1)The bricklink timeline of 1987 for 3002 and 3003 is artificial. This set is
from 1987.
2) It took me 5 hours and 52 minutes and 78 seconds to fill these inventory change
requests. If admin think that some bricks have cross supports, it is only 30$
to buy one copy from US (including shipping). Maybe that is less expensive than
any Duplo set?
In the photos (of two different sealed sets available on Ebay), we can see one
blue 3003old, one yellow 3003old and one red 3002old.

from 1982-86, concerning the bricks 3002old and 3003old.
Since the bricklink timeline (1987) for these bricks are artificial and I believe
they are wrong as I only have evidence that the first 3002 and 3003 appeared
after 1990, I think we should change these bricks to 3002old and 3003old at least
for these sets because we have evidence that they are the old version for some
colors so we have some reason to switch the others to the old version, but we
don't have any evidence to keep the later variants 3002 and 3003 on this
sets, do we?

I trust that is not an accurate measurement of the time it took. If so, we must
scrap our current change request form immediately!

True, this set is not expensive. However, it sounds like you're suggesting
I should buy this set to verify its contents. Unfortunately, my friend, I am
not a wealthy person by any means. Although I have bought sets in the past solely
to create an inventory for BrickLink, I don't typically do so just for the
purpose of confirming variants. Period-specific variants are a collector's
game and I'll leave that effort to them.
However, I've often thought it would be wise for BrickLink to have its own
vault of new LEGO sets for reference purposes. By my very rough calculations
it would take somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.5M USD to purchase a new copy
of every LEGO set ever made.
Using calculations of which I am much more confident, if I had $1.5M USD to spare
I certainly wouldn't be spending it on colorful plastic shapes. Therefore,
I can see why BrickLink wouldn't create its own vault.
In the photos (of two different sealed sets available on Ebay), we can see one
blue 3003old, one yellow 3003old and one red 3002old.
I am still looking at these requests, but the very first picture I came across
showed an error in your requests. The yellow 2 x 2 brick indeed lacks inside
supports.
The same brick in white, however, is just up and to the left of the yellow brick
(photo attached). The cross supports are easily seen for the white brick. This
is a prime example of the mixing of variants in sets and why across-the-board
changes aren't always wise.
I'll approve the changes to the yellow 2 x 2 bricks and deny the changes
for the white 2 x 2 bricks.

Second correction for this posted message: the yellow 2 x 2 brick is the printed
brick with an eye and therefore does not count. So all I can say with certainty
as of this moment is that the white and blue 2 x 2 brick changes will be denied
as they are clearly incorrect.

Completely understandable. But if you put it aside you comments in February concerning
the inventory change requests of 7735, then 35USD seems a cheap price:
There are two options:
(a) Leave it alone. If you can't confirm it, then let it go.
(b) Buy the set, open it, and make the necessary corrections. I've bought
a fair number of sets, including some incredibly rare sets, solely for the purpose
of correcting/updating the BrickLink catalog. This was my most recent:
Seeing all the photos which have recently surfaced of sealed train sets, I find
it difficult to understand why it would be difficult to locate some hard proof
for any change request for these sets. Some sets are practically impossible
to locate in brand new condition, or even used condition, but this does not appear
to be the case for 1980s train sets.

Maybe you already realized that this inventory change request was not to improve
its inventory but to understand the time the bricks 3002 and 3003 appeared for
the first time. Thanks for checking the photos more carefully than me. I missed
those cross supports. What we don't know is when this copy was released or
what years these sets(317, 327, 337) were released? Do you have US catalogs from
1987-92? In particular, we need the catalogs "a parent's guide to the Lego
system".
It seems to me that the sets 317, 327 and 337 were US-only inclusive. I only
found them in one US catalog from 1987. But I found a MISB copy of 327 together
with a catalog from 1989. The bricks are 3002 and 3003. However, I have seen
few copies of 7735 and 7745 from 1989 coming with 3002old and 3003old. So I think
the bricks 3002 and 3003 appeared in US earlier than in Europe.
The photos of the MISB 327 are attached.

I forgot to add: a MISB copy of 7735 is about 800 Euro and since this set comes
in variations, we would need 3 copies of it (assuming that we know in advance
what variation we are buyinh)

I take it, then, that neither of us are wealthy and therefore must rely on the

Did I ever say how the qualities ended up being so good?
What is E&D?
I have heard of north-American S&H catalogs but I think it did never existed
elsewhere.

I am both wealthy and kind, but I am in it for the fame and glory and it isn't
clear to me how much of each I would get. I would feel a little guilt opening
a set that has been sealed for 30 years that may be someone's treasure some
day when there is nothing inside the box that someone has been wishing was available
on Bricklink.
