| I just spent over two hours submitting elements and adding copious detail to
the description of some new minifigure parts. Now they all read RETITLE. Why?
If the person who knows how these need to be submitted, the catalog admins, can't
fix the titling and you are expecting the submitter to read your minds as to
how they should be labeled it ain't gonna happen. We can't even modify
the titles after submission, how am I expected to retitle them?
Two plus hours down the drain trying to help, last time I do this. Y'all
are on your own.

The removal of the titles you created and their replacement with the word Retitle
was not a request for you to do anything further. It was merely a note to ourselves
that before approving your submissions every of them would have to be entirely
retitled to meet catalog standards.
The titles you submitted for these parts were, without exception, in lowercase
letters, did not include category-appropriate terms, and in multiple other ways
failed to meet catalog standards for part titles.
Additionally, you submitted 18 minifigure parts with no indication whatsoever
as to the sets in which these figure parts are included and the torso assemblies
you submitted were not accompanied by torso entries. We will work through your
submissions and get them approved, but it will take a little time.

A brief glance through similar parts will give you some idea of our basic standards
for catalog titles, at least enough that complete part retitles aren't necessary.
| We can't even modify the titles after submission, how am I expected to retitle them?
|
Please do not retitle them. We will create titles for your pending parts this
time, although I have spoken to you privately in the past about the quality of
your submissions. And yes, you can modify any attribute of a pending submission
by vititing this page: https://www.bricklink.com/myActivity.asp

So adding the eye color, eyebrow color, lip color and an expression for minfig
heads is incorrect? Describing the torsos assby to include jewelry, ornamentation,
colors of additional items worn and arm and hand colors if different than the
submitted photograph for each of the items wasn't correct? Because that is
what is included with other approved elements. Also I didn't think including
a photo of the armless torso and including the source of the parts was a hard
requirement, even though the LEGO official ID was included with the photo and
could easily be traced to the set once the set inventory is being done. I'm
just trying to help but if what I'm doing isn't good enough and it is
taxing for you to have to modify, sorry rewrite, all of them because of capitalization
errors then have at it solo.
This is a prime example of why there isn't more help from volunteers and
why the catalog from BrickLink lags. I do appreciate what y'all do Stormie
but maybe a different approach when a grammatical or order error is made, especially
when it is obvious someone spent considerable time trying to be of assistance.
And not reconsidering. I'll upload photos of new colored elements directly
to my store instead of submitting them to the catalog in the future and just
not do jack poo for new elements, I don't want to make things more difficult
and it really seems to be what you would prefer from me.

Well, let's see what kind of attention your catalog submissions received
today. These items you submitted today were approved within hours on a Sunday
afternoon after some images were cropped, some item numbers corrected, accompanying
torso entries separately created, weights added, and all titles rewritten:
[P=36036pb18]
[P=66090pb01]
[P=68540pb01]
In return for this rapid approval, we received a public forum post denigrating
the level of service provided by the catalog team. Does this seem like a fair
exchange?

I've never been one to have a problem admitting when I'm wrong. In the
future, I will not modify your pending submissions until I'm actually in
the process of approving that submission. Hopefully this will eliminate any
distress or anxiety on your part about contributing.
And thank you for getting these missing parts into the catalog. It is appreciated.

Thank you for adding the parts and I do really appreciate it but of course some
of the part numbers were changed, how is a member supposed to know what cat number
BL is going to throw on a torso or head? The torso by itself, weight, measurements,
etc are not required. I'm just trying to keep the pieces moving forward
and keep this site competitive. Description, picture and part number is all that
is required and that is what is always submitted. I apologize that it was not
to perfection.
I did not denigrate your work, I asked why the details I submitted, almost the
same as what you rewrote for the submissions above, were deleted and explained
how frustrating it was that I didn't know why this was done since you just
deleted and typed Retitle. You escalated in your post, I escalated in mine, you
added the parts and here we are.
All it took was a simple follow-up email. I replied immediately concerning the
Technic part submitted at the same time, the one with the new LEGO part number
for an older part. Just trying to make sure the cat had the new numbers since
that is what SPC is going with in the future.
Again, thank you, wasn't trying to denigrate your work or effort, just wanted
to know why I wasted hours and know I know. And knowing is half the battle.

If you are getting the benefit of being able to sell the parts in your store
now because you added them to the catalog, how are you "wasting" your time? I
am generally curious.
You must realize that us admins' time is precious, also, correct? We only
have so much time to do a massive amount of constant work for the site, so why
should all of the onus of time and work commitments be put on our shoulders?
Most of us don't even have stores to reap any benefit from. We aren't
full time BrickLink employees, you know, and we manage to get stuff accomplished
seven days a week. If we were employees, you wouldn't have even had someone
to respond to you until tomorrow at the earliest and you would be lucky to get
such quick turnaround.

There was no time expectation on those new parts being added, some of them have
been waiting in a tray in my office for over a year. I was concerned because
the work I did, trying to hold to the standard was just deleted without a message
where a message had just been sent minutes before about a different element.
Communication, that's what this is about. I guess that part was missed. It's
pretty simple and would probably go down like this: Admin - Do this, do that,
yadda yadda yadda and the title is fixed. Me - NP, I'll get right on that,
thanks for letting me know. I'll make sure I do that in the future.
See how simple that could have been? Now here we are six messages later, wasting
more time...

I don't work on the catalog side, but I communicate quite extensively with
members on the inventories side. It's something that I pride myself on. I
am obviously not privy to everything that occurred, but I can assume a bit more
communication would have helped. In any case, I am glad it is all worked out
now. By the way, I don't see communicating with members as wasting my time.

Communication is key when dealing with a voluntary force and I too am glad it
kind of worked out. I would have been happy to wait for the additions, I just
wanted to try to move the pieces forward since they are already available on
other competing websites.
BTW - This whole thing began with me trying to help out with the missing photos
from the recent Technic Lambo set so BL could finalize the inventory. Just
trying to help since I have the parts in hand.

We aren't waiting for images for that inventory, but thank you. Inventories
can be approved without all of the images for all of the parts. The inventories
just need to be correct and complete. What we are waiting on is the submitter
of the inventory to actually complete it, and they have already been notified
that we are waiting.

I can see why the submitter would think that he needed to retitle all the submissions.
If the word "retitle" is just a note to the catalog administrators, then it
should be added in a way that is only visible to the catalog administrators (similar
to how sellers can ad notes that only they can see to their items for sale.)
Since the notes were added in a way that someone besides the catalog administrators
could see it, I assume that that's the only way to currently do it. Here's
to hoping that changes.
