This has been suggested several times every year since wanted lists were incorporated.

I don't think a wanted list should be completely public. A password could be
attached to some or all of your wanted lists. That would mean a wanted list with
a password attached would only be accessible to the members who know the password.

If I am looking to buy parts in order to resell them, I would not want people
to see the parameters that I have in place (i.e. if I have an item on my Want
list, and I have the same item already in my store, this gives people the chance
to see my potential mark-up).
For me, making Wanted lists "public" is different than this suggestion.
On the Catalog page for a particular item, it's possible to see how many people
have that item on their want list. I'd like to have those numbers be links which
would then show you the quantities, prices, condition etc for those Wants. Not
WHO wants them, but more details about what they're looking for.

I think that the amount of solicitation email/messages will increase if wanted
lists become public. I personally would like wanted lists to remain private.

I voted No just due to the potential of abuse. If wanted lists were public you
would have less scrupulous sellers contacting customers directly to make offsite
deals, which would lower Bricklink's fee income potentially hurting the site
in the long run.

Agreed, that's almost certainly #1 reason why it has been rejected before.
My take on this is that the site is designed so that buyers can find what they
need without being pestered by sellers acting like double glazing salesmen.
As a trader I've also wanted this for a long time. I guess another reason why
so many people don't want it is because they don't trade.
The argument about taking business away from BL: I've wanted items for trading
several times, and have advertised so in the forums, but several times I've had
to look outside of BL because there were no offers. I've also ended up purchasing
items I've wanted through other places, including S@H.

My suggestion would be a bit different, when making an order for parts, I would
like to be able to share my wanted list with the shop owner to see if he/she
has any additional parts that hadn't made it into his/her store inventory. That
way I could hopefully buy more of my wanted list in that single shop. This suggestion
is because my wanted list is large and has weird, uncommon parts so no single
store has many of my parts list. Sigh.

I would like to see an own it tab. So I can create a list of all the parts in
my private collection (ie not for sale). As a lego collector I use bricklink
for buying lego, selling lego but also for referencing and researching what I
need. With now hundreds of figures I would love to look through the catalogue
and see what I DONT WANT ANYMORE.
