Can someone please create a new image for the Metallic Gold Bionicle Mask Pakari?
The current one looks silver, and has confused several people I have spoken with.
I unfortunately don't have one on-hand at the moment, or I would snap a picture
myself. Alternately, can a Studio render be used?

Offer more info...

You've been around the forum long enough to know. How about at least a catalog
link to the part in question? It doesn't take much time to insert it. You'll
get far more people examining what you're referring to.

Part No: 32566 Name: Bionicle Mask Pakari
*
32566 Bionicle Mask Pakari
Parts: Bionicle, Kanohi Mask
Just some hopefully helpful advise.

Here's the current cat pic for metallic gold, the OP is referencing. And
yes, it is misleading

Thanks for the advise, but no, I haven't actually done this before... So
I didn't know what was needed for a request.

Thanks for the link.

Very nice, and definite improvement over the current pic!

Thanks! Me and Photoshop could improve a lot of stuff around here... But I worry
about adjusting someone else's image and submitting it as my own. I only
do it in cases like this where the image can cause errors for sellers.

I do have to ask, how does one submit a picture to be added? I've never gone
through this before.

Prepare your picture (800x600 max for parts https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=87
).

Open the catalogue.
On top, link “Add or Change.”
Column “Image,” choose part, fill the form, upload the pic.

I don't believe that mask is classified correctly. The color Metallic Gold
is used for a part that has been drum lacquered with a coating of gold paint.
The part in that image is much too shiny to be a Metallic Gold part since the
Metallic Gold paint has a matte finish. The part in that image looks more copper-colored
to me, so I would not be surprised if it is entirely wrong.

Cheers,
Randy

I agree. I will contact the sellers listing it as metallic gold to see if any
really have metallic gold and see what the feedback is.

All of the original Bionicle masks are listed that way- Hau, Pakari, Akaku, kakama,
Haukau, Miru. All are listed as having come in Metalic Gold, and that's the
how most of the gold masks are sold. It might be detrimental to change the classification
now, after 20 years.

I think I should clarify my thoughts- These masks are a rather unique color.
They aren't pearl gold, nor are they copper of flat dark gold. Same with
the silver versions of the masks. They aren't pearl or flat silver. So I
don't know how to classify them.

We may need new colors to classify them, but first, we will need to have conversations
with some of the color experts about it. I do not have first-hand experience
with these masks, so I would need to "learn up".

Well, that was easy. I found them already.

One of the colors is known as 178 Yellow Flip/Flop:

The other color is known as 179 Silver Flip/Flop:

Both of these colors are not differentiated on BrickLink, so they will need new
colors to properly isolate them.

These 2 parts also have odd colors and I have always thought they should get
the colors renamed.

Yes, those parts come in a number of colors that are not classified on BrickLink.
It is really hard to say right now if those colors or the other ones will get
new colors, but the topic will be discussed for sure.

The current one looks silver, and has confused several people I have spoken with.
I unfortunately don't have one on-hand at the moment, or I would snap a picture
myself. Alternately, can a Studio render be used?

I don't believe that mask is classified correctly. The color Metallic Gold
is used for a part that has been drum lacquered with a coating of gold paint.
The part in that image is much too shiny to be a Metallic Gold part since the
Metallic Gold paint has a matte finish. The part in that image looks more copper-colored
to me, so I would not be surprised if it is entirely wrong.

Cheers,
Randy

Cheers,
Randy

Well, that was easy. I found them already.

One of the colors is known as 178 Yellow Flip/Flop:

The other color is known as 179 Silver Flip/Flop:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/126975831@N07/15100531986/

Both of these colors are not differentiated on BrickLink, so they will need new
colors to properly isolate them.

Cheers,
Randy

There also exists this color. purple/brown/rose????????????

That appears to be the Copper Huna, which is, ya know, not actually copper (but
referred to as copper in the story). I have no idea what to actually call it.
Dark Copper?

I have sold masks under the copper color in the past. Just thought I would bring
up this color so if something is done on BL with the Bionicle colors it would
be included as well as the 2 other parts I referenced

I have a lot of experience with these masks. I physically have all of them.
This color is called copper by TLG when released. The gold and silver maskes
are the same.

When they first came out 18 years ago, they wouldn't fit into any color description
at the time. There was a lot of confusion and discussion about where to put the
masks, color wise. We did the best we could but it was woefully inadequate.
Maybe the color names should be "Bionicle Gold" etc.

Yes, it is. Another color unrecognized by BrickLink.

Your post has brought some issues to light that would probably best be addressed
as part of our project on correcting color problems in the catalog (project 4
under consideration):

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2476

So I've added your input to the project and we'll look at it when we
start working on that project.

Thank you for adding that.

I'm going to be completely honest here- I don't really have a problem
with the way things are right now. I have not heard anything about buyers being
confused about the colors (and I've sold hundreds of these buggers). Pretty
much anyone buying these knows that they only came in one gold and one silver
color.

So if this issue is pushed to the bottom of the pile (behind much more problematic
things), I won't raise any complaints. If it gets rectified sometime in the
future, I'm all for that, but it isn't hurting anyone right now (aside
from that one bad picture).
