Hi,

Does anyone know if payment with PayPal Onsite on Bricklink overwrites the PayPal
address with the Bricklink address?

Thanks in advance.

From our testing in the very beginning the Bricklink address and Paypal address
have to be the same, which in our opinion is flawed, but that has never been
changed. If you have multiple paypal addresses and want to use a different one
to the Bricklink one you have to make a temporary change to the Bricklink one
but do not choose the option to overwrite - just use it as a one off.

The process should use the Paypal address as default not the Bricklink as Paypal
is the one that offers seller/buyer protection, not Bricklink.

Reported as a bug from day 1 and ignored.

You mean on paypal's address settings when you pay? If so, yes.

If you try to change it whilst paying with paypal, a message pops up to say that
the address detail is from the store and that it must be changed by the store
concerned.

It would appear that sellers cannot change the address, and buyers would have
to cancel the order to effect a change in address. Merely changing it in BL after
the order has been placed does not work.

Hi Jean

If you alter the address when placing the order it works, but as I said do not
mark change this to default. After the order has been raised it cannot be changed
via Bricklink.

The design was flawed from the beginning and has stayed that way ever since they
released the feature.

We have multiple paypal address and 2 addresses for Bricklink activities so we
go through this on an order by order basis. If you create a temporary address
at checkout which coincides with a valid Paypal address it works.

Yep, same problem with me - I have at present about 8 addresses for freight forwarders
I can use in different countries. BL also does not allow a change to the country
when placing the order, you have to change the actual country address in your
account settings for that to take effect. Of course for domestic orders it is
not a problem, but it is really an issue when placing international orders.

Also, sometimes I do not want to go through that rigmarole so I just message
the seller and ask them to use the forwarding address, but then of course the
onsite payment does not change the address from my home address. This is not
ideal for all sellers. For a manual payment through paypal, I have manged to
change addresses in paypal, but never for onsite.

A really cumbersome affair, which should have been changed long ago. Interestingly
paypal does not allow addresses in multiple countries and also blocks your account
if you log in from a different country when travelling, at least until you do
verification of your address and identity again.

I believe I am more confused now as I was before

I am the seller.
An Briclink 'EU-member' orders in my store.
He sends an off-site PayPal payment, which I refunded, because I wouldn't
have had seller protection. Buyer's PayPal account is from outside the EU,
where he lives.
The second payment, using PayPal Onsite, shows the exact same EU-address as Bricklink
shows.

I was happy with this, because now I do get seller protection. So I wondered
if a PayPal onsite payment ALWAYS overwrites the address.

Or (do I understand now) that it is a choice a buyer can make??

Unfortunately I don't have much experience myself (as a buyer). Most orders
are paid by IBAN ánd I only have one address to worry about

You did right. On the offsite payment the buyer was supposed to change his address
in paypal when he paid the order as a common courtesy to you so that you have
matching addresses for the address and the order. I do not know the situation
elsewhere, but here it is quite difficult to do since you cannot change the paypal
address beyond 4 digits on he postal code. So correct you refunded.

When the buyer made the payment onsite, the address is "supplied" by you from
the order detail. So if he has an address on Brciklink different to his normal
address and country in Paypal, the Bricklink address will be used, and it will
overwrite the actual Paypal address every time. The buyer will not be able to
change it in paypal at all. As a matter of fact, you should see only that address
in your transaction list in paypal.

So you now have seller protection and of course you only need to provide proof
that the forwarding address received the goods, no sweat.

Again I refunded a payment. This time for an off-site payment.
Buyer from outside EU, has a UK PayPal account. Payment shows an addres outside
EU in the United Kingdom. It says I do have seller protection, but when I phoned
PayPal, they told me I DO NOT!!

Buyer told me he got an error when trying to pay with PayPal Onsite.
Probably, because the country on BL is not the same as on PP?!
