Please remove the default quote of the previous forum post in a post reply.

I find the forum difficult to read because of the forum style (where each reply
can become a seperate thread)
All the unneccessary quotes make it even more difficult to read.

Sometimes in a large discussion a reply is almost reduced to vertical layout
of words (somewhere on the right side of the screen) because of all the quotes
and thread splits.

I agree.

Actually I don't as it can remove the context, and the user has the option
of removing it by selecting and deleting it. Especially if you are referring
back to different pats of a post it is useful to have that post to selective
quote it.

But most users do not remove the default quote (which can be a lot of text).

Yes, 'selective quote' those should be used. So no default quote, but
an option to quote (part of) a previous post.

I agree, we should have a selective post option.

The points of the new message start to get overlooked due ti the sheer volume
of repeat messages

I agree, we should have a selective post option.

We already do, you can edit the post removing anything that is irrelevant to
your answer and breaking up the post to refer back to individual parts as required.

How would the system know which parts need to be removed, or which parts are
required by the user in their reply?

In some other forum systems, the editor is just under the thread, so you quote
entire posts (plural) or select text in a post and a button appears to add a
quote of the selection.

Of course, that can’t work on this forum which works like an e-mail system.

Besides, on these other systems, once a message is quoted in full, it’s often
a pain to cut it in bits while it’s very easy here.

Thinking of this forum as an e-mail system makes everything more logical.

Yes, sometimes you need to quote a post multiple times and edit nearly all of
the text out of each one just to refer to the bit you want to refer to.

Yes, I agree.
