I try to keep one inventory change request for each day. How many days in a row
we have got inventory change requests now?

This set is from 1983 so the early version hinges were used.

Otherwise, this blogger did our job easier. He opened a sealed set and took photos

If you use translater, he states that the bags were sealed (except some bigger
parts that did not come in a bag)
https://steinwurf.wordpress.com/2014/07/19/bahnhof-7824/

The relevent photos are (photos 1-3 attached):
https://steinwurf.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/7824-01.jpg

https://steinwurf.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/7824-04.jpg

We can see all red hinges and half of black hinges in the photo.
Note that this is not the earliest release of this set, even if the clips 4081a
are the earlier version. The earliest release of this set had a different kind
of box (4th photo attached):

I don't really keep track of that. You can find the information here, though:

https://www.bricklink.com/calendar.asp?v=C

It looks like the most recent day with no inventory requests approved was February
7th.

It's rather informative to look at the inventory change log. The original
inventory contained:

Part No: 4275 Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)
*
4275 Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)

Part No: 4276 Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)
*
4276 Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Hinge

On June 3, 2005, Mortimer changed these parts to:

Part No: 4275a Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
*
4275a Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End - Solid Studs

Part No: 4276a Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
*
4276a Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
Parts: Hinge

Then, on October 12, 2006, edk added the hollow stud parts back in as alternates.

Finally, on October 19, 2006, SimplyBricks deleted the solid stud parts and moved
the hollow stud parts back to regular.

Now you want to add the solid stud parts back in as regulars and move the hollow

Frankly, I'm not sure what else to say besides that is an awful lot of monkeying
around with an inventory. When do we decide that at some level this is all a
colossal exercise in futility?

Hi Robert

When the set came out in 1983, the solid studs were in. Set was available till
1990 (1991 start with the 9V sets). So mold changes during the time is common.

Maybe it's time for a new rule: what came out in the first release year.
Make all upgraded parts as alternate.

Good morning Stefaan,

On October 19, 2006, SimplyBricks deleted the solid stud parts. I don't know
why he/she did this and how this was accepted but currently the solid stud version
is not listed as regular nor as alternate. So I am trying to add it to this set.
I don't know which should be regular. I guess the one that came first is
the better option.

If you look at the color of the change boxes on that page you will see that some
are green and some are blue. Green boxes indicate changes submitted by members.
Blue boxes indicate changes made directly by an administrator.

The changes made by SimplyBricks are blue. That means that this person was an
administrator. That can be confirmed by going to this page:

https://www.bricklink.com/memberAdmins.asp

and clicking on the Hall of Fame link at the bottom. There you can see that
SimplyBricks was an inventories administrator from Aug 23, 2005 to Dec 11, 2014.

As for why changes were made, I don't know either.

I agree and will approve these requests.

To anyone reading this in the future, since these messages are permanently saved:
the finger hinges for this set have been moved around, added, and deleted in
nearly every possible way. They're fine now. Leave them alone.

Regardless of how often the inventory for this set has been changed in the past,
both hollow and closed studes on these hinges are possible to be in this set.
This means both versions should be included in the inventory, one as regular,
one as alternate. Since closed studes were the original when this set was released,
hollow studs were the "alternate" done by Lego themselves. There you have it.

Hello

This set was released between 1983-90. The inventory was corrected as you said.
The problem of hinges is that they started to appear with hollow studs since
1987 but I believe they were in production since 1985. Some sets such as 7823,
7735 and 7745 come with hinges. But I have never seen them in any auction with
hinges of solid studs. (except for, 7745 a couple of times with 2* gray 2-finger
hinges, but not the other hinges in this set)

My copy of 7823 from 1986 (catalogue!) came with hollowly studded hinges:

I totally agree on that.
But in general, I‘ve given up on this issue.
Correcting the inventories could be done so fast and smoothly, if admins would
choose a better process...

I am not really responsible in what happened before me. Those requests happened
in my dark ages. Here I give an evidence for solid holes. I do not have any evidence
for hollow studs ones. In future, if I find one, I will submit the photos.
On the side, I am sure about my request to have hollow studs as alternative.
Come on, this set was released until the end of 1990!
Generally speaking, this is my observation in watching items on sale for train
sets having hinges:

Concerning the hinges, this is what I have observed and believe to be correct:

The hinges came with
In 1983: 7727 & 7815 & 7838 & 7824
In 1985: 7722 & 7735 & 7745 & 7817
In 1986: 7823

The sets 7727 and 7815 were released between 1983-4. As far as I have checked
the used lots, all hinges coming with these sets were of solid studs. So we are
good hear. (or only one or two hinges were of hollow studs, giving the idea that
they were replaced or intermingled)

The sets 7722 & 7735 & 7745 & 7817 were released between 1985-90. I have checked
many copies of 7727, 7735 and 7745. I have not seen the hinges with hollow studs.
For 7722, the blue hinges are visible in the photos. If you google 7722, I don't
think you can find any photo of the blue hinges with solid studs. For 7735 and
7745, we are lucky to have the production date of the 12v motor. Again, even
those trains with motor produced in 1985, the hinges were of hollow studs!
I doubt that the hinges with solid studs came with these sets.
I seriously doubt the same for 7823 because this set was released in 1986-90.

The set 7838 was released between 1983-86 so there is a high chance that the
hinges with hollow studs came in the latest releases but this set is rare. I
don't think we can find a photo of MISB 7838 easily.

I know that the hinges with hollow studs started to appear in instructions since
1987 but It seems to me that they were in production since 1985.

What do you know about hinges?

4275 Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)

Part No: 4276a Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End - Solid Studs

4276a Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End - Solid Studs

Then, on October 12, 2006, edk added the hollow stud parts back in as alternates.

Finally, on October 19, 2006, SimplyBricks deleted the solid stud parts and moved
the hollow stud parts back to regular.

Now you want to add the solid stud parts back in as regulars and move the hollow

Frankly, I'm not sure what else to say besides that is an awful lot of monkeying

colossal exercise in futility?

Enough to get by, I reckon.

Thank you for sharing the information, though. I wasn't questioning your
requests or the knowledge behind them; I was merely commenting on the seeming
futility of all the changes which have been made for finger hinges in this set.

Perhaps a decade from now someone will come along and change them all around
again. Seems like a waste of time to me: the time of missourilego, of Mortimer,
of edk, of SimplyBricks, of me, of you, and of anyone who is reading this.

But that is an existential issue which is not relevant to the accuracy of the
inventory.

Some time ago, I made some changes to old space sets regarding these hinges.

Here are my findings: https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=221772

So 1985 is also the first year of hollow studs in my findings.

Good to know that I an not alone in believing that hinges with hollow studs appeared
first in 1985! Many say 1987.
The sets 7735, 7745 and 7817 fro; 1985 and 7823 and 7839 fro; 1986 are listed
with hinges with solid studs. I have failed seeing them on various auction sites
coming with hinges of solid stud (not even once)
My inventory change request to add hinges with hollow studs as alternative to
7735 from 1985-90 was rejected.

What do you know about hinges?

Some time ago, I made some changes to old space sets regarding these hinges.

Here are my findings: https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=221772

All I know are the release years of the sets, so actually I can't prove that
1985 is the year that the hollow studs made their first appearance. But they
show up in sets that were first released in 1985. My sets might be from a later
production. I don't how for how many years each set were produced.
