September the 24th is a very special day of the year for BrickLink. It marks
the passing of the site's founder, Dan Jezek. There is a special banner running
on our main page today:

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/main.page

For more information about Dan, you may read here:

https://moc.bricklink.com/pages/moc/help/about3.page

************************************

This year we also did something extra. There was a page of the site that Dan
never finished in the catalog credits section regarding PCCs. We have now finished
the page and are no longer purging the PCC log as of last night.

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogReqList.asp?viewAction=H&chgUserID=53945&v=3

The part of the log that was previously purged will (eventually) be partially
reconstructed to at least show all PCCs submitted by each user.

PCCs (Part and Color Combination Codes - also known as Element IDs) have become
increasingly important in recent years as a means of synchronzing with other
sites and with the LEGO user base as a whole. When BrickLink was started, instructions
books did not contain parts lists, and PCC's were for the most part only
used internally by the LEGO Group.

I chose your username because it shows log entries from Aug 24, which would have
been purged under the old purge schedule.

The front part of this feature has been completed for years, but when drilling
down to each member's contributions, it would redirect to the general catalog
page.

Right now, many of the names on the list aren't registering anything since
they haven't added a PCC in the last 30 days. But that will change.

Wow! A couple of things pop for me, looking at the logs. First, I had no idea
Foster was so interested in PCC Second, the level of work Randy, Merek and
a few others have contributed! Amazing amount of time and labor in the form of
contributions! It’s humbling.

What a fantastic way to remember and celebrate someone; the completion of some
of their work on the anniversary of their passing. Very nice and frankly, classy.
I like it!

The reconstructing of the purged credit logs is a worthwhile effort, and also
commendable.

How can they be reconstructed?

Our data is stored in several different ways. All PCCs stored in our system are
linked to a username, and we also have backups that we can access if we need.

I didn't understand what we were talking about. I never knew that the logs
didn't work. I have sometimes looked up other people's stats, but I
guess I have never wondered what kind of PCCs they did.

Thanks, Russell

What an appropriate thing to do in finishing something that Dan would never have
let languish, had he been around to finish the job. Thanks to you and the entire
BrickLink Team for all they do. And many thank yous go to all those BrickLinkers
who take a minute to remember Dan on this day. We sincerely appreciate it.
