid=1236889

Tanja comes to us directly from Billund, Denmark, where she has worked for the
LEGO Group for 9 years, for the first 3 ½ years as part of LEGO IT, heading up
Project Management and for the past 5 ½ years in AFOL Engagement heading up among
other things, the LEGO® Ambassador Network (LAN) and the LEGO® Certified Professional
program. LEGO fans have had a chance to meet Tanja face to face at conventions
and various other fan events around the world.

More recently, Tanja has been a part of the core group of LEGO Group employees
who interfaced with BrickLink staff during the AFOL Designer Program, and since
then she has been instrumental in onboarding the BrickLink unit into the LEGO
Group and developing our leadership potential.

We’ll let Tanja herself say a few more words about herself, and then open up
the thread for questions. But before then, to end this official announcement,
I’d like to say that today is one of only a handful of red-letter days for BrickLink,
where BrickLink history can be seen to have shifted dramatically.

We’ve had other community-type positions in the past, but nothing like this where
a full-time employee at this level is dedicated solely to our relationship with
the community. And we’ve never had someone straight from the halls of Billund
move halfway around the world to come and take a seat among us. We’re very, very
excited about this new development, and we trust that you will be too!

Please join me in welcoming Tanja!

Dear all,

I hope that you and your families are all ok during this awful pandemic we are
currently facing together! As you can read in the kind introduction from Russel,
my primary focus on BrickLink will be on the engagement we do with all of you
in the various parts of BrickLink.

It is a primary focus for BrickLink to increase transparency to what we are doing
through communication and collaboration, and even though we are well aware of
some of the areas that need improvement, the first stage of deciding how to collaborate
and what to focus on, is for us to understand everything that is going on, good
and bad.
I know that there is tons of input in the forums and although that is being read,
I would really appreciate a fresh start, ensuring that the things we focus on
are in fact still issues to address. In order to do this, we will be sharing
a survey with you in a couple of days, this is your chance to make your voice
heard and I encourage all of you to take the time to share candid and constructive
feedback in the survey!

A bit about me

I live in Denmark until this summer where I will relocate to California with
my husband and our 3 girls. I have a huge passion for the AFOL community, and
for working with you to inspire and promote creative expression with LEGO bricks
through your hobbies and businesses!

My history with BrickLink goes back quite a number of years. My most memorable
moment was when working on the AFOL Designer Program, I was lucky to have the
opportunity to meet Eliska, Dan Jezek’s mother, in Billund, this was a great
honor to me! Being the wonderful women she is, Eliska took the time to tell me
a bit about the history of BrickLink, and she confirmed to me that BrickLink
is all about enabling creative expression through the passion for the LEGO brick,
then and now.

I feel blessed to have been given this opportunity and I can’t wait to get into
the details of all that is BrickLink. I look forward to getting to know you much
better in the coming months and to hopefully meet many of you at the Fan conventions
around the world!

Take care,
Tanja

Take care,
Tanja

Congrats, Tanja! As a former Ambassador of OCLUG, I can't think of a better
person to fill this role! Your passion and engagement are what the BL community
needs.

And when you get settled in California (and when COVID restrictions end), I'm
sure the current OCLUG Ambassador, Thomas, would be thrilled to have your family
pop in to a LUG meeting. The local AFOLs are super friendly, and a great bunch
of folks.

Thank you so much for the very kind words Jason, I really appreciate it! I would

Take care,
Tanja

Good luck in your new role Tanja.

Also wishing you all the best with your move across the pond. Having moved myself
from The Netherlands to the USA less than 3 yrs ago, I know it can be rough at
the start, but I wish you all the best and luck you need.

Welcome, Tanja!!

In Administrative, Admin_Russell writes:

Please join me in welcoming Tanja!

excited about this new development, and we trust that you will be too!

Welcome, Tanja!

My only question at the moment, will you be hiring a team? You're about to

But seriously, this is excellent news!

It’s a proactive managerial position whose clear goal is to incentivize a paradigm
shift in enabling next generation digital member-centric integrative alignment
of a convergent and innovative solution to a globalized and encompassing strategic
communication in order to resonate with the diversity of boomers and generation
X members while preparing the way for organic growth to amplify future millenials’
participation.

Well, I think you got every corporate buzzword in there except "synergy".

Welcome!

the “Looking to the future of BrickLink” video:

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/community/newsview.page?msgid=1236889

I already think you are doing an awesome job because I've been provided vital
information about site changes and someone reached out for feedback (which has
never happened in the past). Two important things that a company must do in order
to stay connected with their users have already begun with your arrival, so kudos
to you with hopes for additional communication in the future.

Hi Tanja and welcome.

Since no one has asked, what does a community engagement staff member do?

Will they be communicating to the community that going forward all invoices will
have the following text prepended to them?

"For BrickLink Order #xxxxx, you must pay on site using the PAY NOW button on
the order details page. Any payments made using other methods will result in
an improper transaction because tax is not paid to the state. This message overrules
any other payment instructions mentioned below if any.

To submit payment for this order, click on the PAY NOW button on the order details
page.

Order details page: https://www.bricklink.com/orderDetail.asp?ID=xxxxxx"

I was asked by a buyer why I put this at the top of my invoice, I had no idea
it was there, until that query.

It sounds a bit harsh in my opinion. Not at all the image I want to project
to my customers.

I sincerely hope that Tanja will bring some much needed professionalism to the
Bricklink team.

Sincerely,
Macebobo

That was to point out that the question has already been asked but didn’t get
an official response (while it was obviously seen as a follow-up did get a reply).
Maybe my attempt at humour didn’t help… it rarely does… but I can’t help attempting

Hi Macebobo,

I am sorry, I missed the question earlier to what it is that I do as a community
engagement director (as pointed out by SylvainLS) and although I could write
a couple of pages on that, I will answer briefly and then I hope to be able to
demonstrate in future actions instead

As a community engagement director I am responsible for the strategic direction
of the engagement with the community, how we collaborate, how we communicate,
etc. So the example that you shared below is in fact a very good one, we will
have a look at that along with many other things, thank you for bringing it to
my attention.

Tanja,

Wow, a quick response from an official Bricklink employee. This in and
of itself, is a very welcome change and needs to happen more here on the forum
and especially in customer service.

Thank you for taking the time to respond and I look forward to having more positive
experiences like this one.

Sincerely,
Macebobo (AKA John)

Sincerely,
Macebobo

Just tried emailing me some invoices with US Taxes and all came with this text
on top.

I have a good custom template and this text seems not too professional written
for starting an email "invoice".

Stellar,

It is not professional at all, and for some new members, this is the first e-mail
they will get from a seller. It is brash, demanding, and rude. I would avoid
a seller who stated out an e-mail like that.

I have added two notes to my invoices now:

1) [MacroTAG-ORDERSALESTAX-EQ:Y] Please note, I do not add any sales tax, this
is added by BrickLink. [EndMacroTAD-ORDERSALESTAX-EQ:Y]

2) (Right at the top of the invoice) The above text was added by Bricklink, not
MacsBricks, we will never talk to or treat you like that.

Agree. That is a horrific piece of text. Sounds like it was written by someone
with no experience in sales or customer service. It is a very unfortunate direction.
In fact, it's probably unnecessary to include this statement on the invoice.
If it is simply to satisfy the lawyers, then such a statement could go into the
TOS or someplace else that doesn't reflect negatively on people's stores.
