In 1969, the set

Set No: 103 Name: 4.5V Motor Set with Rubber Tracks
*
103-1 (Inv) 4.5V Motor Set with Rubber Tracks
18 Parts, 1 Book, 1969
Sets: Universal Building Set: Supplemental
was released. I think TLG was just generous and added these extra parts along
with instructions of set 103-1 and the wire

Part No: x466c96blue Name: Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 96 Studs Long with 2 Blue Electric, Connector, 2-Way Male Rounded Narrow Type 2 with Hollow Pins (x466c96 / bb0236ac01)
*
x466c96blue (Inv) Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 96 Studs Long with 2 Blue Electric, Connector, 2-Way Male Rounded Narrow Type 2 with Hollow Pins (x466c96 / bb0236ac01)
Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector
to all other sets (from 1969-71) that included 4.5v motor, to give kids more
options for their builds.
For few trains, we have found solid proof.

Set No: 122 Name: Loco and Tender
*
122-1 (Inv) Loco and Tender
96 Parts, 1969
Sets: Train: 4.5V
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=234097

Set No: 138 Name: Electronic Train
*
138-1 (Inv) Electronic Train
113 Parts, 1969
Sets: Train: 4.5V
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=235352

Set No: 120 Name: Complete Freight Train Set with Tipper Trucks
*
120-1 (Inv) Complete Freight Train Set with Tipper Trucks
169 Parts, 1969
Sets: Train: 4.5V
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=280397

I think TLG stopped this practice in 1972 but I am not sure because I have not
seen many used/new copies of 180-1.

I bought a like-new copy of 119 with a very good box, extra instructions for
supplemental sets from Japan! The parts were in like new condition and look like
the set was only built only once. More about this
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=280146

My copy came with these extra parts too.

I have not seen any new 116-1 but I should have photos of used copies with these
extra parts.

to all other sets (from 1969-71) that included 4.5v motor, to give kids more

Imo the the 'instruction' of set 103-1 was added in the box of all trains
that came with 103 motor and battery box. It shows how to use it. It's not
a building instruction with the number of the set printed on it.

There's proof indeed for the sets above, but not for sets 116 and 119.
In catalogues of 1971 set 120-1 actually shows these parts, but set 116 does
not and I can't find any for set 119 either.

Diana

The recent requests that are rejected are all correct. (not the 1x2 plate that
I did not see on the front of 116)
For most of them, there is almost no chance any evidence may show up somewhere.
For example, for 116-1, only a copy produced in 1969 may have those extra parts
for motor

Part No: bb0006  Name: Electric, Motor 4.5V Type B 12 x 4 x 3 1/3 (Train)
*
bb0006 (Inv) Electric, Motor 4.5V Type B 12 x 4 x 3 1/3 (Train)
Parts: Electric, Motor
So we should hope to find a new 116 that is not from 1967, nor from 1968 but
from 1969.

You checked 10 copies of taxi car 605 and approved the request but there is no
way for me to prove how many used copies of one particular set I have checked
so far and how I got some conclusion and was convinced.
This reminds me the yellow cones

Part No: 3943b  Name: Cone 4 x 4 x 2 with Axle Hole
*
3943b Cone 4 x 4 x 2 with Axle Hole
Parts: Cone
that appeared only in later productions in 1982 and only in UK, France, Italy
and Germany but there were no way I could prove it and my endless submissions
of photos from used copies did not appear as of any value or proof.
Now, I think I have less time and energy. There are many many more things I know
they should be corrected or added, but they are harder to prove and even crazier
to believe.

This is not exactly right, see below

  For few trains, we have found solid proof.

I didn't see any images of your like-new copy of set 119 that actually proves
these parts were included in the set from origin.

I kept the box and the extra parts but sold the train and instructions to a collector
in the US. I can photos of what I have and even can request photos of the train
from the buyer. But photos do not reflect the quality of parts.

It would have been nice to have photo's of a like new boxed set that also
included instruction 103-1 and the parts you wanted to add.

My copy came with these extra parts too.

I have not seen any new 116-1 but I should have photos of used copies with these
extra parts.

I can't approve this request, based on a used set and a thought that TLG

So we should hope to find a new 116 that is not from 1967, nor from 1968 but
from 1969.

I have one boxed set myself. The contents is complete and in excellent condition.
Unfortunately I didn't photograph the contents of the set when I received
it and I keep all paperwork in maps (not in the boxes). But my excel sheet says
it came with the older variant instructions (which matches the contents) and
instruction 119-157.

You checked 10 copies of taxi car 605 and approved the request but there is no
way for me to prove how many used copies of one particular set I have checked
so far and how I got some conclusion and was convinced.

The approval of change request for this taxi was not based on images alone.

  This reminds me the yellow cones

Part No: 3943b  Name: Cone 4 x 4 x 2 with Axle Hole

3943b Cone 4 x 4 x 2 with Axle Hole

that appeared only in later productions in 1982 and only in UK, France, Italy
and Germany but there were no way I could prove it and my endless submissions
of photos from used copies did not appear as of any value or proof.

I don't know anything about requests for this part.

  Now, I think I have less time and energy. There are many many more things I know
they should be corrected or added, but they are harder to prove and even crazier
to believe.

I am very sorry you feel dissapointed. We surely appreciate all your contributions.
Some requests just need to have more proof then others. When one request needs
images to provide hard evidence, other requests can sometimes be approved with
images of used sets in combination with timeline of certain parts. It all depends
on the request, age of sets, parts and timeline we already have because of earlier
evidence. As for the requests I saw that you submitted, you already contributed
to these timelines. So please, no matter how hard it is to prove, or how crazy
to believe, any change request is welcome, when you are convinced an inventory
has to be changed.

Now back to 119/116 and 103:

I made a mistake earlier when writing about the instruction 103-1. My apology
for that.
I know this instruction came in other train sets with 103-1 motor and batterybox,
but so far I didn't see any evidence it also came in sets 116 and 119. Otherwise
I would have (partly) approved your requests.
This instruction does say however that some of the parts of set 103-1 are included
in the box. Which means indeed when instruction 103-1 was included, these parts
should have been in the box also (otherwise TLG would have made a mistake including
the 103-1 instruction). I am not sure about all the parts that you mentioned
though. Reading the instruction, these parts would be included:

Part No: x486a Name: Tread with 30 Treads Small Wedge-Shaped
*
x486a Tread with 30 Treads Small Wedge-Shaped
Parts: Wheel, Tire & Tread {Black}

Part No: 7039c01 Name: Wheel with 4 Studs and Axle with Black Tire Smooth - Small Solid (7039 / 132old)
*
7039c01 (Inv) Wheel with 4 Studs and Axle with Black Tire Smooth - Small Solid (7039 / 132old)
Parts: Wheel & Tire Assembly {Red}

It doesn't mention an extra wire, but it does mention:
The new x486a - which you must have already found in the box - will make playing
with LEGO even more fun........ The x486a must be mounted on the four studded
wheels, of which you have to remove the tires first.

So my thoughts at this moment are:
- the items above could be added, when we have evidence that instruction 103-1
was included and/or the items itself
- the wire could be added when we have evidence that also this wire was included
as extra part or alternate part

The instruction of set 103-1 is also in the Bricklink catalog as

In 1969, the set

*
103-1 (Inv) 4.5V Motor Set with Rubber Tracks
18 Parts, 1 Book, 1969

was released.

Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector
to all other sets (from 1969-71) that included 4.5v motor, to give kids more
options for their builds.

Imo the the 'instruction' of set 103-1 was added in the box of all trains
that came with 103 motor and battery box. It shows how to use it. It's not
a building instruction with the number of the set printed on it.

This is not exactly right, see below

  For few trains, we have found solid proof.

Set No: 122 Name: Loco and Tender
*
122-1 (Inv) Loco and Tender
96 Parts, 1969
Sets: Train: 4.5V
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=234097

Set No: 138 Name: Electronic Train
*
138-1 (Inv) Electronic Train
113 Parts, 1969
Sets: Train: 4.5V

Set No: 120 Name: Complete Freight Train Set with Tipper Trucks
*
120-1 (Inv) Complete Freight Train Set with Tipper Trucks
169 Parts, 1969
Sets: Train: 4.5V
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=280397

There's proof indeed for the sets above, but not for sets 116 and 119.
In catalogues of 1971 set 120-1 actually shows these parts, but set 116 does
not and I can't find any for set 119 either.

I didn't see any images of your like-new copy of set 119 that actually proves
these parts were included in the set from origin.

I kept the box and the extra parts but sold the train and instructions to a collector
in the US. I can photos of what I have and even can request photos of the train
from the buyer. But photos do not reflect the quality of parts.

It would have been nice to have photo's of a like new boxed set that also
included instruction 103-1 and the parts you wanted to add.

My copy came with these extra parts too.

I have not seen any new 116-1 but I should have photos of used copies with these
extra parts.

I can't approve this request, based on a used set and a thought that TLG
was generous.
If you ever find solid proof, you can add a new request.

So we should hope to find a new 116 that is not from 1967, nor from 1968 but

Parts: Wheel, Tire & Tread {Black}

Part No: 7039c01 Name: Wheel with 4 Studs and Axle with Black Tire Smooth - Small Solid (7039 / 132old)
*
7039c01 (Inv) Wheel with 4 Studs and Axle with Black Tire Smooth - Small Solid (7039 / 132old)
Parts: Wheel & Tire Assembly {Red}

It doesn't mention an extra wire, but it does mention:
The new x486a - which you must have already found in the box - will make playing
with LEGO even more fun........ The x486a must be mounted on the four studded
wheels, of which you have to remove the tires first.

I have multiple copies of this instructions but I did not find where it mentions
this.
I also noticed there are two versions (and each in different languages).

Book No: 97040nl Name: Alles over de nieuwe Lego-batterijmotor 4.5V (97040-Ho)
*
97040nl Alles over de nieuwe Lego-batterijmotor 4.5V (97040-Ho)
Books: Informational Book: Train: 4.5V
in many languages

Diana

It is an informational book which is at the same time the instructions for set
103-1. Is this the proper way to handle this paper work?
I think it is better all appear as the instructions of set 103-1 with some extra
notes.

I have the Japanese version too.
I found out that this set appears in the Canadian catalog

Catalog No: c71ca Name: 1971 Large Canadian Samsonite
*
c71ca 1971 Large Canadian Samsonite
Catalogs: 1971: Samsonite
from 1971. I think there should be a English-French version of instructions 103-1
for the Canadian market.

Like you said, there are different versions. They appear in other sets also.
It's not (just) a building instruction, it provides information in a lot
of languages.
So it definately has to be kept in the catalog as Informational book.

With 'this set' in the Canadian catalogue c71ca, you mean set 103-1 /
119-1 or both?
Can you add images of the contents of this Canadian Catalogue?!

It is not possible to connect instructions entries with any other entries. The
only thing we could do is to ask all sellers who have the instructions for sale
to remove them and list them under the book entry instead. Then the instructions
entry could be removed and the books could be added to the inventory. But messaging
all sellers takes some time and there is no guarantee all of them will follow
our request.

If this is the necessary step and the only solution, we can submit a removal
request for these entries. Once they are removed, we can remove the entry and
add the instructions as a book to the set 103 (and similarly for others)

Comments from Submitter:
Appeared in later versions together with instructions of 103-1

Please provide proof of these extra parts.

Diana

Imo the the 'instruction' of set 103-1 was added in the box of all trains
that came with 103 motor and battery box. It shows how to use it. It's not
a building instruction with the number of the set printed on it.

This is not exactly right, see below

  For few trains, we have found solid proof.

Set No: 122 Name: Loco and Tender
*
122-1 (Inv) Loco and Tender
96 Parts, 1969
Sets: Train: 4.5V
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=234097

Set No: 138 Name: Electronic Train
*
138-1 (Inv) Electronic Train
113 Parts, 1969
Sets: Train: 4.5V
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=235352

Set No: 120 Name: Complete Freight Train Set with Tipper Trucks
*
120-1 (Inv) Complete Freight Train Set with Tipper Trucks
169 Parts, 1969
Sets: Train: 4.5V
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=280397

There's proof indeed for the sets above, but not for sets 116 and 119.
In catalogues of 1971 set 120-1 actually shows these parts, but set 116 does
not and I can't find any for set 119 either.

I didn't see any images of your like-new copy of set 119 that actually proves
these parts were included in the set from origin.

I kept the box and the extra parts but sold the train and instructions to a collector
in the US. I can photos of what I have and even can request photos of the train
from the buyer. But photos do not reflect the quality of parts.

It would have been nice to have photo's of a like new boxed set that also
included instruction 103-1 and the parts you wanted to add.

These are photos of the listing.
I still have the box and instructions and extra parts.

Could you please add images of the contents of the Japanese catalogue and Japanese
'103' leaflet? Curious about the numbers also, but they will show if
you add images

not and I can't find any for set 119 either.

The photos of sets 116 and 119 in all the catalogs were just those taken when
the set was released. So the photos of 116 were those taken in 1967 (or lit December
1966) and those of 119 were taken in 1968. Then TLG just used the same photos
in all the upcoming catalogs. It has been almost always like that.

The part

Part No: x486a Name: Tread with 30 Treads Small Wedge-Shaped
*
x486a Tread with 30 Treads Small Wedge-Shaped
Parts: Wheel, Tire & Tread
was first produced in 1969 for sets such as

*
103-1 (Inv) 4.5V Motor Set with Rubber Tracks
18 Parts, 1 Book, 1969

So we could not expect to see these extra parts in the catalog of 1971. This
does not prove or disprove anything on its own.

My copy came with these extra parts too.

I have not seen any new 116-1 but I should have photos of used copies with these
extra parts.

I can't approve this request, based on a used set and a thought that TLG
was generous.
If you ever find solid proof, you can add a new request.

I agree with all you are saying off course. Unfortunately this indeed also means
that for this set we can't prove the parts were included or not included.
If only TLG would have made new images for the catalogues, then maybe we would
have the proof we want so badly.
