Going to the wanted list by shop page - automatically runs a search of all wanted
lists.
This page should load then have a [search now] button. I typically just want
to search for one wanted list and this initial query is large - my wanted list
is not that big under 300 items - but this search is not needed at all.

Go to your wanted list, at the top is a place where you can choose one of your
wanted lists from a drop-down box "-All My Wanted Lists-". Pick one and hit
the "Go" button. Now you have only the item on that list. Click on the "Show
All" link and you get a list of those items. Now put a check in the box at the
top under to "Query Shops" and that will check mark all items in that list, hit
the "Submit Changes" at the bottom. You then get the search page you want for
only the items on that one list.

When you do it this way you only search for the items on page 1 of that wanted
list.
To search for all the items in a wanted list go to the 'By Shop' tab, select
the wanted list an press 'Go'.
To search for items from multiple wanted lists click the 'Show Multiple Selections'
link.

Certainly we can do this (and as the poster below states if your wanted list
is long - only the first page) and is a sensible work-around, which I have done
before, but not regularly - or as a habit.
This would work for me and others who figure it out, however it does not reduce
server load for the other dozens (hundreds?) of unnecessary searches run by those
who don't know. Having the page wait for user action to run the query is not
a burden relative to resource savings.
I don't know why at times the server is slow and searches time-out. It does
make sense to me to eliminate unnecessary searches and this looks to me like
a good opportunity - very little coding required and could be done quickly.
If it helps great, if not, not out much time or effort.
