I understand changing bb12v to bb12va, but please post your reason for adding
bb12vb as an alternate for this set.

Here I explained many vital facts considering the motors. There are still few
things that we need to discover. But we can apply some changes as we have already
done so. If we discover the answer of those unknown things, then we can improve
the current inventories, however the current changes I asked considering 12v
motors are correct for sure.
For the record, I correct
| | Black type 4: 45 9 - (until 1983)
|
|
(until 1993)
To answer your question:
1) set 7760 released between 1980-1982
Motor type 1 (bb12v) was the first type of motor being release. So 7750 fist
came with it.
2) by checking the days craved underneath the motor, we know that there is a
motor type 2 (bb12vb) on 6th week of 1981. Whethere this is the earlies time
a motor type 2 is produced is not discovered yet.
It might have taken some time, let's say few months, from the time a motor
was produced, to it being inside a sealed train set in the shop for sale. But
but only few months. This is the case for the type 2 red motor(earliest date:
22th week in 1981; latest date we know: 39th week in 1982) that appeared in the
set 7727 from 1983.
But there is a far distance between 6th week of 1981 until the end of 1982. I
and others, have seen 7760 with type 2 (bb12vb) as we did with 7730, 7740.
What we don't know is if the type 3 (bb12vb) also appeared in 7760. This
is theoretically possible.
I bought an excellent lot, very neat one, in which the sticker sheets were still
new, not used. The box of 7760 was prime with all inner trays. In the lot, there
were 7740, 7760 and 2 copies of 7865. All motors included were type 2 and 3 (bb12vb).
This and other observations match with what I just said.
Unfortunately, there are not many sealed sets 7760 in the market. Brasletty have
one if she can provide a picture. (if we are lucky, the motor included in her
7760 might be of type 3, resolving one of mysteries )

Hi
The change from 2 to 3 pins is not only for the motor at that time.
More items changed and were used like the cable with 3 pin, the 12V light brick
2x2 etc...

| For future reference, I found a photo of a sealed 7760 with type 1 (bb12va) motor,
supporting my theory
Please check the contact holes.
