Not sure where to post this so I choose Off Topic.

Dose anyone have any suggestions on how to change the remarks field in bulk?
What I mean is this, when using BrickStock, after you download your store inventory,
you can change the remarks of multiple items at a time to the same remark. The
problem is that BrickStock will not include items where all you have done is
changed the remarks field when using the Export Mass Update unless you change
the quantity also.

The reason I want to do this is because, like many others, I use the remarks
field to identify where our inventory is located and now I need to change pretty
much all of them. I know I can delete my inventory in stages and add the remarks
through BrickStock but I dont want to have to delete my inventory each time I
want to change the remark's field in bulk.

Any ideas? I would even be willing to pay for a solution especially if someone
has changed the code in BrickStock to allow this or if you have have a solution
you use with another program like Excel.

  Hi everyone,

I'm a newly-arrived AFOL on this forum, and this is my first post. I'm
neither English nor American so I'll probably do some grammar mistakes and
I beg your pardon for it.

A few years ago, I saw the wonderful MOC of Alice Finch (link : https://www.flickr.com/photos/88574960@N02/sets/72157632858317817/),
and it blew my mind. Today, I'd like to recreate such a big project, but
even more completely: I'd like to decorate the interior of the castle, to
find some ideas in order to make the stairs moving, etc.

If some of you did Harry Potter MOC, I would be really pleased to catch a glimpse
on your work. If some of you want to help me on this project, just let me know!

Thanks for your help,

Your link dose not seem to be working so here is a link to her Fliker pages:

Hopefully it will work.

File a nss on the order problem page.
Getting money back depends on how you paid. If credit card file a charge back.
If paypal open a item not recieved claim.

Also, once you file a NSS (non shipping sender) the store may try to hold your
order hostage by saying that he will send your order once you cancel the NSS
- Dont Cancel The NSS Unit You Receive The Package!! The seller will have plenty
of time to get your order to you before the NSS completes and if you get the
order after the NSS completes, it's not your fault, it's his fault and
he deserves it.

I just tried all the characters on the keyboard, !@#$%^&*()_-+=}]{{"':;.
, I put them in the remarks field as well as the description field and they all
worked. I think BL treats them
only as a text field so any character should be fine.

I've never understood or used the insurance field. Dear Bricklink, can't
we just ditch it altogether,

There are stores that use this field so to just ditch it would not be right or
fair to the stores that do (we use it on occasion).

especially if it causes problems like these

I bet it was not BrickLink that gave away free insurance but I BET it was just
a bad setting on the posters part. It's just to easy to blame BrickLink for
anything that dose not work the way we expect that they should. It takes time
to understand all steps needed to go through to make instant checkout work properly
but, we as imperfect humans, always want to put the blame elsewhere when things
dont work right.

Why do you want to alienate members who voluntarily contribute their time, money
and effort to make this site better in a manner not even your paid catalogue
assistants or whatever they are called can do? Simple – you let ego get in the
way of sound reasoning.

I have no desire to alienate such members. I have expressed my desire a number
of times that mfav would return to producing part photos of exceptional quality
for the site. But he is frustrated with the current leadership (which I am a
part of) so unless that changes, or there is a noticeable change in focus,
he is not likely to start helping out.

So the only value you attach to him is how much you can use him? Besides - what
is the quality of that leadership if you cannot take criticism? You do not have
to like his opinions, but you can respect the man's knowledge and allow for
that. So what if he is critical and abrasive - who cares? This site has always
needed volunteers, but if this is the way to go, stretch the purse strings and
offer him money. If he then sells his soul, you can control his mouth like you
would any other employee. Until then, a volunteer is exactly that and entitled
to his opinions and his own website. Cancel his posts if such offend your sensibilities.

This thing you did was churlish and you might be able to justify it in the mirror,
but that will be the only place it is going to make sense.

A little harsh and frankly over-the-top, IMO.

Russell and the other admins “take criticism” on a regular basis, as evidenced
by yours and other posts. There’s always much more to it than is spelt-out, especially
for us here in the forum, i.e. we don’t have all the info or backstory, nor will
we.

We have no idea beyond the forum, what Russell and the others put-up with in
their efforts. I am pleasantly surprised though, that Russell takes the time
to share at the level that he does.

But these are just the opinions and thoughts of one, in the minority, member,
as unpopular as they may be.

And by the way, I'm not in favor of banning unless it's truly egregious
behavior, or continued breaching of the TOS agreement.

Is there a way to get admin to step in and inform him how the nss process works.
I'm pretty sure he knows exactly what he is doing as every message he sends
me is off system. Should I just let the nss run its course and he can deal with
the fall out?

Why did you file a NSS?

Ordered feb 27. Paid feb 27th. Store terms state they ship within 3 days. Been
nearly a month and still dont have order. No contact from seller informing of
a problem
Lots more to it but that's the basics.

Let the NSS run its course and after it is completed file a PayPal claim if the
seller refuses to refund.

If he gives you a tracking number to show he sent it I would recommend waiting
til you receive the order to make sure he actually sent you the right parts and
not just an empty envelope or something else similarly worthless.

I googled but either I'm too dumb or there are hard to find.

Thanks in advance.

You might be better off searching for thin cables or you could get here one of
these:

Gear No: 853967 Name: Wooden Minifigure
*
853967 (Inv) Wooden Minifigure
Gear: Wooden Toy: LEGO Originals

They are really nice! They come unfinished so you can tell her that she can stain
and finish it the way she likes (or you could) or she can paint on some cool
designs (Lego website shows some cool examples).

I completely agree. I know the fear is real but one of the best things we can
do is to try and support the economy in any way we can and I don't mean just
BrickLink but any thing we do helps. Ordering from Walmart, Amazon, Target and
so on - everything can be delivered so you dont need to expose yourself outside
if you dont want to and you can just put your packages in a closet for 5 days
(except for smelly cheese)

The post office will most likely not shut down so the postmen will still be driving
and walking their routes. Less packages will mean less money coming in to cover
cost. Besides, we need things to build if we are staying in doors so by all means,
Lego, Lego, Lego.

  Hi all!

Sorry for my bad english, but this idea I really want to share with you

I think that Bricklink need functionality for sellers to offer Promocode additionaly
to coupons.
Coupons can be used just by registered users and mostly work with returned buyers
But promocode functionality is a reason for seller to grow up his social network
auditory and could help to bring more new users to bricklink.

I think it should work this way:

Seller can set up many promocodes at the settings.
He can chose the % or fixed ammount for each promocode.
He can set up it same way as coupon (for parts or sets / new or used / additionaly
to current discounts or not / how long it will work for buyers (should be possible
to set up permanent promocode))

On the forum should be special Topic for promocodes. It will work instead of
forum messages like "coupon for each who write me here"

Promocodes are realy good working strategy for social marketing and also can
be added to the bussiness cards or to the store page or many other places.

How do you think about it?

I think that is a great idea and I would think that it would be quite easy to
implement at the checkout page.

Great idea!

or a family member show flu symptoms? Prudent or paranoid?

As of now, my state is low risk, and we are all healthy in the family, but that
could change in an instant. I know many of us have kept working when ill (and
hopefully with washed hands), but now I'm thinking of the safety of those
receiving the parts.

Should we cancel orders if showing flu-like symptoms in the best interest of
health and safety?

It’s a valid concern given popular media's reporting, Judith

The best advise in general, is NOT to get your information about the current
Novel Coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) from mainstream
media sources. But rather go directly to the men an women of science. There are
countless medical research facilities and hospitals, universities and governmental
agencies, dedicated to learning in order to teach others about these types of
inevitable challenges to humanity. They all have websites

From the CDC:
In general, because of poor survivability of these coronaviruses on surfaces,
there is likely very low risk of spread from food products or packaging that
are shipped over a period of days or weeks at ambient, refrigerated, or frozen
temperatures.

From Johns Hopkins who will collaborate with the CDC and WHO:
Researchers are studying the new coronavirus to learn more about how it infects
people. As of this writing, scientists note that most viruses like this one do
not stay alive for very long on surfaces, so it is not likely you would get COVID-19
from a package that was in transit for days or weeks. The illness is most
likely transmitted by droplets from an infected person’s sneeze or cough.

-Cory

One thought to add - Even though it is probably unlikely that a person would
get the virus from opening a package after it has been in transit for a day or
more, there is still the chance that just by dropping packages off at the post
office that an infected person could pass the virus to the postal employees who
may handle the packages just minutes after being dropped off by the infected
person leaving them at the counter or package bin which, if the postal worker
caught the virus they he could pass it on to many other postal workers before
he even knew he was infected.

Jim.

All the postal workers at my branch are wearing gloves. After each customer they
spray the counter.

I think that type implemented precautions are more just to help the employees
and public feel a little safer but don't actually help all that much, but
is still better then doing nothing.

I know that, but it doesn't answer my question of what the use is of embedding
(in this case) Japanese characters in an item description, as there is no practical
way of searching for them.

They are searchable like any other characters. You have to use two next to each
other, however. Single characters of any writing system are thrown out of the
search.

Well now that answers the question that, yes, there is a good reason for including
the characters. Descriptions in the catalog should have more to them then just
searchable words. They describe what the item is. To disregard words or characters
because they are disregarded when doing a search would in my mind be backwards
thinking. As an example, the point you referenced in regards to: "why name something
'where are my pants' when the search engine throws out 'where',
'are' and 'my'". So: why use terms in an item's description
if it cannot reasonably be searched on? If we disregarded those words then
the item description then changes from 'Where are my Pants?' Guy - Minifigure
only Entry' to 'Pants?' Guy - Minifigure only Entry' which now
makes the description uninformative as well as pretty useless.

As far as searching using the Japanese characters. I tried it and it brought
up the appropriate results of"

  New error for me

I try to enter my orders page and I get 'this page cannot be displayed'

Totally thrown a spanner into the works for me and yet again, my routine and
schedule are interrupted.

I was having the same problem. Try using this url: https://www.bricklink.com/orderReceivedOld.asp?pg=1&orderFiled=N&srtAsc=DESC

I tried logging in with a different browser. Since it was the first time I used
this browser it went to the new page as a default which worked. When I clicked
on "use classic layout" it gave me the error message.

That did the trick! Thanks for posting it.

Jim.
