| First of all if you have not heard of Bitcoin, follow this link - http://www.weusecoins.com/
I would like an option to be able to accept Bitcoins as payment. A new entry
in "My Accepted Payment Methods" titled "Bitcoin" would be the first step. I
would then use bit-pay.com as the payment processor (to convert AUD, USD etc
to the Bitcoin rate).
Later on full integration into accepted currencies where users can see prices
in Bitcoins.

I voted no. If you have to use a payment processor, why not write into your terms
that they can use any currency accepted at bit-pay to pay via bitcoin and then
give a small incentive if you prefer that method of payment?
Once it is universally accepted as a valid currency, I would reconsider my response.

Between the pages of gibberish on the website I managed to find this statement
"Bitcoin at this stage is no different from arcade tokens, in-game currency,
or Monopoly money used in schools to teach children how money works: it has a
limited value to a limited audience"
thus, I vote no

I think that that rather understates the legitimacy of Bitcoins; after all, there
are commercial clearinghouses online to convert from BC to most common currencies
24/7, so the liquidity is rather more dependable than arcade tokens.
Personally, I like the Bitcoin concept, and I hope it manages to gain traction.
Nevertheless, the complications of making it an officially accepted currency
at BrickLink is not worth the effort, given the current market penetration of
Bitcoins. Plus, it isn't really necessary. Nothing prevents you from stating
in your Terms/Splash Page that you accept payment in BC, and any willing buyers
can work out the details with you privately.

I have voted NO.
How much have you looked into this?
Smacks of ponzi pyramid scam to me - the "mysterious creator" who is so shy he
has to leave others to "take care of business"
Sure the first few will make big money,
Their have been others they all crumbled & lots of folc lost money - I read one
"bitcoin" chap lost almost 1/2million USD.
When I first stumbled on weusecoins I almost asked what you just did, here, then
I dug a little - I'll see if I can find a very good piece on this.
They make a big deal of Fiat currencies of being a scam. To which I agree BUT
:-
-
Just because Fiat Currencies are a scam DOES NOT mean bitcoin isn't a scam also.
Caution!!

I'm neutral on this. I have no idea of what I'd spend my Bitcoins on, besides
on BL for those that accepted it. Also, I have not used it before, so I wouldn't
know if I have yet received payment or not.

I vote no. Currency that aren't backed by physical good are usually hard to
regulate and can vanish overnight, making them worthless. So unless Bitcoin is
backed by gold or silver, Bitcoin is really not worth anything to banks.

True modern currencies aren't based on precious metal anymore. But last I checked,
I could melt pennies into mostly scrap zinc, dimes and quarters into mostly copper
(about 91% copper), and nickles then sell it as scrap metal. And paper money
can be used to pad mattress like back when Germany crashed the market after printing
too much to try and repay for damage done during the first war.
Bitcoin has nothing tangible. If the creator chooses so, at the press of a button
all of bitcoin would just vanish and people would have nothing to fall on as
backup or scrap.

Are you under the impression that any modern currencies are backed by specie
and redeemable in it? I don't think any modern nation has anything other than
a nonredeemable paper standard currency. The United States has not printed notes
backed by Gold or Silver since 1964. Silver Certificates are now redeemable only
in other notes. We in the USA have had no circulating silver or gold coins minted
since 1968. We went officially off of the Gold standard in 1971. This is not
a political statement. It is the history of our coinage and money. Before that
a dollar was tied to an amount of gold. $35 per ounce.
I don't know what gold is selling at now, but I know it is more than that.

A valid idea but Bitcoin is rather unreliable. Also, for those of you whom are
not familiar with or have never ventured to the "deep web", it is worth noting
that Bitcoin is an extremely common currency frequently used as payment
for a variety of goods and services; some (if not most) of which are illicit.

I've learned a little from reading this. Don't know if I'm doing it right or
not though.
Anyway, I finally voted yes -- on the condition that someone is going to write
a quality tutorial on how to protect your anonymity and Bitcoin wallet for BL
if this becomes implemented.

| Yes, anyone calling BTC a scam doesn't understand the technology, sure people
have used BTC to run scams but that same can be true for any currency, the underlying
technology is cryptographically sound, rate of inflation built in and stable
unlike governments who can decide to print or destroy notes at will. If you don't
want to accept BTC just don't selected as a currency your store accepts, end
of story.

Members can exchange money in any format they like, you certainly can put it
in your store terms that you accept BTC.
New site features are not being added at this time, so work with what you have.
