Based on the sets where the parts 3943a and 3943b are used, it seems that Lego produced the part 3943a in 1979 and sometime about 1981-2 replaced it with 3943b. So in first releazes of this set, the part 3943a was used. If possible, it would be better to have 3943a as the regular part. Later the part 3943b was used which is better to be as alternate.
I contacted few sellers on bricklink having this set sealed for sale. Only one seller (shop name: "Petes Parts") has the box opened and fortunately, the part 3943a was used, confirming my claim. He generously allowed me to use his photos and his message.
