I found the new variant in the set in my personal collection. This variant was not yet in the catalog when this set was inventoried. It's the only set that has the part in this color and it seems unlikely that Lego would produce both variants in a new color. Maybe viejos can confirm which variant was in the set that he used to submit the inventory.

I contacted viejos and he has confirmed that the parts in his set are the older
type, with the bar inset from the edge.
