I am still fairly new to BrickLink, but my guess would be that there was 2 line
items for the same part that tipped you off?

It would be nice to have more features like this. I can think of a number of
ways in which they would be handy.

Did follow that link (think I used it in the past) and checked the inv. from
set 7898 and found the 'or' section in the alternate section, never seen
this before:
