Just out of curiosity, did this set come with a catalog or brochure showing other
educational sets from that time period? Did it come with any printed materials
whatsoever?

I'd give it to you, but it looks like you had one a year and a half ago and
still have it if you wanted it.

entry. I found it in a new Duplo set from around that same time.
No instructions for the set, though? The set has an instructions entry. If
it didn't come with instructions, which certainly seems likely to have been
the case, then we need to get rid of the instructions entry for the set.
There's one seller with instructions for sale right now, but that was likely
from blindly parting out the set.
