is there a feature, or could there ever be...where I could log all the lego sets
that I own in order to navigate through locating where a found piece may go?

For example, I found a piece and want to put it back with its proper set. I found
the piece on bricklink and it says that the piece is part of over 1000 sets.

So i got through the list of 1000 sets to see which ones we have...and I see
3. So now I will check those 3 sets to see where this missing piece would go.

This feature would isolate the sets that I own that have it...so it would just
list the 3 that i own that have the piece.

BrickLink does have an inventory feature, but it is only available to sellers.
So you could upgrade your account to a seller account to use the inventory feature.
However, I'm not aware of any way to search your inventory for all the sets
that contain a given part. For that, you might be better of using Rebrickable
or Brickset or some other website.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check out those sites. I spend far too much
time trying to keep my son's sets together. Ijust scrolled through 1000 sets
so anything that can save me time.

Depending on how common the part is, you can cut down on the list of possible
sets by sorting them out by the color of the part. That way the list only shows
sets where that part is included in that exact color. Could maybe cut from 1000
sets to 100 sets unless it is a super common part.

It would also be possible to create an inventory of all parts based on the sets
you own, but it would be pretty tedious if you have a lot of sets. You would
have to upgrade to a seller account first. Then on the main page for each set
that you have there will be an option to Part Out into your inventory. You can
set it up to automatically have a note for which set they go into when it's
parted out, however the tricky part will be grouping the same parts in the same
color that show up in multiple sets. You should be able to group those with
notes/remarks based on the set number, but I've never tried it. Just make
sure that you add them to your Stockroom instead of For Sale. That way they
won't be available for people to buy. Once you have all of the sets parted
into your inventory, you could search for the part under Search My Inventory
and ideally the quantity should show up for each set that piece is in.

Another possible method that would not require the user to upgrade to a seller
account would be to create a separate Wanted List with the inventory of each
set, which is easily done using the "Part Out" button under "My Wanted List"
on the catalog entry of the set, and then searching your Wanted Lists for the
part in question.

If you have identified the part click on "appears in" from the tool bar. Enter
your part number and color and then click on "view appearance" and BrickLink
will list all the sets that contain that part. If you have something partially
assembled click on "find multiple items in inv" and enter three parts numbers
and color and BrickLink will list all sets that contain all three of those parts.

Hope this helps
Doug
