Hello

I suggest to ban selling custom parts from bricklink that aren't official
LEGO parts.
LEGO guarantee for quality of their parts and we can't know of what kind
of plastic are made custom parts. Plastic maybe toxic or another way harmful.
And what guarantee we have that those parts aren't from fake LEGO brands
like Lepin or similar.
Let those fake parts be on ebay and other sites, let bricklink be just for LEGO
and not for "Lego".

Cheers
Marko

I see this is still being discussed and has been discussed over so long, now
if you wanted to ban items that are duplicate of LEGO items I might be behind
it, but alas LEGO does not make all things many seek to obtain and custom parts
makers do fill that niche, while also giving good quality items.

So, any piece that Tyco or Megablocks make which Lego hasn't, should be fair
game?

no since I consider Tyco and Megablock competition with LEGO while customizers
and their parts are not, they accentuate LEGO.

I would love it if BrickLink would block all replicas of LEGO items.

This is an old argument and it will never be implemented because there is money
to be made off this kind of part. People here know about it, but those that
put them on ebay and other venues can purposely, or by lack of knowledge, fool
others. There is a lot of parts that have been chromed or have been fabricated
as weapons. Where does the non-official parts stop? Why can I not take a megablock
3x5 plate, grind off the studs, paint it and sell it as a custom part? Why are
individuals allowed to change parts and megablocks are forbidden? So, a person
can do it, but a corporation cannot while under the law a corporation is considered
an individual or something like that. Follow the dollar bill or the Won.

I don't know if you are referring to BrickLink as the ones wanting to make
the money off of these parts but if you are I don't think it is true because
the money they make off of them is sooo small that it would hardly affect their
bottom line.

I think Rick above stated the argument why Meagablock and the like are not allowed
but why custom parts are (including colored Lego parts) when he stated - "I
consider Tyco and Megablock competition with LEGO while customizers and their
parts are not, they accentuate LEGO" - I think this sums up the whole reason
why BrickLink allows custom parts but not Megablock. They want to keep this site
dedicate to Lego but they do allow the custom parts for the sake of the builders
but not for the sake of their bottom line.

Sure, except that those smaller producers are also in competition with Lego,
so the argument doesn't add up. Ask yourself this: would the "customizers"
prefer that you buy their part, or the Lego one? If they'd rather you buy
theirs, then they are in competition with Lego. (And, if they'd rather you
buy the Lego one, then why are they producing anything?)

They are smaller competitors, but they ARE competitors.

I just requested adding Sbrick and SBrick Plus Bluetooth command devices, they
are not from Lego, but much better ! It all depands, so bricklink should propose
anything convenient, compatible with normal Lego pieces, toxic ones or not convenient
ones are illegal in EJFJ State, not only on bricklink, and no one should waste
anything while considering them! Only the best is legal, bricklink.com is a nice
solution (international reference norm)...

Sbricks have no place in the catalog. It doesn't matter how neat they may
be.

Don't like that at all

I (and several others here) sell OFFICIAL but unreleased LEGO parts that's
100% genuine LEGO. They come straight from Billund and may - or may not - contain
dangerous plastic. That's on TLG's shoulders

Since they're not in the catalogue I can only sell them as "custom parts"

And since I find it highly enjoyable to get 100EUR for a single brick, I'd
hate to see ALL custom parts banned. However, I have no love for 3rd party stuff
like Brickarms, custom capes/flags etc and there's no need to even talk about
TYCO/Lepin etc

Cheers,

Ole

That wouldn't count as a custom brick though, it's made by LEGO.

OK, didn't know LEGO build custom parts, off catalog stuff. That's different
"pair of sleeves". And think that that parts can easy be checked, they have letters
LEGO marks. TLG guarantee for plastic and print that are not toxic and harmful.

I was referring to fake LEGO brands and custom parts build in "garage". I don't
say that there's no quality custom parts, but who can say that this and this
custom part is of good quality and this and this isn't (and everything that
came with it; durability, paint peeling, what king of plastic and paint, how
safe are for kids to play with them...). All sellers of those parts will write
that their parts are high quality.
Example, you all heard of custom minifigs from Christo7108, that are praised.
But he has some custom parts (and prints) that are copied by others like Sheng
Yuan (fake Lego brand), like Flash's helmet (SY269), see pics.
I'm for banning all, as 1974 write, 3rd party stuff.
