Some years ago at the Columbia Towers Club BL meeting, I had suggested an idea
that I had held for some time. The meeting was not long after Jung-Ju acquired
the site, so I figured the odds were increased in getting broader/bolder changes
implemented.

Remember back when we had auctions. You could proactively sell not just advertise
on/alongside the forum. It was exciting and fun! It stimulated individual store
growth. I don't remember how long-lived the function was, or much else
about it, other than it was a blast! It stirred-up the buying/selling and connected
members like little else does.

I’ve said it before, what sets BL apart, is it's balanced intersection of
commerce and community, I mean in the true sense of both terms! Not an e-commerce
site with an after-thought-back-page forum, or a social media site that plays
at e-commerce.

Anyway, my suggestion was to bring back the chat function in order to offload
a level and certain type of traffic here in the forum, to then reintroduce the
auction and/or any other more commerce-centric ideas to the platform.

Whether of not to bring back the chat function, I’m uncertain. My thinking was
that it would offload traffic here in the forum, but I couldn’t care less if
it does reappear. I’ve a total of 5 mins logged in chat, myself. I didn’t use
it as I spent my time enjoying sociability through commerce.

In short, it just might stimulate the site's sales numbers, while adding
excitement to the platform. Couldn't hurt

Personally and sadly, we no longer have a stake in any such outcome, we’re exiting
the whole selling thing. But there are so many great paths to take this site
down. Maybe consider grabbing ideas from it’s past? Adapt and update them to
then reintroducing them into BL’s future, i.e. modern, efficient, but retro.

Just some more rambling thoughts… generated by reading the many fantastic inputs
to concerns, Nate’s and others.

HI again

Chat ? Maybe, maybe not - wasn't that one of the causes of problems? I only
spent 2 minutes or so on it and am not bothered it isn't there. The forum
concept and outside the forum as well as outside Bricklink communications is
a lot to handle - as for auctions not a fan of that idea at all. If we or anyone
wants that they have other sites where they can do that. I prefer Bricklink to
stay with its concept of e-commerce (Not the currently planned XP mind you) but
the tried and tested version of what we have with a better UI, more stability
in its code, returning to a true community where members have a say in what is
happening.

I am pretty sure that is not going to happen, at least not in its entirety but
here anything fan happen.

As for you moving out of selling - good luck with whatever you end up doing.
For those of us who have a few more goals to reach before that happens we would
like BL to stick around, get better, more communicative etc, which would make
all our lives easier.

Our little poke into how the membership is made up seemed to show a lot more
'businesses ' on here now than ever before - whether that is good bad
or indifferent depends on an individuals opinion.

Time will tell

I am not so sure of chat but I think the sentiment is right that there could
be some forum traffic that may be better hidden from the forum. The auction idea
is a a great one and would cover a weakness of BL(it is not the best place to
sell bulk Lego). For those who want to sell a lot of bricks quickly and doesn't
have time to list individual pieces and auction option woulf be awesome.

I would love to have an auction option here. Years ago when I was a power seller
I did extremely well, but those days are long gone. Now unless you wait for
special offers, usually limited to just 5 listings, the fees can eat you alive.
Plus no more power seller and the corresponding benefits, and FVF's on shipping,
it's a no brainer.

I for one, would gladly move my bulk lot auctions here. More fees/profit for
BL and more profit for me, no downside that I can see.

Know what you mean. I'm still a Power Seller and Top Rated whatever, and
any other badge they can flatter you with from month to month But it's
nothing I look for, nor strive towards, nowadays.

Great point with the whole selling bulk lots question, Darcy. Thank you!

A very nice read here

As always I find your posts the most interesting so keep that aspect up as they
always bring some good reads

But as for a chat that's an idea but as I was on a previous site for art
and animation for the past 18 years chat is good in bringing more quality to
the community but also brings on that demographic of not such wanted traffic

My opinion is that bricklink does need a change in how the forum runs and acts
it's clonky compared to some of the newer ones and styles not sure I would
go with a chat but a much more improved forum system cleaner sleeker more use
of a improved navigation panel as well

Just some imput

I think most here are of the same opinion as you. But some of us old-timers kinda
like this simple "60's muscle car" forum feel.

Just some input

By the way, and to others reading this, Sadler_Bricks is an excellent new store,
with supreme quality and service.

Not sure the website would gain anything from a chat feature. Sounds like a waste
of developer time and website funds. Hell yeah to the auction idea!

implemented.

Veterans Day. Do something special for the veteran you know.

I still don't fully understand why there are those that take the time to
email rather than post it in the forum. They obviously spend time in the forum,
reading.

Sometimes, I want to ask the email's authors if they don't wish to express
their sentiments in the forum, would it be okay if I post their email anonymously?
I don't know, it just doesn't sit right to ask, knowing they gotta have
their reasons. And besides, anything anonymously posted would carry little weight,
lacking gravitas.

Some are understood as to why they might not want to express what they have to
say publicly (the burn in hell type) Privately, you can make use of your full-range
of expression The last such email was quite a while ago and I did post that,
albeit, paraphrased and anonymous Gotta love that passion!

However, most are supportive and/or neutral with insightful thoughts and ideas.
Why not express those openly? [to those reading but not posting...wink wink,
nudge nudge] And to those, I'd say: jump on in, the water's fine!
