My box was not sealed, but the bags were. The hoses were not inside bags, so I'm floating this out there and reasonable confidence. The hoses were meant to be cut to the lengths in the instructions (which match what the inventory currently says). My rigid hose was 1 stud short of what the inventory shows and was in a sealed bag. The gears were in a sealed bag too, which is strange because they aren't in the instructions anywhere. I am guessing that the bag of little parts is common to more than one set.

If you remove the cut hose, it will be very hard to know what length of used
hose to buy. Doesn't it make sense to move the cut pieces to 'counterparts'?
