Anyone else living in a place under travel restrictions due to coronavirus?

In the US, more and more cities/counties have forbidden traveling outside the
home except for medical care, essential goods or mandatory work. Banks will
be ATM or drive thru only.

Not yet but everywhere of any interest is closing.

My youngest daughter was told earlier this week after it broke in the press that
she may be amongst the many that will lose their jobs where she works.

I'm trying to find another job at 61 due to one member of the new management
that is treating everyone like excrement and their boss thinks the sun shines
out of their backside as they only talk to that very person.

Now, this very morning my wife has been told that her company will be axing people,
makes you wonder why we do anything, life is so *!*!

Note to self, remember to be delusional and somehow believe things will get better.

I'm very sorry. That sounds really rough.

I probably shouldn't have posted a topic so potentially depressing on Bricklink.

Not at all.

I'm the one turning it that way, having yet another bad day etc etc.

Sorry about that, just felt better to rant.

I think people being able to talk about it if they want isn't a bad thing.

It is an existential issue for anyone who is doing small, home-scale, online
retail. It is a perfectly appropriate question (how does this effect the ability
to ship things), and it leads to questions about can the sellers stay in operation
(kinda hard to justify buying lego when you're out of work).

I don't know how the social safety net works in the U.K. I'm presuming
there will be some sort of unemployment aid?

Our unemployment aid applications skyrocketed yesterday.

Unless you know the ins and outs of the system, you've paid full stamp all
your life if you are a women in the U.K. , your spouse doesn't earn more
than a certain amount each year then you get virtually nothing.

It may help but you can't keep up with your commitments and they won't
understand, they won't allow for the effects of this pandemic.

Here there's no lockdown yet, but it could happen any moment. If it does,
it means I can't ship out orders anymore so I will need to close. That's
OK though, I have enough Lego to sort in the meantime, so I can continue working
regardless

Why can't you ship out any LEGO if we go in lockdown?
Or isn't there any PostNL-service point close to you that will remain open?

Well I am assuming they will close, since they're not in supermarkets around
here. But technically I could go to another town. And that's where we have
an interesting gray area: Where to draw the line, when to say officially "I can't
work"? I think the government with be generous with compensation, but let's
see.

Hmm, that's bad (not in supermarket). We have in our little village (6500
people) two service points for PostNL. One might close when we get a 'lockdown',
the one I always use due more knowledge of the people. However, the other one
is in a supermarket so should remain open. I think Post keeps going as much as
possible even when we go in lockdown. Also I don't expect the lockdown be
long here..

Nothing in this part of Florida yet. The lower east coast, Ft Lauderdale and
Miami, appears to be where the highest number of cases have been found.

Checking USPS, they are still running normally within the US. This very revealing
statement has been posted …

In addition, the Postal Service is an essential service for purposes of its compliance with state or municipality shelter-in-place orders or other social distancing restrictions. The Postal Service delivers medications, social security checks, and is the leading delivery service for on-line purchases. The statute that created the Postal Service begins with the following sentence. “The United States Postal Service shall be operated as a basic and fundamental service provided to the people by the Government of the United States, authorized by the Constitution, created by an Act of Congress, and supported by the people.” 39 U.S.C. §101(a).

Yes, thank heavens for the postal service. I noticed a mail carrier wearing rubber
gloves. Felt sorry for him. I don't like the way rubber gloves make my
hands feeling all sweaty and clammy after a while. I'm really looking forward
to a Bricklink delivery due in the mail tomorrow. It's going to be the bright
spot in my week. Though it sounds like it is getting harder for sellers to travel
to the post.

Seems like every day something new is closed. Today our Goodwills close for at
least two weeks. Gov. Inslee closed restaurants, bars, hair salons, etc. this
past week for at least two weeks. Grocery stores still open. When I was driving
around, it surprised me that Home Depot and Lowe's was still open. Guess
if you have nothing else to do since you are stuck at home you can get your gardening
supplies.

Today is my husband's first day of working at home. He is a civilian working
for the government. An electrical engineer working for the feds on a navy base.
Usually, he could not take any laptops or anything else home from work. Secret
torpedo stuff. But now, they are going to try it with half of the engineers home,
half at work. Then switch off weekly.

My poor son. He is in his last quarter at UW. He came home for spring break a
week early, since they canceled the last week of class last quarter, and finals
were all online. Gov. Inslee closed all schools until April 24th. All schools
in the state. I think we may have been the first state to do that, but now I
see a lot of other states are doing it also. Anyway, my son just got notice yesterday
that UW will go ahead and cancel all of next quarter for in-person classes. All
instruction will be online only. Now we have to go get all his stuff from the
dorm, since it isn't going to be just a month closed, but permanent. I am
sure that graduation ceremonies will be canceled as well.

We canceled our beach house rental for spring break at Long Beach. We were still
going to go up until a couple days ago until the notice went out that restaurants
will close. Half the reason for going on vacation is to go out to our favorite
restaurants!

We canceled my mom's birthday cruise for next month. My two brothers and
I and our spouses were taking my mom on a Holland America cruise. Not anymore.
Even though HA was not an affected cruise line (yet) we are not taking my 89
year old mom to the airport, taxis, cruises, etc. She is sheltering in place,
she lives in an apartment below one brother's house. He is bringing her all
she needs.

I could go on and on, but I know all of you are experiencing it and worse. It
just started here first because of the sad nursing home here in Kirkland. (about
2-3 hours from me).

Oh, and for the first time in my life have I ever seen the border to Canada closed.
So much going on right now is historic. And tragic.

Stay safe everyone.

There are two responses to that, one is very inappropriate for BL. The other
is that I do my own, and I have enough supplies in there to (hopefully) last
me thru the end of 2020. We'll see about that one. There are times when it
helps to be self reliant. Now, back to my regularly scheduled spring gardening,
already in progress.

No but I suspect its coming once testing shows real numbers.

My SO got axed to part time yesterday, but in 2008 he was laid off (same company)
so I'm not holding my breath that he'll have a job soon. He is skilled
labor, so worst case he can do it on the side. I'm concerned mostly for his
health coverage going away.

I work in a (probably, its unclear) essential industry and my boss has no intentions
on closing unless forced. So I'm probably ok. I was kept in on board through
the great recession when others were cut, so unless we go under (unlikely) I
will have a job.

My packages are picked up at work, so the worst I'll have to do is change
that to my house.

My P.O. Was open yesterday with a sign that said to stay 6 feet apart, it was
pretty empty.

No lockdowns here in Australia yet, in fact I have a package to pick up from
the post office this morning once it opens containing yet another Bricklink order
with parts for the Zoo I am working on (which depending on how this thing goes
may not actually make it to a display since all large gatherings have been canceled
until further notice)
