| Good morning,
I was wondering if the Auction feature was simply turned off or commented out,
and if so would current administration be willing to re-enable it.
Auctions don't make a lot of money for the site, but it's often 'extra' money.
Auction lots tend to be items that can't be sold as regular lots or won't move
well like that. So an auction makes the seller money and the site too, and in
both cases more quickly than otherwise would have happened.
If the feature is re-enabled, consider that a test as to whether the feature
makes any sense for the new BL 2.0 site. Maybe we really don't need auctions-
but I think they are useful.
Thanks for your time.

Apparently the need for a universal currency converter, (xe.com) was the reason
that auctions had to be disabled.
A lot of people really liked them, but it was incompatible with the need for
all currencies to be playing on the same field

So, someone who is in the UK and only wants to ship within the UK has to set
their prices to USD?

Think it had more to do with the fight with eBay that then changed the site name

See, this is another reason why old threads shouldn't be purged (and there should
be a 'pin' feature for especially important posts, but I digress...)
I recall that it did have to do with the currency issues, and also that it wasn't
used as much as it used to. I miss the feature and would like to see it implemented
on Bricklink 2.0 . As mentioned earlier, it was perfect for rare items, bulk
lots, quick sales and various other items. It would also be great for those wanting
to put their whole store up for auction. I don't remember if their was a reserve
feature (probably), but that would also be needed if it's reinstated.
Voted yes.

My vote: YES! I think auctions are the perfect place for those one-of-a-kind
items, like misprints. Also, when there are other items that are rare or have
very little price history on BrickLink, an auction is a nice way to determine
what the market will bear.

| It sounds like you would be using the auction feature for harder to sell items
and maybe bulk lots of random parts... that type of usage makes sense to me,
but I worry about folks using the auction feature for regular/htf items & sets.
Would that be possible under the old auction feature or were there specific requirements
as to what could be placed up for auction?
The lack of an auction-type environment is the exact reason I like buying on
BL so much. It alleviates an enormous amount of pressure for me as a buyer and
I like the ease it allows when building my collection. No end-times, no other
buyers outbidding me. I like that BL allows me to go to a store, fill my cart
with items and hit submit order with no other thought as to whether or not I
will be getting those items.
I do see the point you make about BL being able to collect some more money from
an added auction venture. If the feature became too popular though, I worry there
are other buyers, like me, who might choose to shop elsewhere to avoid that auction
atmosphere.

The auction feature is an added function. In other words; you don't have to purchase

The auction added excitement, added a venue for members to stimulate their stores
exposure, as well as many other pros.

Yes, a seperate "added" function, and the only way to see auctions was to enter
it via a tab, or to view through a store that had active auctions. Items were
listed in order of when they were listed, no other breakdown, I believe. Usually
you would find custom sets, bulk lots, and odd/rare items. I would like to see
them again .

Guys saying multi-currency support was what finally killed auction aspect, but
it was only part of what really happened... Basically auctions covered around
less than 1% of orders, yet it took more work than standard ordering system to
add or fix features. It was just such massive work that Dan decided to nix it
as multi-currency was last straw.

Auctions were indeed disabled to provide a more fair playing field and disallow
currency exchange scams.
I was one of the few that activly used auctions, and yes, they do (did) work
as you have described. Tons of fun, and a wee bit of money.
Making auctions workable is possible, I had discussions with Admin Dan during
the end. He couldn't re-code it well enough to make it workable at the time.
Also, he didn't provide much in the way of documentation as to how BL actually
works, which is one reason why (new) Admin Eric is not able to be as fast as
some would like.
So, I would suggest patience.
Either (new) Admin Eric will make BL2.0 or someone else will swoop in and fill
the void. It's only a matter of time.
