| Hello,
Does anyone know when a scala piece goes in the scala category
for example a piece like this
is listed in the dish category, however, has scala in its name. I understand
that this piece does come in other sets as well. Is that the reason this piece
doesn't come in the scala category?
Any help would be appreciated

Historically always was a scala piece. I think it used to in the scala section,
in fact in sure of it, more catalogue movement.

One of the best things about Lego parts is that they can be used for anything,
so we need to categorice them the best we can do. Putting parts only in a thematic
category would break the strength of the Bricklink catalog.

Form above function, so:
- if the part has specific Scala connectivity that does not connect to normal
bricks,
- if the part connects only to Scala parts, (e.g. clothing for Scala figures),
it belongs in the Scala category.
But if it may have come in a Scala set but connects in standard ways or could
be used in other contexts, it should be put in the appropriate form-based category
like all other parts.

The process used for categorizing parts is explained in detail on this page:
