| The sixth project is to review all of the existing additional catalog notes:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2473
I am not aware of a full-scale review of additional notes ever having occurred
in the past. The purpose of this review is primarily to ensure that the notes
are necessary, but also to ensure that they are relevant and grammatically correct.
We now have over 4,000 additional notes and I know for sure that we don't
need some of them. It is my belief that catalog and inventory notes should be
used only when necessary. I'm not against them, but they are special tools
which should be used for a purpose.
Here is an example of an additional note which is unnecessary:
The additional notes states: "Unglued, with candle." This set is clearly not
glued. If it were glued, then it would (or at least definitely should) be categorized
as Gear: Glued Model. As for the candle, this is self-evident from the image
of the set. Nothing would be lost by completely removing this additional note.
Here is another example of a completely unnecessary additional note:
The additional note states: "Exclusive item for 2010 Lego Ambassador Pass holders."
This information is already contained in the title of the set and other similar
items do not include additional notes.
And another example:
This additional note states: "Batman head pattern appears on two opposite sides."
This information should be included in the title of this item, not in an additional
note.
During this review, please report any bugs you discover. This item, for example,
supposedly includes an additional note:
As you can see, no note exists. Bugs like this need to be corrected and I will
work to get this done. To find items with additional notes, use the Advanced
Catalog Search feature.
Thank you all in advance for your assistance with this project.

| Hey mate!
I'm fairly confident that "cupcake" is glued...I own it and it comes in a
clear plastic container. I think it is similar to other glued Legoland items
like the Pirate, Ollie, etc.

It shouldn't have an inventory if all the parts are glued together.

I believe there were two of them:
So the current additional note may be necessary or this may be information which
could be easily transferred to the title of the item.

For discussion: the additional note

Earlier versions had a more round forehead (shown on the right), the later examples
(Futuron, Blacktron and later) hat a more squared-off head (shown on the left).

I think there might be some confusion here. This is one part with a sticker on
either side, not a left and right part. The 'left' and 'right'
on the images makes it sound weird, it really should be 'front' and 'back',
if anything. The 'left' and 'right' only make sense in relation
to the completed model.

This is not a problem with individual catalogue entries, but instead a flaw in

The note on this part is redundant and not entirely accurate.
The information in the note is contained in the name of the part. Also, the stud
type definitions are consistent throughout the catalog, so they do not need to
be inconsistently redefined here in the note.
Please consider removal of the note.
Thanks,
Randy

| An anonymous person would like the following information added for review:
The additional note for
[s=yoda-1]
is too bloated since most of that information is included in the help page for
the "Cannot be Inventoried" flag. I suggest simplifying it to just "This set
is a glued model." or getting rid of the note entirely and adding "(Glued Model)"
to the set name.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The additional note for
is unnecessary since the set name includes "polybag" and the set relationships
includes the other set. I suggest removing the note entirely.

It does not seem pointless to me. If you want to complete a Ninjago spinner set
from the original era of Ninjago with all original parts, you will want the boat
stud that was made in China with item number 93791 and not item number 2654.

OK, but doesn't that hold for many part variations for older sets? These
parts look identical apart from the code number, don't they? Whereas there
are many variations of the good old 1x4 or 2x4 brick that don't get entries
or notes. There is no mention at all for the 1x4 brick, for example, that the
underneaths may have solid or holed rods, or cross supports, and so on.

So have the notes added to the parts you would like more information on just
like I had that note added to the boat stud back in the day. Easy peasy.
The item number 93791 on some boat studs is *very* specific to a certain time
and place of manufacture unlike the overwhelming majority of parts, and I thought
the information was beneficial to add before it got lost to the sands of time.
Getting rid of good knowledge for the sake of getting rid of it is unnecessary.
In fact, my general argument for BrickLink as a whole was always to get as much
information as possible into the system from the huge amount of LEGO knowledge
that frequents this site regularly.

So wouldn't the information about which LEGO-issued number boat stud be better
placed in the notes for those specific sets? After all, if I look at those sets,
there is nothing in the set notes to tell me that and there is nothing in the
inventory to tell me that. It is only if you look in the notes for each individual
part that this would ever be highlighted.

Are you one of those people who love to ask questions about everything but never
take any action? Because it sure seems that way.
I put the information where I thought it should go. That's it. Nothing more,
nothing less. I didn't analyze every situation that would come up for every
person who would like to maybe find that information.
If you think it should go somewhere else, then make a request to have it changed.

Because most of them are in my opinion "generic" and do not have any significance
for me or my collection. This boat stud has a lot of significance for my Ninjago
collection, so I asked for the note to be added. If others want notes added to
other parts that are important to them, then they can request them just like
I did. No one is stopping you or anyone else from doing that. In the end though,
it is at the discretion of the Catalog Admins whether any notes get added.
