Hi Admins.

I recently added 4 doors (4181/4182) to the catalogue, from set 7735, and I noticed
that the dimensions of the doors (stud dimensions) seem to be wrong when I added
them.

When I listed them, the dimensions are empty fields that can be added if necessary,
and it's laid out in the LxWxH format, and so, according to that, the dimensions
are as follows (stud wise) 4x1x5

But the dimensions are showing up as 1x4x5

Can this be looked into?

Regards,

Paul

The dimensions for doors are always put with the smallest dimension being first
just like for standard bricks. Just like part 3001 is a 2x4 brick and not a 4x2
brick, part 4181 is a 1x4 door and not a 4x1 door.

HTH,
Randy

I did guess that, but then why does the dimension fields keep coming up different,
as I have pointed out that according to the fields, they should be, LxWxH?

This is a follow-up point as well.

When I looked at one door within the catalogue, as well as the one that I have
listed within my store, the dimensions are given in Studs/Brick height within
the catalogue, but are given in MM within my inventory, but the format is X,Y,Z
(9.6 x 49.6 x 32), which corresponds to the door actually being 1x4x5

The door actually measures, according to the LxWxH format, 33mm Long, 8mm Wide,
and 49.6mm High

So, where am I going wrong here?

Or are the dimensions laid out wrong in according to the 'Add or Change'
fields?

Not exactly, that would be
  1 brick (= wrong depth)
x 5 bricks + 0.5 plate (= the correct height for the door, stud height included)
x 4 studs (= the correct width)

The packaging dimensions have no order.

BrickLink dimensions were always confusing to me and, now that I have looked
into it, I understand why. This page explains the standard format for stud-size
dimensions:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=261

I believe most stud-size dimensions in the catalog, like those for train doors,
are correct according to that Help Center page. The problem is that add forms
and change request forms specify a different format. So:

Catalog standard for dimensions: width x length x height.
Dimensions on add item and change request forms: length x width x height.

As best I can determine the add item and change forms are not properly labeled.
They function as W/L/H but are labeled L/W/H. I cannot change the wording on
those forms, but I have reported it and marked your request as completed. I
suggest that you and everyone reading this submit bug reports about this issue
to ensure that it receives the appropriate level of attention from the site:

https://www.bricklink.com/helpDesk.asp?helpDeskID=114

Your requests to change the dimensions for two train doors were not approved,
BTW. Their dimensions are currently correct.

I have submitted a bug report into this as you suggested.

That's fine with me.

Thank you for looking into this.

You're welcome. That's what I'm here for.

The mislabeling of add/change forms has been an issue for a very long time and
I never really understood the problem until you brought it up, so I'm glad
you mentioned it.

We'll see how long it takes to get it fixed.

I hope you specified that it should only be updated for the change and add forms
for *parts* only, since this convention does not apply to the change and add
forms for sets, gear, and books.

Cheers,
Randy
