Here, I am trying to extend the limits and provide a new type of evidence to
support inventory change request:
I own two copies of
[p=BA17pb02]
I slightly pealed off their sticker and checked the bottom of the red slopes:
they were both 3040.

Nothing wrong with that and I applaud your initiative. What is the source of
both of your two assemblies?

If you recall we took the 3040 slope out of the inventory at your request on
March 7th, 2018:

I've no problem putting 3040 back in as an alternate, but we have a sealed
source for the inclusion of 3040a and I'd like to have some documentation
of the origin of the used parts on which you're basing the request.

I got one in a lot of three train sets: 7740, 7710 and 7822 from UK
For the other, I bought the set 7822 with box from Germany.
Of course, they were both used. The sealed one is very rare. That MISB one that
I found on Ebay was sold for 396 Euro.

My point is that the assembled part
[p=BA17pb02]
is kept in general like that after the sticker is applied to it for the first
time.

When I added 3040a in March 7th, I did not check where they were used in the
model. Once I realized that, I got this idea. Since I have two of them, I think
it is acceptable.
It is worth mentioning that the sets 7730 from 1980-82 also got 3040 in later
releases, so did the sets 7710 and 7740 released between 1980-84.
The MISB 7822 for the inv. change request in March 9th, was released in 1981.

So many parts were changed in 1981 (contact holes from 2 to 3, brick 3003, cones
with axle 3943, 3839a,...). I think this was the year TLG reviewed many parts
and improved them.
