Hello BrickLink Community,

The preview release of Instant Checkout is now available on https://preview.bricklink.com.
Please make sure to close all open BrickLink browser tabs before entering the
sandbox environment. You will also need to clear your cache when switching between
BrickLink and the preview site.

You will need to use the following PayPal account information to complete
transactions as a buyer:

PayPal Account ID : previewbuyer@bricklink.com
First name : BrickLink
Last name : TestBuyer
Password : bricklink_buyer

For Stripe credit card transactions, you will need to use the following card
details:

Credit card number: 4242 4242 4242 4242 (Visa)
Expiration date: Any entered will work
CVC: Any entered will work

New Shipping Methods tab in Store Settings:

You will see two tabs for shipping methods on the preview site: “Shipping Methods”
(the classic version) and “New Shipping Methods.” We kept both tabs for now so
that you can compare the two. Keep in mind that new shipping methods added on
the preview site will look differently on either tab since the new version has
many different fields – this is not a bug.

====================================

Please remember that there will be many technical issues and bugs during the
initial preview phase of Instant Checkout. We wanted to release the preview as
soon as possible so that you have plenty of time to get comfortable with the
new features and provide feedback.

Please send any issues, feedback, or requests to bugs@bricklink.com.

I wanted to give a special shout-out to one of our rockstar developers, Sydney,
for all of the effort (and far too much overtime) she has put into this project.

As always, we appreciate your continued support. We can’t wait to hear what you
think!

Will it be possible to use instant checkout for orders under 13 oz and wait to

Just by looking at it it appears you can select an instant checkout method for
13 oz and under, and keep the normal invoice for over 13, but without a test
order, I cannot absolutely confirm.

Without the ability to buy from myself to test things out, I honestly don't
know where to start.

The shipping options look fine for me, but I also can't find any way to place
a test order.

A solution is to partner up with another seller to test each shipping method.

Does anyone else have another solution?

Still no shipping method for US Priority Mail by weight/zone? I really want
to use the new system, but this is kind of a show-stopper.

Yes! Exactly. For those of us that use Stamps (and I assume Endicia), we are
able to make a lot more choices in how we ship our Priority Mail orders to bring
costs down for the buyers. I also get Commercial Plus rates, so I need to be
able to make my own custom chart that includes weights and zones. I use a combination
of padded flat rate, medium and large flat rate, regional A & B flat rate (by
zone), regular weight and zone, and even cubic dimensional weight (smaller box
ships for less even if heavy).

I know Constructibles has a slick form on their splash page where you can enter
your zip code and cart weight to get a shipping estimate.

If you look at my terms page, you can see the effort I have taken to make a chart
of the lowest actual price shipping. Even then I sometimes pay less on less bulky
orders and sometimes eat the shipping cost on orders that are bulkier than anticipated.
The shipping chart I have posted next to my computer is actually even more complicated
than the craziness on my terms page.

I know that this is a concern only for US stores, but 1/3 of the stores on BrickLink
are in the USA.

This doesn't seem to be working. I logged into it to test, but I got automatically
logged out before getting to the checkout window. And when I try to log back
in again, it doesn't accept the username and password. Is this happening
because there are multiple people trying to use this test account simultaneously?

Looks good for my store! I set up the automated checkout then closed out the
browser and restarted the browser, cleared the cache and returned to my store.

I added 100 1x1 bricks to my cart, which was over my minimum buy. The checkout
process correctly added on $3 for shipping (under 8 oz). The final step provided
the link to paypal and took me there directly to make a payment.

My store is small and I just went through my inventory last month to confirm
counts. So my first question would be what steps should we take to correct an
inventory error?

Currently, we can adjust the invoice amount as needed. But once the buyer has
paid, it would be cost prohibitive to refund a missing 5c part.

Thanks,

Frank

Why would it be cost prohibitive? It's easy, quick, and completely free to
refund anywhere from $0.01 to the entire amount via PayPal using their partial-refund
system. I get tiny partial refunds on probably 1/3 of the orders I make because
of missing pieces, and I give them occasionally if I'm missing something

I added 100 1x1 bricks to my cart, which was over my minimum buy. The checkout
process correctly added on $3 for shipping (under 8 oz). The final step provided
the link to paypal and took me there directly to make a payment.

My store is small and I just went through my inventory last month to confirm
counts. So my first question would be what steps should we take to correct an
inventory error?

Currently, we can adjust the invoice amount as needed. But once the buyer has
paid, it would be cost prohibitive to refund a missing 5c part.

Thanks,

Why would it be cost prohibitive? It's easy, quick, and completely free to
refund anywhere from $0.01 to the entire amount via PayPal using their partial-refund

of missing pieces, and I give them occasionally if I'm missing something
or something is a little damaged.

I know this is off topic, but:
One third of the orders you place arrive with missing pieces?! Yikes! I really
hope that is not indicative of sellers as a whole. My error rate is around 1%
(1 in 100 orders has a problem) and it's usually because I sent the wrong
part, not because I omitted a part.

Total orders: 26
Orders with a refund before shipping: 5 (2 with missing or wrong parts)
Orders with a coin instead of parts: 1
Orders with missing or wrong parts: 10
Orders without errors or refund: 12

Not counting errors in my favor (most often 101 1x1 plates instead of 100 and
the like).

Size of order isn’t significant (avg nbr of lots: 78, avg nbr of parts/MF: 1478).
Sellers’ feedback (quantity, quality, messages) isn’t significant.

I’d like to keep using the best sellers (even some who made mistakes) but they
don’t always have the parts I need.

I don’t report ±1% errors to sellers, unless there are other errors and the parts
are “big” (2x2 or bigger).

I buy mainly new parts. The errors I counted in the previous message were:
whole lots missing (most frequent),
many parts missing in the lot (frequent),
wrong part (not wrong variant) (a couple),
whole lot the wrong color (once),
or left-thing instead or right-thing (or vice versa) (twice).

BTW, I’ve had exactly zero Order Item Removal Request, sellers generally just
add a credit on the invoice or refund.
Doesn’t anyone use OIRRs?

I usually throw. In a few extras on large lots and indicate it on the baggies
(+2, +3, etc) so the buyer knows I'm aware. It's always nice when a
buyer lets you know about an error (even one in their favor) so that you can
adjust your inventory accordingly. I got burned one time when I came up short
on a small lot. After some detective work I realized I had sent twice as many
of this part to a previous buyer than he ordered. He had to have known he got
extra. It was still my fault, of course, but a simple heads up from the buyer
would have been nice.

If I'm in doubt on item count (because of using a counting scale), I either
throw in a few extra or also count what's left in my inventory to make sure
it matches what I'm supposed to have left.

I also appreciate it when a customer tells me about an obvious mistake in their
favor. It's no fun to pull an order 6 months later and realize you don't
have the parts.

I once filled an order for 1000 of one lot, having to split the pieces between
two bags. Got a message saying, "I wanted you to know you made an error in my
order. You only put 496 in one bag, but the other bag had 504, so it all came
out OK." I wanted to reply back that it wasn't an error, but I didn't
want to rudely question a customer. I hope I wasn't put on their least favorite
list because they thought I made a mistake.

I was actually referring to about a 33% rate of at least one item being missing
from the seller's inventory between order and shipment, so I get the refund
on the invoice or immediately before shipment. But unfortunately, the error rate
on my orders is almost that high. I don't have exact statistics, but it's
about 20% of my orders arrive with at least one incorrect/missing piece or severe
damage (strong smoke smell, obvious bite marks, etc).

I think that's due to a few factors: First, instead of making orders one
at a time, I save up my Wanted List for months and order thousands of pieces
from dozens of sellers at once. So the majority of those problematic orders are
just one incorrect piece out of hundreds. Second, I'm very detail-oriented
and always catch small mold differences or small color differences like Flat
Silver/Pearl Light Gray. Third, I have high standards -- as a seller, I've
only been notified of a missing/incorrect piece twice over hundreds of orders
on BL and other platforms. Fourth, I always contact sellers and politely ask
for a refund/replacement, whereas I think many buyers avoid it because they're
non-confrontational or don't think it'll help or don't want to complain
about one incorrect $0.10 piece.

Honestly, I think most of these mistakes could be avoided if sellers simply double-checked
orders before mailing them. I always do, and I don't really buy into the
"I'm too busy" excuse. If a person has time to sell Lego -- or anything
else, really -- they should have time to do some Quality Assurance.

Yes! This right here is key! I've caught numerous mistakes on a double-check.
It really doesn't take that much extra time if you lay everything out before
packing it. I also double-check that I have the correct number of lots before
putting anything in a box--I've caught a few mistakes that way too.

What the double check does not do is find the mistakes that are vision related:

You pick the order based on the colour of the item ... not really looking at
the description beside it ... and you fail to do so as you double check ...
being more focused on quantity than colour at that point.

You pick the quantity remaining rather than the quantity ordered... and whatever
caused you to do it the first time, invariably causes you to do it the second
time as well.

Sadly, those type of errors happen and mostly can be easily fixed when pointed
out by kind buyers but we are all human and will make mistakes ...it's how
both the buyer and seller deal with the error that counts.

There are also count errors caused by sorting errors. I use a counting scale
for large quantities. It has made my orders much more accurate. BUT if there
is a pieces sorted into the lot that shouldn't be there, it messes with the
weight, which messes with the count. Which is why I usually try to weigh the
remaining inventory to check myself. If it's off, the first thing I look
for are the rogue pieces: sometimes same color/size that we didn't see while
sorting, sometimes a 1x1 tile hiding inside a brick. I've also been initially
short on a piece that I found by knowing what set it came from and which piece
it could have been mixed with.

I count my orders into trays that have 10 slots each and don't pack until
I'm done with all the lots. It makes it super easy to double check your lot
count and color/quantity.

Most of our errors are caused by trying to do high lot/low quantity orders too
quickly. That's why I have a note in my terms that higher lot counts will
take longer. If I'm tired and rushed to get to the post office on time, I'm
going to get sloppy. I'd rather put off the order until tomorrow morning.

Well, that's assuming it's a PayPal order. This is a problem, yes. The
way I solve it over at BrickOwl is by adding refunds as cash in the order. However,
coins are heavy so it may mess up the shipping rate.. moreover, the buyer loses
the option to cancel the order when he learns something is not available. This
is all a bit tedious. Instant checkout has many advantages, but this right here
is a real advantage of non-instant check-out.

  Hello BrickLink Community,

The preview release of Instant Checkout is now available on https://preview.bricklink.com.
Please make sure to close all open BrickLink browser tabs before entering the
sandbox environment. You will also need to clear your cache when switching between
BrickLink and the preview site.

transactions as a buyer:

We can’t wait to hear what you
think!

Does the weight include the weight of the shipping materials? A padded envelope
may only add 1 oz but if the order needs a box how does the weight work into
the calculation? Just checking.
Sometimes buyers ask about the shipping cost because they only see that the order
weight 13-15 ounces but they do not take into consideration the weight of the
mailer and now we are at 14-16 ounces and the difference is 1st class to priority
mail. Just checking.

initial preview phase of Instant Checkout.

We can’t wait to hear what you

Also, will my automatic link to PayPal still work when I invoice an order or
do I have to use the new checkout procedure. Once again just checking so I know.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Your overall point is fine, but First Class Mail has been available up to 16.49
ounces for 2 1/2 years now.

The preview release of Instant Checkout is now available on https://preview.bricklink.com.
Please make sure to close all open BrickLink browser tabs before entering the

There's an awful lot to fill in for each screen/choice. I'm just going
to do manual invoicing for now until I know Canada Post better.

First bug I noticed was the update cart button does not update the shipping price
and the grand total until you hit checkout.

Also sent to bugs@ email.

Jaclyn and the rest of the BL instant checkout team,

Will this instant checkout work with custom instructions that weight nothing?
Currently, majority of my business on BL is selling electronic instructions and
there is no shipping involved. Having instant checkout would eliminate the unnecessary
step of sending an invoice.

My question is, how will BL handle electronic delivery items that do not need
shipping calculation? Related to this, it would be nice to designate these items
as such. Currently, they have no weight assigned to them, since 0 is not allowed.

I know, this is a bit out of the norm, but I am not the only one doing this on
BL.

I was not able to test the new preview platform, probably due to not clearing
my cache, since I am in middle of other things and clearing cache would mess
those up, I think.

I posted a new thread in the Suggestion topic for my problem that I would liked
addressed from above.

Looks nice, elaborate options and still intuitive to use. Thank you so far
(A clear break with the traditional Bricklink philosophy of bombarding the screen
with peripheral options you never need ). Works nicely together with the rate
calculation system, which so far I found to be pretty accurate. (Even though
it still needs some work: Last time I checked it, it seemed to be using stud
dimensions of parts rather than physical packaging dimensions, which can have
large discrepancies for curved and angular parts.)

Am I right though there's no way to really charge PayPal fees? I see I could
enter them, but not in relationship to the chosen payment method. It would be
nice if this was still possible, and it would make my legal administration easier
as well; I like the amount of money made per product to remain constant regardless
of payment conditions.

In my store I offer discount for payment with bank transfer but ran into the
same problem as you. There does not seem to be an option to have fees or discounts
for specific payment methods.

In addition to that, it would be nice if currencies could be restriced to specific

would be nice if payment in USD could be disabled for bank transfer/IBAN payments.

And maybe also allow payment methods to only be available for some shipping methods.
For example, I allow cash payment only for local pickup. So I don't want
it to be available for other shipping methods.

If it uses stud dimensions, does it know the difference between the following
items?

Part No: 29541 Name: Brick, Soft 2 x 4
*
29541 Brick, Soft 2 x 4
Parts: Soft Bricks

Part No: 48201 Name: Quatro Brick 2 x 4
*
48201 Quatro Brick 2 x 4
Parts: Quatro

Part No: x1446 Name: Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
*
x1446 Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
Parts: Jumbo Bricks

Part No: 3011 Name: Duplo, Brick 2 x 4
*
3011 Duplo, Brick 2 x 4
Parts: Duplo, Brick

Part No: 3001 Name: Brick 2 x 4
*
3001 Brick 2 x 4
Parts: Brick

Part No: Mx1142L Name: Modulex Brick 2 x 4 (Lego on studs)
*
Mx1142L Modulex Brick 2 x 4 (Lego on studs)
Parts: Modulex, Brick

An order consisting of a few of these bricks should result in different shipping
methods.

I tested the large bricks to see. None of them should fit under 2cm, which is
the Canada Post restriction for Lettermail or Light Packet. A regular 3001 does
fit.

Thank you for testing this!
Then it looks like the system really does use studs for the calculation, without
taking into account that the "stud size" depends on the system used.

Sadly, we have been warning about this for a long time ... :'

Yes, each time instant-checkout has been discussed, and when shipping cost suggestion
was deployed.

But we’re all just fear-mongering and grumpy old farts who don’t like change
(while calling for it) and all will be clear and perfect when it will arrive
(except it has arrived and it’s far from clear or workable).

It is a step in the right direction. A lot of the features seem to work.

Changing the size calculations from studs to a real unit is a simple programming
fix. *All* we need is a catalog update that allows to gather actual "packing
size" information. That could solve all the dimension problems mentioned in this
thread.

- size of instructions
- packing size of parts like 30134 and 30562
- different stud systems

The size unit chosen is a major error, but the calculations that use this incorrect
input seem to work.

Volunteers could have made a significant dent in dimensional info had BL made
it possible a few months ago. It is rather unfortunate that BL didn't plan
that out. Especially, since there are thousands of items that don't conform
to standard brick sizes.

It is a step in the right direction. A lot of the features seem to work.

Yes, but all the questions that were raised and suggestions that were made, several
times, are being raised and made again now.
A lot of time, work, and grumpiness could have been avoided.

This field has been suggested many times many months ago (even years), and you
know it because you were there.
I don’t believe BL will add this field.

You’re too kind to BL to still give them the benefit of the doubt while they
proved time after time that they always do it their way, especially when BLers
told them repeatedly it was the wrong way.

People asked “how will you do this, there’re such and such situations to account
for?”
There was no answer.
Some said “it’s okay, let them work.” And it’s right, criticizing before it was
developped was unfair. (Questionning wasn’t, but some people don’t know the difference.)

Now, it’s in Beta.

They said it took so long because they wanted to include all the quirks of BL’s
invoicing.
(That means fees, which, IMHO, would have been better gotten rid of than kept.)
And, oh surprise, it appears the more legitimate fees (sale taxes by ZIP code,
mode of payment fees/discounts, to name recent threads) aren’t satisfyingly implemented
(or at all).

There’ll be “bugs and kinks are okay for a Beta, they’ll be corrected”-excuses.
Okay, the Wanted List was corrected, somewhat. But it took time, there’re still
bugs, and some still rile against it.
But here, that kind of excuse is not acceptable because it’s not about understanding
how the old page was used (duh! it’s a totally new feature), or about new or
corner cases, it’s about wrong design decisions which have been discussed ad
nauseam.

But again, it’s okay, because BLers are just know-it-alls (and it’s true sometimes,
e.g. me). So it’s okay not to listen to them, especially when they’re right.

Rant over. After all, it only helps me venting some hot air.

It is a step in the right direction. A lot of the features seem to work.

Yes, but all the questions that were raised and suggestions that were made, several
times, are being raised and made again now.
A lot of time, work, and grumpiness could have been avoided.

I completely understand the rant. I also recognise the feelings about how BL
deals with the users who submit bug reports.

I am just trying to see the positive points also.

Thank you for testing this!
Then it looks like the system really does use studs for the calculation, without
taking into account that the "stud size" depends on the system used.

Not quite. Marc tested a quattro and a Duplo brick, and they were both rejected.
So it seems there is some sort of "mixed" process, where some oversized items
have corrected dimensions, but not all. The ones that got missed (the soft and
the jumbo bricks) were apparently falling back to a studs-dimensions calculation.

Do they use a stud calculation IF no 3D model is available in Stud.io?

Of the parts listed, only 3001 is in Stud.io / LDraw.

Sadly, we have been warning about this for a long time ... :'

Yep! Well, I have been monitoring the shipping cost suggestion for a while and
usually it's quite accurate. It will be OK

But I think this is a really precarious and principal issue, as shipping size
is relevant only for some sellers, and bugs will only hit some sellers, sellers
who might depend on this site to make a living. The way the BL team has been
silent about this and not allowed for any community input on the database (which
inevitably has mistakes), is in my opinion actually inappropriate and rude. It's
like breaking up only one part of a market street without notice or plan and
not fixing it properly. I do think there are outstanding members of the BL team
who have done great work for this system, and it works really well. But not perfect,
which it should, since sellers who do not have size based shipping methods also
have a perfect system. We should never have unfair competition based on website
issues.

The database needs to be open and allow community input! There is alot of work
to be done, as there are no packing dimensions (physical size), only upright
XYZ dimensions (functional size). That means there is still a huge batch of figures
to be added, checked, and double checked.

Yes, esp. for parts which come in cardboard sleeves like strings, capes, rubber
bands

You can ship a few hundred of each within given dimension requirements if they
are loose, but not if they are still packed. I usually don't unpack them
and i assume a lot of sellers won't.

It is just too big)

The Canada Post 2.0 cm rule is very restrictive.

====================================

We can’t wait to hear what you
think!

-Team BrickLink

I noticed that the settings page for the new shipping methods has a map showing
the number of countries that I ship to, but this map only shows the countries
that are selected for a shipping method. When you have a zone for everywhere
else it should show that you ship to all countries. I also emailed this to the
bugs mail address.

This is looking good, quite similar to BO in the way that shipping bands can
be set based on value, weight etc.

One question for me though, under "Restrictions and Adjustment", where we can
set the maximum dimensions for the postal rate, where does this data come from?
Do all parts and items have data for size, and if not, what does it default to?

Saved me asking exactly the same things. This is the key issue for me to understand.
Currently we offer a £2 minimum purchase and the UK 1st class postage on those
is either £0.98 or £3.40 depending on the combined size/shape of item(s) ordered.
We cannot be charging £0.98 on these small orders and it costing us £3.40, it
is just not viable for us. I sent a message to Admin with pretty much these exact
questions after the 1st communication about this autocheckout solution, as yet
no response. @admin - this is a critical issue for UK, we need to know how it
works please.

Either way, we still intend to offer autocheckout as an option to our customers,
it just won't be on low value orders if this size restriction doesn't
replicate RoyalMail's pricing.

I did some tests on the preview site and it seems to work well within the size
restrictions I set up for shipping as PostNL letter. So I suggest setting up
your shipping method in the preview site and testing if it also works for UK

The main size issue is actually parts that can be shipped as letter, but instant
checkout won't offer letter is option on checkout. For example

Part No: 30562 Name: Cylinder Quarter 4 x 4 x 6
*
30562 Cylinder Quarter 4 x 4 x 6
Parts: Cylinder
which is probably listed in the system as 3.2 x 3.2 cm width and depth, but you
can lay it flat to make it fit within the maximum 3.2 cm thickness (including
packing materials). There are other parts with the same issue, for example

Part No: 30134 Name: Stairs 7 x 4 x 6 Straight Open
*
30134 Stairs 7 x 4 x 6 Straight Open
Parts: Stairs

Do all parts and items have data for size, and if not, what does it default to?

+1

Robert

Thanks, that is helpful! I guess the issue is how many exceptions there will
be. What about instructions and other items that don't have any dimensions
though? Yes I will of course do some setup and testing for our store/UK, it would
just be really helpful if BL told us how it is designed to work with the items
that have no dimensions.. e.g. can we set it up so those default to manual invoicing?

I've confirmed that both those parts provide "incorrect" packing dimensions.
In Canada, parts need to be less than 2cm for the best rate. Both of these parts
should qualify, but neither of them do. (I also increased the maximum size for
the shipping method to 2.8 cm, and they both still failed.)

I've done a few tests and it all seems to work OK for large letter vs parcel.
I'm just wondering why it works. Partly because it would be useful
to understand if there will be anything non-standard that I haven't tested
for where it will not work. There are errors in my favour, as paulvdb has noted
- large parts that can be turned around slightly to reduce the dimensions.

Sounds promising, yes the "why" is key to my understanding of the setup too.
Errors "in your favour" are not in your favour if they loose you an order but
you could give a guarantee to buyers that such overcharges would be refunded..
this won't be obvious in a wanted list result though. I'm not going to
be able to get into big testing for a couple of days due to family visiting but
the scenario I'm most interested in is lowish value orders containing a mix
of instruction books and parts.. e.g. an A4 size instruction book (or multiple
copies of) plus a lot of odd parts or bricks where the parts would qualify for
large letter but not if 1/3 of the 25mm thickness is taken up by the instructions
- we get quite a lot of those sort of orders. If I knew an instruction book or
other "odd" item with no system dimension in a small order could result in a
bounce to manual invoicing then I would be 95% confident in saying it's going
to work well enough for us with little change to terms. On the other hand I'm
not ruling out changes to terms either; just need to get to that decision point
on it.

Yeah, I meant that I wouldn't lose on postage due to automation. Although
in my experience, whenever someone is ordering something that size from me, chances
are it will be an order that is a parcel anyway.

I tend not to sell instructions anyway (although I do buy them) but it will be
interesting to see how they are handled. I'd probably buy more if I knew
what the postage would be on them, as these are often cheap items with high postage.
And they are much easier to use than the online versions.

Size of instructions seems to be overestimated. I tried with the instructions
book for 71016. It would let me ship as letter if I buy one, but when I add a
second to my cart it will change to parcel even though two of them should easily
fit in the maximum thickness that can be shipped as letter in The Netherlands.

Hello Instant-Checkout-Bricklink-Team,

I have tried now the new system with the shipping methods and it is working well
for me. I could add different packag sizes with size and weight restrictions.
During the checkout process with the test user it has shown always correct data.

Wonderful - I love it.

Later this day I'll send to you a small bug list what I have found.

Best regards,
Oliver.

In previous sandboxes, you had to do any changes all again once it went live.
The test area was just a test area. So I wouldn't spend too much time on
getting everything just right as yet. But it is certainly worth getting together
all the information you want to change, weighing your standard packaging, etc.

I noticed these two bugs (and have mailed them to the bugs email address):

In the shipping methods tracking options cannot be removed. After you click to
save changes they come back.

On my store terms page all my shipping methods are listed under domestic and
no shipping methods are listed for international buyers.

I have deleted all cookies & history, I think that is what is meant by cache
but I am not the most technical person, but when I go to the link/sandbox area
I get a page that says this is not a safe page. Is this just my antivirus? I
go past that anyway and I just get a BL page for the mosaic or buying Legos.
Is this normal? I cannot find the Checkout setup area. If I do not set up the
auto checkout can I still invoice orders like I have been? Thank you in advance.

One thing I am wanting (really need, actually) is whether I can "blacklist" items
to auto-checkout. I sell custom 9V and RC switches, trackwork in general, I don't
really want those items to be auto-able. I would like to be able to double check
the items, check with the buyer (sometimes they ask for more switches than I
have available, make a change to piece, etc.) so simply having the buyer be able
to auto pay for something like that would greatly complicate things for me.
Part of this stems from an issue from before where the system did not take the
weight I had entered, and so if that were the case, the calculated shipping cost
would be off. It seems to be working right now though, just did a test order
in the sandbox.
So, is there a way to set certain items to make auto-checkout not available for
the cart that they are in? I know I can state that certain items are to be manual
invoicing only, but if they ignore that, what am I going to do? Refund? Get a
second payment for the extra items, etc.?

Any ideas...?

Thanks,
Miles (C0lsanders_)

  Hello BrickLink Community,

The preview release of Instant Checkout is now available on https://preview.bricklink.com.

One feature that I do not see that will cause problems is "order combining" like
on the other site. The way this works is that if a buyer places a second order
(batch) before the first one is locked (by status packed/shipped) then the system
will offer the OPTION to the buyer to combine them. If the buyer wants the orders
combined, then the system adds the weight and dimensions of the two orders together,
recalculates the postage, and subtracts the postage paid on the first order.

For example, in the US if buyer placed an order that was 3oz, the postage would
be $2.61. If they added a second order for another 3oz, the combined postage
would be $2.77. So the system would charge $0.16 postage on the second order.

There would need to be a visual indicator on the orders page that multiple orders
are combined together.

Also, since PayPal charges a $0.30 fee per transaction, there should be the ability
to charge the buyer a fee (set by the seller) for every order addition that they
make.

So in the current preview version, if this were to happen for a seller setup
on instant checkout, the buyer would be forced to pay $2.61 in postage for each
order, and the seller would manually have to refund the postage difference.

My concern here is that this may hurt sales. Currently its very easy to "upsell"
additional parts to buyers, and its a good convenience feature for those buyers
that realize they need more parts after an order is already placed. If they
don't have an easy option available like they do today with order batches,
then they will be discouraged from adding to open orders

Jaclyn and team you should run some quick statistics to see how many orders have
more than one batch so you can see what the potential impact here is.

Thanks. -Jason

The buyer test account appears to be set up in another country, and I only ship
domestic. I get a no payment method accepted for international buyer message
when attempting to checkout. Is there a way around this?

Hi there,

The buyer test account is set up for the USA, which should be considered domestic
for your account.

====================================

We can’t wait to hear what you
think!

It's been over a month since the preview was released. What is the estimated
time for the instant checkout to be implemented?

Just read through most of this and looked at the test site.

I will admit first off that I am an old fuddy duddy and hate change.

Now my rant. The only person who wins with this is the USPS. There is no way
Bricklink will be able to tell if a 1 pound 8 ounce order will fit into a flat
rate envelope and ship for $6.44 or packed into a box with a shipping cost of
up to $9.15. Additionally being a commercial shipper we use a lot of regional
rate boxes which can save a buyer $4-$10 on an order in just shipping charges,
again Bricklink will never be able to anticipate when an order will fit into
a regional rate box A or B or not. International shipping with size limits for
letter parcels will be tough to tell, can you order 100 2x4 bricks and pack them
flat or will instant shipping say it is a parcel and charge nearly $10 more for
the shipping? With many of our good long term customers we will routinely discount
international shipping anywhere from $1-$10 depending on the customer and size
of the order. For over 11 years we have been selling here and getting close
to gross sales hitting 7 figures with our basic premise of no handling fees,
no limits of any kind (except $3.00 minimum buy) and charging exact postage.

With the way instant checkout looks to work we will have to err on the high side
and end up doing a lot of refunding of shipping fees. We will have to charge
the max postage in order for us to not lose money and if we can ship it cheaper
send a refund. Also for large parts that may not weigh much but have sharp edges
and will cut through an envelope will have to be boxed and postage will be higher.
With many international orders there may be one large part that kicks the shipping
up to parcel rates. Send a quick message to the buyer telling them if they want
to remove the part it could save them $8.00 in shipping. But with the instant
checkout we will never have this chance to "save" an order.

How will Bricklink address these challenges?

Again for the lowest shipping cost instant is not the way to do it.

Regards,

Rick Abrew

Still no estimated date of implementing? I can see that no one received an answer
for this question in last two months. I feel like we are being ignored

Best regards,
