Hello new to Bricklink

Looking to part out a set for purchase, get 4 stores to buy items.

1 $9.00 in parts $7.25 S&H
2 $23 in parts $4.80 S&H
3 $35 in parts $11.00
4 $28 and $9.00 in S&H

$32.00 in shipping on approx $95.00 in parts or 33%

Is there a way to minimize the shipping costs. I selected USA only, thinking
that CA or Intl would be even more.

It's not so much about the value of your order, but the weight, size, and
location of your order. If your order weighs more than a pound and needs to
travel across the country, it's going to cost no less than around $10 for
the seller to ship. If these orders are small in size/weight, you are shopping
at the wrong stores as first class shipments across country should be less than
any of these examples.

That´s alot! I am only charging 8.5 Euros for an envelope international (0.5kg
max). Why do people always have these high S&H fees?

It really depends on value and size. If I have to ship even a single windscreen
to the US, it's going to be almost €20, and then I haven't even counted
tracking or insurance. On the other hand, small orders can be under €3 postage.

The rates stated by the OP do not look red flag high to me. Shipping in the USA
is much more expensive than you guys in Europe are used to.

To the OP. You can ask the higher fee ones if a flat rate envelope is available.
They are padded USPS bubble mailers for $7.55 and if it fits it ships, no matter
the weight.

I use them quite a bit, for some reason some sellers don't seem to offer
them, they cut shipping costs quite a bit.

I to use these all the time. They hold A LOT OF LEGO! I dont know why other stores
do not offer them.

The good thing is that when set to use with instant check out based on volume,
I have yet to have an order not fit, sometimes they get very close to not fitting
but so far they have always fit.

Maybe part of the reason most stores dont offer them is because you cant get
them from the post office directly but you need to order them online but they
are free and the post office dose not charge for shipping them.

That's what I think at this point too. I used to be able to walk in the P.O.
and grab them, but then they started hoarding them behind the counter. Then rationing
them to 2 per request.

I ordered a ton of them online, several times actually, and I was never sent
any.

I finally actually bought like 100 of them off an ebay seller for like $15 w/free
ship or something like that, because I couldn't get them

Was worth it though.

Interesting, I never thought about them being intercepted. Makes total sense
now.

I have enough to last at least another year, thankfully.

Now, that's not cool of them!

I guess we've been lucky, in that every PO we've been assigned to, has
had plenty of such in their lobby for the taking, including our current PO.

But, where our PO falls short is lobby clean-up, as patrons end-up stepping over
all the free priority envelops and boxes after hours. Sadly, we've far too
many homeless where we live, that use the lobby to sleep out of the weather.

Unlike the envelopes and boxes the homeless use for bedding and the like, picking-up
after themselves is apparently not 'priority'

I ordered a ton of them online, several times actually, and I was never sent any.

More likely they were short-stopped by your PO. Some PO are run better than others,
some don't keep up on ordering lobby supplies.

I still order them online via our USPS account, they've not failed so far
to deliver. I have had postal employees ask if I'd mind if they keep a bundle
or two of the boxes when they're short, but only from those that know me
on a first name basis.

I finally actually bought like 100 of them off an ebay seller for like $15 w/free
ship or something like that, because I couldn't get them
Was worth it though.

I admire that. Get it done attitude and lateral moves

But shhhh! don't tell anyone, but the disclaimer on every Priority Mail box
and envelope states: "This packaging is the property of the United States Postal
Service and is provided solely for use in sending Priority Mail shipments. Misuse
may be a violation of federal law. And by "solely for use in sending Priority
Mail shipments" it's implicit that they are not for resell.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Archive-Selling/Is-it-illegal-to-sell-USPS-Priority-Mail-shipping-supplies/td-p/26184535

Let me know in the long run if "it was worth it"

Shipping to you is free. You need to add postage when you use them.

Nice thing is that they’re flat rate anywhere in the US, and you can fit a small
box inside the bubble mailer and really save on postage.

Yes, that can happen, but it depends on what is ordered. Without more information,
you will not know. In the USA, charges are by volume or by weight, whichever
is the greater. In South Africa, the post office does not charge by volume for
international orders, same with a few other countries. I can also ship cheaper
than USA rates, but it means waiting a fair bit longer, something some buyers
do not want to do. Some countries only allow parcels to be sent, whereas you
can still use letter rates subject to size restrictions elsewhere. Some countries
also have surface mail options which is far more efficient for large weight or
volume orders. Couriers are always more expensive. Some sellers will assist buyers
to lower costs and sell more LEGO, some will not.

Why do people always have these high S&H fees?

Because they sell shipping services and not LEGO

8.5 Euro is about $9.30. Isn't that close to all the shipping prices mentioned?

All the shipping prices mentioned are inside the USA. I am talking about an international
price. I can ship for 8.5 to the USA or Japan for example.

As others have mentioned, it is not the value of your order in the US, but weight
and location, location, location! I live in WA, and for me to ship you an order
that is under 4 ounces, it would be $3.50. If your order weighs closer to 14
ounces, it is $6.00. Anything over a pound, and I try my best to put it in the
flat rate priority padded envelope for $8.00. So we cannot judge the above sellers,
unless we knew 1) the weight of the order and 2) the distance from the seller
to you.

I have a chart next to my computer that lists my Domestic Zone Chart rates from
my zip code to anywhere else in the country so I know what to charge for each
zip code.

I can say that people are dodging fees related to sales by lowering the sales
price but increasing the shipping. I do not sell on BL but I have sold in the
past on Ebay, and found that higher shipping means lower feees to ebay regarding
the sale price.

I just want to understand so that I can buy with some IQ.

I also get location, I am unfortunatly avoiding the Intl market because of cost
of S&H

Ebay did away with this a long time ago (5+ years?) due to abuse. You now pay
fees based on the total sale.

Here on BL I would imagine its more about luring in customers with "cheap" prices
on the actual parts.

Ebay caught on to people cheating them out of fees some time ago. They now charge
fees based on the total amount including shipping There was a time in Ebay
history where there were a lot of one cent items and exorbitant shipping fees.
History of the World book signed by Lincoln, Churchill and Ponce De Leon? one
cent for the book and $950 shipping

Shopping internationally does not automatically mean you pay more. I recently
bought 1 oz of parts for $14 shipping costs in the US because the parts themselves
were so much cheaper that it was worth the shipping.

There are countries out there with shipping costs below the rates you mention.
At least for orders below 17 ounces.

I would be able to ship 17 oz for $4.10 like most of the smaller registered businesses
in Germany. Shipping costs from Lithuania, Slovakia, Austria.. are similar cheap.
If you find 2 stores with all the items you need you save again

Maybe you an also do some tuning with your 4 stores, trying to stay under certain
thresholds. Shop 1 with ~80% falls out of the line for example

A threshold can be volume, weight or value per lot. Some stores charge fees if
you add too many lots.
