I am developing BLS Manager, a Windows application to manage orders (and inventory),
it already has many features that BL doesn't have, and I keep improving it
with feedback from my awesome user base.

I'd really like to know why you aren't using it!

Is this because:

- I don't have a Windows PC.
- I use other software/web services.
- The installation is too complicated.
- The application is too complicated.
- It is not in my native language.
- Missing features, like...
- Not stable, or buggy.
- I have no need for 3rd party apps.
- I tried it, but it isn't for me because...
- I didn't know about it!
- Other...

Feel free, to be honest!

Hello Erwin,

I've been working with your program for a while. We are currently trying
to enable paperless pecking with a Surface Tablet.

Your program is very useful for this, although there might be a pick mode for
tablets.

I'm looking for an even simpler version for pecking with a tablet.

But I have one question. Is there a possibility to integrate Brickowl there?

best regards
Florian

Hello Florian,

That is awesome!

"Your program is very useful for this, although there might be a pick mode for
tablets."

There are multiple settings (large tabs, row select on checkbox only, drag scrolling,
and zoom) for tablet users to make picking easier but I can always try to improve
it. Feel free to make suggestions.

"I'm looking for an even simpler version for pecking with a tablet."

I am working on a new renderer that lets you customize the Order View even more,
but this is still early in development. With the current version, you can make
multiple layouts and remove all the items and columns you do not need. How simple
do you want it to be? Maybe I can add that.

"Is there a possibility to integrate Brickowl there?"

Yes, this is possible and it is on my wish list but don't expect it soon.

Kind regards,
ErwinNL

Thank you! Apparently, there are many non-Windows users on BrickLink (I did also
ask on Discord). I'd really like to make it a multi-OS application but I
can't port the interface yet, hopefully, that will be possible in the future.

I'm not your target subscription archetype. Knowing this, I've purposely
not replied to any of your posts regarding this project till now. It would be
wrong to so having no skin in the game, I thought.

That said, let me offer you the honesty you've asked for: I admire your idea...
More than that, I admire the drive you seem to have in making it as successful
as possible. In fact, I thought of asking a few times, if you have the needed
backing

Thank you popsicle, I don't mind answering this, The current development
version of the app is free to test for everyone. Some of the costs are supported
by patrons (Thx!) and income from my store, however, this is a full-time job
to develop and I don't earn enough to make it currently worth it. In the
end, the app has to generate income in some way, maybe using a subscription model,
maybe there will be a free version, with licensed modules, I honestly don't
know yet.

I am currently in the fortunate position that I can do this full-time for at
least the next two years, probably longer if there is a growing user base. I
develop most of the components so that I can reuse them for other projects, just
in case this one doesn't work out, but I really hope it does because I am
enjoying working on it and the community and LEGO are awesome.

I have the means, time, and drive to see this project's first version come
to fruition.

Everyone's feedback is welcome, even when you don't use the app, your
experience and input are worth a lot!

I actually had never heard of it before and just downloaded. Shame that you have
to see one random message to be aknowledge of the great new tools that users
develop. So far, I really like it. I like bricklink's interface because it's
quite condensed, so this is even better.

My main points are, I can't use it on brickowl and can't use it on a
Mac. I have a main PC where I do all the work, but for picking we have two macbook
airs.

Why did some purged/filed orders appear when I opened it up?

I think what I am liking the most at first glance is the ease to see and interact
with message chains on orders.

Thank you brikomania,

BrickOwl is on my wish list but I don't know when that will be added, same
for Mac support, I currently can't make it multiplatform because of the graphical
user interface I use, we did discuss adding a webapp for Android and Mac to allow
for picking from tablets.

All orders are downloaded but purged orders contain no items, sadly. BLS Manager
does not purge orders so any orders that you download before BL purges them are
forever accessible in the app. Filed orders can be shown or hidden in the app
(button right from search).

I am currently working on DriveThru, invoices, and messages, this will make it
even easier to work with mails and contact buyers (incl multiple templates).

Kind regards,
Erwin

Sorry, no thanks. Because I read some of the privacy policy. Reads like a laundry

Thanks for your reply CPgolfaddict, I understand your concerns, I did go over
all legal bases and except for Vital interests (is this processing needed to
protect someone's life?) I don't think I can remove any of them, but
I am not a lawyer and need to consult one before making changes.

https://community.jisc.ac.uk/blogs/regulatory-developments/article/gdpr-whats-your-justification

My privacy policy does not only cover BLS Manager and BLS Backup but all my companies
activities and legal obligations.

----

For BLS Manager and BLS Backup specific, the only data that is collected is your
IP address and source when you download the application and your IP address when
BLS Manager accesses the InSpace Software API. Those are to identify the connection,
generate statistics, and for network security.

BLS Manager does not collect and share any of your customer's data, BrickLink
credentials, or usage data. Your BrickLink credentials are encrypted and stored
on your local hard drive, customer data is stored locally in the SQL database.
No usage data is collected without permission (not at all currently).

In the future BLS Manager will need some kind of licensing system, I might need
to ask people to create an account for that (login credentials).

I do take data safety seriously, not only seller's data (yours) but also
your customer's data. I recently added a feature to redact buyer's personal
data in the app to give sellers the ability to share screenshots without leaking
any data.

Any data with identifying information, including screenshots and logs, that I
don't need for the app to function, or for legal reasons, are deleted or
redacted as soon as possible.

Feel free to contact me if there are any questions.

Thanks for the reply. If there is less PI involved in using the downloaded SW
vs. the website, then you should highlight that! You should be able to have
sections in a single privacy policy covering different components. e.g. BLSBackup
vs. BLSManager vs. your website.

I'm intrigued by the possibilities. But in general I'm not an early adopter,
or alpha/beta user for anything personal. I usually wait for more fully formed
SW.

What are your plans for licensing BLSManager?

I honestly don't know yet, maybe a subscription model, maybe there will be
a free version, with licensed modules. In the end, it does need to generate income
because as I mentioned in other posts, this is a full-time job to make.

I use your other program, BLS Backup, and I love it. Only reason I haven't
tried BLS Manager yet is that it is a development version so I hesitated.

Thank you zorbanj, that means a lot. BLS Manager won't be finished for a
long while, this project is huge^2, but it is far along enough to be useful,
I have quite a few sellers using it daily now, and yes, there are issues but
I try to patch them as quickly as possible especially when they are breaking
the app.

I use it, it's a great tool for fulfilling many orders at the same time.
Like others, have mentioned, Brickowl compatibility would be awesome. A couple
minor annoyances I have are:

1. I organize the packing lists by remarks. My remarks tell me the name of the
container the piece is in, and I label them like this: AA-1 AA-2 etc. While
your program does organize the remarks alphebetically, it won't do it correctly
numerically. Bricklink has the same problem while brickowl doesn't. For example,
brickowl will organize like such: AA-1, AA-2, AA-10. But bricklink and your program
will do: AA-1, AA-10, AA-2. Just a slight annoyance.

2. While I love the timer when packing so I know how fast I'm going, it seems
to get messed up after it reaches an hour. I'll finish in a couple hours,
but it'll say it took 6 hours or such. So I can't really depend on it
if I take longer than an hour.

Anyhow, thank you for making the program!

Hello firestar246, Thank you! It is really nice to hear that the program is useful
for you and other sellers.

About your minor annoyances, I will try to fix both issues, the first one should
be easy but I am not sure what is happening with the timer.

Feel free to report issues like this, I will try to solve them.

I fixed this today, let me know if there are any issues.

Example order:

0
0000004
0004
4
123
c0, c300, a10
a1000
AA-1
AA-2
AA-10
abcd
b25
b100
b100-2
b100-b
c200, c0
c400, c0
c435, c1
c2
c2
c100, c3
c4
c200, c4

If you have multiple locations in the remarks (like I do), it picks the lowest
value. I might swap the 0000004 and 0004 tomorrow, minor tweaks.

I haven't had time to look at the timer yet, will be this week.

I'd like to try it but honestly I didn't want to take the time to figure
out all the dependencies needed to be installed (.NET, etc). Can't all that
be included into the installer?

I'll gladly give it a try if I can run an installer, fiddle my thumbs a few
minutes, and then launch the program.

Hello, ralphs_bricks,

.NET is included in any up-to-date Windows installation, and I even think you
will be prompted when you don't have the correct version (not 100% sure).

---

You do need to download and install MSSQL separately.

Download: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=866658

Instructions: https://inspacesoftware.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2/topic/ca86119e-5aab-430a-8ae5-8c51d79bd1e9/article/262145

start - Choose Basic - next - next - next...

----

After that, you can install BLS Manager.

start Installer - next - next - next...
start BLS Manager - next - connect to the database, - connect to BrickLink.

---

I made a YouTube video on both steps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8JtmyFEa9s

I'd like to have the database installation included in the initial setup
but I simply haven't had time for it yet.

Thanks for your reply!

Today I added a SQL Server downloader & installer to the application, no need
anymore to download it separately. Now, I need to make a new YouTube video, oh
well...

1. I don't have a Windows PC
2. I would need 'the owl from the other side' also integrated.

Thanks for this kind of development! Love seeing these initiatives.

Thank you for the reply, feedback like yours gives me insight into what people
want in the application. Owl support is on my list but I do not expect to get
to it anytime soon, my todo-list is enormous.

I really enjoy working on it, the response is awesome and it is really fun to
see how other sellers use it to be more productive.

Hello,

I haven't written for a while, so now for my feedback.

We have been using the program for a while now, the connection to DHL worked
perfectly for shipping.

We are currently using a Surface Tablet to process the orders directly.

I wanted to ask what the introduction of BrickOwl in the BLS Manager does?

Have you ever thought about that or is something already known what could start
there?

Best regards
Florian

Hello Florian,

Thank you for your reply and for using BLS Manager!

I would really like to add BrickOwl support but I don't know when I am going
to do this, I am currently working on inventory management and still have work
to do on orders, messages, and invoicing.

Eventually, I will get to it

Kind regards,
Erwin
