* Change {60 to 50} Part Red 3700 Technic, Brick 1 x 2 with Hole
Comments from Submitter:
2002 Education catalog shows 50 parts for exact same set number. This set does not appear in later catalogs (checked in 2003, 2008, and 2009 catalogs). Either part count changed, catalog I have is wrong, or Admin made an error. He lists inventory source as description (a description which he himself created) and I have solid evidence of a 50-piece count. I would upload a photo to document, but I have been banned from adding images today because I hit the 50-image limit. I'll submit a catalog change request for the set title.

One of the first things Jen and I asked for was a way to bypass the admin auto-approval.
For sure it is the culprit for many of the mistakes we are still fixing years
later.
appears in a 2002 catalog with the exact same set number and contents. Since
it appeared this early, then it did not have LBG parts. How would that be handled
in the inventory? Alternate items with the older color?

Thanks.
I would change it to Light Gray and if someone comes along with a copy in LBG
we can add it as an alternate. Lego Education is typically behind the mainstream
when it comes to changes, and I have been told they keep their own stock. This
past January (2015) someone reported getting a set from them with Old Brown parts.

I would say in the case of these 4 sets Admin's original entries and inventories
are not good enough to withstand editing. As always, if we get more information
later on, we can look at doing something differently.

I looked through some catalogs and confirmed Dan's entry for all four sets.
I have just uploaded a photo of this set which is missing a photo.

In the case of the red 1 x 2 bricks set referenced, I couldn't find it in
any of my catalogs with that part count and Maggie didn't see it in her catalogs
when she looked. Not to say it didn't exist, but there was no evidence for
it (hence the changes requested).

Well that certainly changes things. Some of those entries are also missing year
of release and large images.
I don't know if I still have that one, but I'll check my collection.
There are some sites out there with Dacta material, and I also know some folks
who have almost everything. The problem always is time. Once I start digging
into catalogs, by the time I've found what I'm looking for, I rediscover
another 4 or 5 projects I had been working on before.

The LEGO Education site has a somewhat active forum, as well. It's primarily
aimed at educators using the sets in the classroom, but educators in general
are a helpful bunch. Love to answer questions.

I've found the set showing 50 red bricks in 2000, 2001, 2002. But look on
page 107 of your 2003 catalog. Mine shows 60 *black* bricks for this set number.
My 2004 - 2008 catalogs show the black bricks in a different set numbered 970632
with 60 bricks at first but then with 50 bricks from 2005 on. The LEGO Ed /
Dacta sets are notorious for undergoing changes over their lifespans.

Found it. Yep, mine shows the same thing. I hadn't noticed that.

I've noticed that. How should these sets be accurately cataloged? Additional
notes? Inventory changes? Leave them alone?
I ask in all seriousness because I don't want to waste my time or the time
of catalog and inventory admins.
Well, for one thing we could remove the number of bricks from the description.
I wonder if we should remove the color too (even though it appears that for
most of the set's life there were indeed 50 red bricks).
I probably differ from most people, but I think there are too many Educational/Dacta
sets as it is. Adding additional set entries to cover every possible variation
seems like a bit much for my tastes.
I believe in having a comprehensive catalog, but if that can be achieved with
a single entry which describes the possible variations and instructs sellers
to mention those in the listing, then I think that would be the best way to go
for Educational sets.
only in the type of transmitter/cable included. I think the sets should be merged,
an alternate item number added, title changed to "ROBOLAB Team Challenge Set
(Serial or USB)," inventories adjusted for alternates, and sellers instructed
to mention whether they are selling the serial or USB version.
I only feel this way about the Educational sets, BTW. They were made in such
huge quantities and changed so much and are not sold often that it makes
all just extra hassle just not worth it if an accurate catalog can be had even
with consolidation.
Reality check: 1 out of every 12 sets in the BrickLink catalog is an Dacta/Educational
set.

LOL . . . that's what happens when I don't proofread before I post.
