With TLG owning or when the sale is final. Will we as the buyers have to pay
sales tax? TLG has locations in a number of states so their is a tax man's
argument. Will we as buyers start to get VIP points soon?

What are your thoughts?

BrickLink will remain a separate entity with a separate tax id number. Nothing
will change because of the purchase.

Not sure this is correct. It is rather complicated as to whom is responsible
for the collection of sales tax. Based on how different states are requiring
online sales tax collection, BL might be obligated to implement tax collection
across the site.

The issue is the individual store owners vs. BL - it would probably be better
if BL acted as collection agent, than 10,000+ stores doing this. The same issue
is occuring with Amazon and Ebay sellers.

I collect Florida sales tax which is already a nightmare with 67 counties with
different rates (and special taxing districts). I can't imagine collecting
sales tax for all states, much better idea if a site-wide solution was developed.

My statement was that sales tax collections will not change because TLG purchased
BrickLink.

BrickLink may be obligated to collect tax in the near future, however who owns
the stock/shares of BrickLink will not affect the requirement to collect tax.

I doubt there will be VIP points on purchases, as you are not buying from LEGO.

The tax issue is a US specific one, so I imagine you will still be responsible
for collecting and paying any tax for selling to different states at least in
the short term. Maybe if they do a BL US site (like ebay US is different to other
national ebay sites) then you will get specific US seller tools for collecting
tax.

It is quite different actually. I am, as a seller, responsible for charging you
sales tax if applicable. In my case, because my shop is so small, I can get away
with only charging sales tax for buyers located in Arkansas, so that's what
I've set up on Bricklink.

At some point I might have to set up a nexus in different states, depending on
turnover and/or amount of orders per state, but that would get a lot more complicated.

eBay and Amazon handle it different with their sellers, they charge Tax for their
sellers, and take care of everything. I've yet to figure out with my tax
guy if and how to file that, but there should be a principle set up already.

This is, to me, an interesting subject. Currently, any sales I have on eBay (to
~30 odd states) are having tax charged, and eBay is handling the collection and
remittance to sales & use tax for those states. The only state that I process
sales tax for is the state I live in (Florida). I have a sales tax ID number
for Florida, but not for any of those other states. eBay handles it on their
side. While I do not sell on Amazon, I believe it is handled similarly there.
That TLG has tax numbers (an retail outlets in many states) may not be the real
issue. The more appropriate question would be: which states does S@H collect
sales tax for ? That may be the deciding factor for BL (when this all gets sorted
out).
