| Please make changes to the following inventory:
* Delete 1 Part x127c31 Black String with End Studs 31L Overall (Extra)
Comments from Submitter:
I Parted out 6 sets. None of them had an extra string. Sokolean must have made a mistake, or his one set had an extra string by accident.

My set had an extra string, also, and I am on a different continent. Therefore,
I do not think it is a fluke. Also, this part has appeared many times as an extra
since 2013. See the bottom of http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=x127c31&in=S

Well, the change request is rejected. All 6 sets I had didn't have an extra
string though. So I am 100% a lot of sellers listed to many strings parting out
these sets, like I had.

If two independent sources say the sets they inventoried had an extra string,
then that would be pretty strong evidence at least some sets carried this extra
part.
The part is defined in the set as an "extra", and as you (should) know these
extras are not guaranteed by anyone. People parting out sets should check what
they part out, _especially_ the extras.
I don't see why this would be an issue.
Niek.

This is why there is an option during partout to *not include* extras. The extras
section is for items whose presence is variable. If sellers do not wish to check
their extras manually, they should not include extras during the partout process,
plain and simple. It is an exchange of convenience for slightly less profit.
And by the way, retaining extras in the inventory that are found to not be in
every copy has been the policy of the site ever since the extras feature was
implemented, so it shouldn't come as a surprise.

I know of this option and understand the meaning of it, but so far it didn't
give any problems. All sets I ever checked and / or parted out had the very same
extra parts.
This is the first set in my hands that is different from the BL-inventory.
But when this is how it works, so be it.
Good luck for all the sellers who can't deliver ordered strings.

It's not unusual for sets to have different extras in different productions
runs, especially if they are in production for a long time. For examples sets
that started production before the 1x1 plates (part 3024) were included as extra
parts. Later production runs of those sets will have the extra 1x1 plates and
they are listed as extra parts in the Bricklink inventory.
