I had enough of these in the last few weeks that waiting 2 full weeks is painful
to complete them.

I don't mind the 1 week to pay before it is started. But another full 7 days
to complete the NPB is not necessary.

I would propose 3 additional days and that is it. Let us get our stock back
in our stores to sell to someone else instead of being held at our will for 14
full days when 10 is plenty enough.

I can't be the only one that feels this way and 14 days might have worked
10-15 years ago when access to Smart-Phones wasn't as widespread, but these
days, you can't go far without having the ability to respond. Thanks

This is exactly why I just cancel the order and never file NPB. It just takes
two long. 2 weeks is insane. It shouldn't take a week to pay. It shouldn't
take more than a few days to pay, if you don't have the money don't order
stuff, pretty simple. I know a lot of buyers are getting let off the hook by
this but I don't have the time or patience and I don't want my inventory
constantly tied up for a fortnight. I just cancel the order ban the buyer and
move on.

Once again a constant thread and everyone agrees with it except Bricklink for
some strange reason. Why should we have to let our inventory be tied up for two
weeks or longer when someone isn't going to pay for their order.

Bring the business side of the site into the 21st century, please - IC doesn't
work for all and for those that do not use it this is a real pain and totally
unnecessary.

And while we are at it, as a buyer, how come an NRS can tie up my buying money
for three weeks!? If a seller is not interested in selling, can I not please
just cancel the order myself after 3 days and go somewhere else? This is the
one part of Bricklink I have always found very unfair to buyers.

As a buyer you can file a paypal claim or a chargeback with your bank. Sellers
have no options except the npb system

?? If the seller has not invoiced, how do I have a claim? Because of exchange
controls I've had cancellations cost me 26% of the order value after three
weeks, with still no invoice from the seller concerned and no way to cancel and
move on except to wait it out.

Bear in mind also, BL is a contracts based systems, so even if a seller invoice
on day 20, he can still start an NPB after 7 days, irrespective of the time he
took to invoice or even if the buyer's circumstances have changed. Imagine
a wait of two weeks for an international order and exchange rate drop of 10%,
making the order 10% plus rate pips more expensive for the buyer. These are not
the most extreme examples.

Sellers also can cancel irrespective, buyers have to request a cancellation as
a favour from a seller who is not responding, go figure.

Would it be possible to add a function that would allow us (buyers) to check
our orders part by part? (using a hook or something like that)?
For more than 100 parts it's always very cumbersome, with printing lists
or something like that.
It would be great!

Did you notice the "temporary checkboxes" link at the bottom of the order details
page?

oh, no, not yet. Where do I find the "order details page"?
I just know the order placed page...

That is not true for series 1 up to 15 where all leaflets had a unique numbering,
also most series at least up to series 13 (if not all) had a unique code on them
to unlock the characters on the website https://www.playminifigures.com/ (is
no longer active, was closed at the end of 2016).

What do you mean by unique numbering?

Do you mean the 122091-1, 2, 3 codes?

I've just looked at 27 Series 8 leaflets, all have 122091-1 or 122091-2,
and I have not seen any other numbers after the dash. The exact same number is
on other series leaflets too. For Series 10 I have a 122091-3. I don't think
these numbers were unique to individual sets within a series.

Ditto. Entire Team GB series 122091-1, Series 4: 122091-2, series 5 122091-1
I do not see a unique code on any leaflet at all

I've read about brittle blue being a period in time where the plastic turned
'weird' i suppose for whatever reason? However in my experience as a
seller, I fully believe it is a result of exposure to sunlight and such. Nothing
more. Blue, white, yellow and grey's turn all sorts of weird shades over
time. It's inevitable... I don't understand why we always talk about
brittle blue but not brittle yellow? If the part is not the right shade i'd
just throw it in the trash.

I've had brittle blue from sealed sets where the parts have never ever seen
the light of day. There are buyers who think this makes parts used. Rather than
getting into arguments about TLG quality, I just store them separate and will
probably list them as oddities at some time.

I've never been able to that. Add the images as additional images to your
inventory (select the inventory item, click on "edit more" and then "upload image")
or ask that person to send you his/her e-mail address so you can send the images
direct.

Optionally included where?

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=22

It is a mandatory field out of Brickstock for an xml
update inventory. The only time lot numbers come into it are if you wish to update
existing inventory. Niek is right - the system is doing a lookup to pick up the
description so it can look up the product id quite easily.

It performs a lookup on the category only, nothing else.

  Yes according to Bricklink
we sell lots but according to reality we sell items which make up lots.

In reality there has never been a single catalog item sold on BL Mind blowing
I know, but download your orders with full detail - there is no such thing in
the catalog as a "Red Technic, Brick 1 x 14 with Holes" as a separate catalog
item, yet that is the only description on your invoice.

  The fact
that this platform has no real inventory system available to stores does not
mean we cannot look at elements of the catalogue when we are bringing in data.
A schema would clearly e4stablish this - Product ID cannot be duplicated and
therefore can be read easily when a lookup to that table is done.

What do you mean by Product ID - the lot ID or the catalog item ID? These are
two different things altogether and bear no relation to each other.

If I modify the xml file we created when we export xml to Clipboard - the mass
upload will not work - we get an error message that the file format is invalid.
If I put the itemid back in it works.

Export with a comment and delete the item field again, it will work. You could
conceivably list your entire inventory without a single catalog item id.

Whilst I am confident nothing will happen over this suggestion it would be welcome
for BL to comment.

I voted yes, but I am not entirely sure this would be as simple as is believed

The reason that part number gets dropped is because in BL world, that part number
is not something used to differentiate inventory items.

That would be a valid argument, if BL weren't already showing the item description
on that exact same screen. If the program is able to show the description (which
is a lookup into the items table), it already knows the part number (or at least
grab it from the same table the description came from).

So yes, it is a request easily implemented.

Niek.

But the item number is optionally included, it is not even a required field.
And from what I can see, only the category field ties to the item number in the
catalog. As a matter of fact, you can list everything in your store without a
single catalog item number, so long as you have the category and comments fields,
mass uploads will work. We sell lots, not catalog items.

I voted yes, but I am not entirely sure this would be as simple as is believed
on first glance.

The reason that part number gets dropped is because in BL world, that part number
is not something used to differentiate inventory items. What you are adding are
lots, and not individual stock items or even different colours of an item. This
is the reason you cannot cost 2 different batches of the same inventory item
with different cost prices added at two different dates on BL, as you are merely
adding to existing lots, and not adding a new batch which must be reported on
separately. Showing the part number when importing would probably have to mean
that the lot would need an additional characteristic added to it to move it into
the realm of actual inventory of parts and not lots.

My information may be a tad wrong, but from experience, lots (that is your inventory
items) are differentiated only on the comments and the condition, nothing else.
It is, sadly, a throwback to auctioneer inventory where the lot is costed as
a unit and fees are earned on the unit. To get to a basis of project costing
or at the very least some average costing for your inventory items as actual
items and not lots, would possibly take a redesign of the entire inventory handling.

Barely a 4 months after the poor single colour coral was elevated by Pantone

From sealed gear item parted out. The part count is actually supposed to be 73 pcs according to the bubblepack. Current inventory shows 72. I do not think there are extra's in this gear, so the regular count for this part should be 3 and not 2.

I’ll excuse your French as it so happens that “%^^$%@” could indeed be replaced
by “French”.

That will not do as my French writing is already limited to some swear words,
cooking terms from Larousse and a bit here and there from a few novels. Wish
I could read Proust, Balzac, Littel and few others in original French.

Bicorne = two horns
There are tricorne hats too (three horns).

Horny hats will be even more difficult to remember, it is not a concept I usually
associate with hats or caps.

You might want to bookmark this page. It at
least gives the starting point names of some hat/headdress styles with images,
since I can never remember any of them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hat

You’ll note that on that page, keffiyeh is spelled keffiyah.
(While the wiktionary lists kaffiyah, kufiya, and kufiyah as alternative spellings,
but not keffiyah.)

Finding it through Prince of Persia minifigures might be quicker than searching
the wikipedia page then trying all the possible spellings

Parts: Minifigure, Headgear

It's always the same cycle, I search "turban" because it's very similar
to a turban.
and all that pops up are these;

Part No: 40235 Name: Minifigure, Headgear Turban with Hole
*
40235 Minifigure, Headgear Turban with Hole

&

Part No: 18822 Name: Minifigure, Headgear Turban without Hole
*
18822 Minifigure, Headgear Turban without Hole
Parts: Minifigure, Headgear

So then I remember that the piece I'm looking for is on a few of the Prince
of Persia minifigs so I go to catalog, minifigs, prince of persia, and then scroll
until I find one with the matching headgear, and then drill down into it's
inventory to find that it's called a "Keffiyeh"

to which my response is, "oh, well, I'll probably never remember that..."

I wish the description was "Headgear Headdress Cloth Wrap Keffiyeh (Turban)"
even if it's not technically a turban. It would help me find it faster in
the future.

At any rate, taking the time to type this all out should help me remember in
the future and I discovered that one only has to type "kef*" in the headgear
search and this pops up so I should be able to remember those 3 letters at least
going forward.

Took me awhile to remember "kepi" for this part too, but I remembered eventually.

I was just coming to suggest this very thing. Before I did though I checked,
and no, there is no such box. That would probably be one of those "inventory
management tools" that were promised years ago but have yet to materialise.

Hi Jennifer,

Like I said, there is no box to search for "dimensions unavailable". The box
that you've selected only searches for items that you've already set
to 'manual' meaning they can't be included in an instant checkout
order. What we need is a box that selects items that have no dimensions listed
in the Bricklink catalogue so that we as sellers can either enter the dimensions
ourselves or set the item to 'manual'.

Ron

It is not correct to say that the search only returns results for items you've
already set to manual. That search returns results for the following:

All items set to manual;
All items with no weight at all;
All items with weight but no dimensions and set volume bound (such as instructions).

The images below are from that exact search in my inventory and all of those
items will not be in an IC order

One thing that has not come up here … Is there a 1:1 relationship between which
catalog entry (for parts) have brick stud dimensions and which IC entries have
hidden mm dimensions ? IOW, are the two traveling in sync with one another ?

No

I just went and did a Parts.XML download from the catalog. In it I see X/Y/Z
dimensions in studs (just like what's on the Catalog page). Can I reliably
infer that parts in that download missing dimensions are also missing in the
IC database, are that they even match (mathematically speaking) ?

Alas no

Then I took one set at random (1356-1) … Both the catalog page and the download
show dimensions in cm. But the fields below a lot entry are in mm. That would
seem to be an easy calculation provided that they are more closely in sync than
the parts may be.

If you part the set out using Bricklink's tool for doing so and break the
minifigs into parts as well, you will see for that particular set that the minifigs
will be weight bound as well as all the torso assemblies and all the minifig
heads, all the other parts have IC dimensions. The easiest way still to check
inventory for missing dimensions is still the inventory setting for IC not available.
The easiest method to check for missing details when uploading is also unfortunately
to use the part-out tool in Bricklink (I forget to do this as a check from time
to time since I've stopped using Bricklink altogether for uploading inventory),
you cannot get that information from Brickstock either.

A lot of sellers run their business from their homes. There would be a fair number
of sellers who wouldn't want someone coming to their personal home address
to buy a few pieces, and also wouldn't have time to meet across town for
an exchange in person. Sending items in the mail is both convenient and adds
a layer of security.

Obviously, this could open a niche market for sellers that are willing to do
this. It would be pretty rare in my area, so if a local buyer contacted me, I'd
probably be happy to meet them.

But I think we need to allow seller's to opt into the option of "Allow buyers
to find my store by zip code" if this were to become a reality.

I run my store from home myself, but have the town I live in right there in my
store terms. Pity there is no search function for store terms, as I have gotten
numerous e-mails asking me in which town in the province I'm situated So
I'm left wondering if it is actually worth it to have it in there at all.

There are of course lots of different features that could be implemented to make
the Part Out tool even more powerful, like more advanced ways to set up automatic
prices, like 10% below average etc.

When I was selling here I was very strongly opposed to the idea of automating
pricing to undercut the Price Guide Average. My thinking then was that nothing
would increase downward pressure on prices or accelerate the "race to the bottom"
some sellers here engage in more than giving them a way to automatically, easily,
quickly and repeatedly price thousands and thousands of lots BELOW the Price
Guide Average. The tedious manual process was one significant check that reduced
the downward pressure on prices.

But since I am very unlikely to ever sell here again, and quite likely to resume
buying at some point, I would LOVE to see a feature that helps to reduce prices
even more. So I would vote yes if this were a formal suggestion.

Foster

Agreed. Actually, the system as it is is already working in your favour as a
buyer - thee part out system being so poorly designed and unstable drives alot
of sellers to use Brickstock. Brickstock retrieves prices WITHOUT VAT - which
means that for all European sellers, it retrieves prices that are significantly
lower than what you get parting out on the Bricklink website. The result is sellers
underpricing without being aware of it, fuelling the global race to the bottom.

Maybe, maybe not. There are a lot of sellers in that bottom end of the market
that make up prices with fees and charges. You cannot compare prices in the price
guide without factoring fees etc. If the average is 10c and the minimum price
is 7c, if one seller sells at 10c with no fees, he is no different to the seller
at the bottom at 7c with charges and fees that knocks the price back over 11c.

I had me one like that just last week: no fees on the terms page when I got the
invoice, fees and charges excluding shipping were 40% of the order value, knocking
all of the individual prices that seller was asking on those parts from the bottom
5% to way over the average price.

When you actually spend some time really looking at those prices, virtually all
of them are exclusive of fees and charges - meaning the price guide is actually
just false advertising since hardly any of those sellers are actually prepared
to sell at the price they have listed at. And those are just the ones that are
honest enough to tell you upfront about extra fees, there are still a large volume
of sellers who charge those fees included in the shipping charge, sometimes an
extra 50% over and above the actual shipping charge. They are very very aware
of where they are pricing, and it has nothing to do with a race to the bottom,
but everything to do with luring unwary buyers.

  Hi
I was wondering if was possible, or if it would make sense to stop the visit
count going up when you visit your own store. This would give a more accurate
idea of how many other people have looked at your store.

If I am misunderstanding what it is for please correct me.

The visitor counter is totally flawed and should not be used as an indicator
of visitors.

Buggy counter - because it is not supposed to increment when you are logged in
and visit your own store. From: https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=169

If you press and hold the F5 Ker whilst in your store, or anyone
else does, you can make the counter jump horrendously.

We went from 60000 visitors a long time ago to 250,0000 overnight and you know
that cannot be real.

We had our web designer deal with this and now use our own counter, which many
other people also do.

It is a shame really as it appears Bricklink use Google analytics and could provide
much better information but to date have not seen this as important.

Good luck with your suggestion but without a radical change to the way the Bricklink
one currently works it is not helpful information.

If you read the text at the bottom of the current catalog image, it says "NOT

That makes me think that the current catalog image is a prototype image and not
the actual book cover that made it to publishing.

Cheers,

That could be it, but where does the different number come from? Is that also
related to a prototype?

I got the original image off S@H USA, which was where it was officially for sale
in October, though not any longer. The ISBN number is from Amazon USA, and they
are still using the same number, no difference at all. I'll order one from
Amazon in the USA as soon as possible after I've received the local version,
which will be a UK import, currently on back-order. Might be that both S@H USA
and Amazon USA used the publisher's information initially.

In Catalog, StormChaser writes:
In my continual effort to make your lives marginally better (which is a close
second to my continual effort to be a person who does not use catchphrases),
I propose the following for discussion: why do we call patterns patterns pretty
much everywhere but in category names?

Nearly the only place you will see "Decorated" on BrickLink is in category names
(32 of them). When you click on decorated parts, though, you see parts with
patterns. I propose changing the word "Decorated" to the word "Pattern" in those
32 category names. This will have no effects except in aesthetics and site-wide
consistency.

Hmm: Meaning of Decorate:
1. make (something) look more attractive by adding extra items or images to it.

Meaning of Pattern:
1. a repeated decorative design.

Decorated would include stickered and printed items, IMO, whereas patterned simply
refers to the design added to the decorated item. So probably the category names
are correct and the individual items should refer to the pattern or some other
embellishment to be applied to the plain item in order to decorate it (good thing
I've had some coffee already this morning)

LordSkylark has asked for a category split of the Aircraft category into patterned
and non-patterned parts. I decided to succumb to his demand and have created
a new category titled Aircraft, Pattern. Now you can look at it on the parts
category page and see if you prefer the way things are now or the way I suggest
we do things.

As to the actual split of the categories, good thing except, I would, for the
reasons above, stick to "decorated" as opposed to "pattern" in the category name.
Personally I would add to the 2 parts in that category that are not specified,
either "printed" or "sticker" as it is not exactly clear what they are, unless
the feeling is that the default is printed.

Provide input, please.

In General, StormChaser writes:
In my continual quest to make your lives marginally better, I have just now put
together a list with photos of the different types of figures the LEGO Group
has produced over the years.

Cool thanks, this is helpful in itself, maybe more so for new users who might
have all of Bricklink's and TLG's terminologies down pat yet (think legos)

This list is not yet official and will change. It will have more detailed descriptions
of figures and hopefully better photos. It will also move from the current location
to an unknown location in the Catalog Help Center section. Or, of course, it
could also get shot down.

I have also asked that the item type Minifigs be retitled to Figures
in light of the wide range of figures of all different sizes we include in this
one section - no word on if this will happen or not. So the six item types would
be:

Sets
Parts
Figures
Books
Catalogs
Gear

Thanks long overdue

This is truly a sneak peak for everyone - the people at the BrickLink office
haven't even seen it yet:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=88

Your thoughts on this list and the item type retitle? Do you find this list
of figure types useful or is it something not needed?

Please use this thread to claim some categories which you are checking and correcting.
This should make things go more smoothly. We will go in alphabetical order,
so here are the categories I am claiming and will correct myself:

4 Juniors
Adventurers
Agents
Alpha Team
Aquazone
Atlantis
Avatar
Basic
Batman 1
Belville

Rest of the B's, C and D. I'm assuming you want catalog change requests
and not forum posts like the colors, correct?

I'm just noting that there's a mix of apples and oranges in this column.

Right, and I did think of that and disliked it. I have most of the 4 Juniors
sets done now according to the guidelines:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogListOld.asp?catType=M&catString=516&itemBrand=1000

Honestly, when I see all those set numbers together on one page I don't much
care for the idea of including them at all. For those of you who want set numbers
added to the titles, do you like the way they look?

We could go with including them for one set only and use (Multiple Sets) after
that. This would fix the issue mfav pointed out. But, if I were the only person
deciding, I'd just leave them off completely except for figures which hadn't
yet been included in an inventory. They just look messy to me.

I'm honestly ambivalent about including the set numbers. On the one hand
I'd like a feature of the catalog to easily point out something unique (such
as a figure occurring only in 1 set). On the other hand, I have got issues with
all those numbers - they do look messy (and you've not done a figure that
is included in a book with the ISBN number as item number - 13 digits or three
books will have 39 digits!!). Also, how many inventory submitters are going to
remember to put those numbers in ascending order for name changes? Conversely,
how many submitters are going to remember to put a name change through for the
removal of the set number once the set has been inventoried? Or worse still,
which numbers do you order on: sets, gear or books, i e do you have a naming
convention that set numbers are first in line, ascending, then gear, then books?

So lets go with the work involved - which is easier: name changes for ascending
set numbers if you stick with three max (and I personally like the idea of 3+
sets in stead of multiple sets proposed in the other reply to this), or removing
set numbers from figures names once the inventory comes through? That is for
catmins to decide, as I said previously, if a person can remember to actually
do the name change request, it is not a huge extra effort as part of an inventory
submission to do so. Note that I'm not going with the workload to re-name
most if not all of the figures in the catalog, this will have to be done anyway
so including set numbers is just tacked on to that.

Furthermore, I've tested the searches on some of those 4 Juniors using just
the set numbers, and they do come up correctly as figures in the search results,
so from that perspective it works. But, and this is problematic, under what instance
would you search for a figure using the set number? If you have the figure or
a part of it, and do not know the set, you cannot do the search on that basis.
If you know the set number, then you can find the figure in its inventory. So
it would seem that I am back to my first argument - nice to have, and not necessarily
practical or user friendly in terms of look and feel (circular logic). If the
workload involved for the name changes referred to above is the same, then I
would just go for leaving the set numbers off altogether unless a set has not
been inventoried as yet and rather forgo the nice to have for a practical look
and feel.

Here are the guidelines I've come up with and am presenting for commentary
and modification. All of these sound complicated and they are - they'd be
intended more for the use of administrators, although they would be public in
the Help section. The result of these rules would be titles which are somewhat
less aesthetically pleasing (see the Arctic Batman example later in this post),
but which are consistent catalog-wide. They follow fairly well with what has
been done in the past:

Preliminary Section of Title:

The preliminary section of the title is not used for standard-sized minifigures.
This section describes the figure type (mini doll, microfigure, big figure,
Duplo figure, Technic figure, 4 Juniors figure, etc.). This section of the title
is not intended for the theme of a figure, does not include commas, and is separated
from the rest of the title with a dash.

To be truly consistent every figure should be titled the same way. Examples
are Figure, Technic and Figure, Belville, and Figure, Minifigure and Figure,
Microfigure and Figure, Statuette. However, it is possible to add too much to
titles and thus this approach was not used.

First Section of Title

The occupation or type of the figure goes here. These words would include firefighter,
pilot, race driver, doctor, knight, superhero, robot, droid, skeleton, zombie,
alien, etc. and should be used in identical ways for similar figures. Additional
occupations are listed in ascending alphabetical order up to a maximum of three
and are separated by a forward slash. Theme-specific words are used where appropriate.
For example, a Star Wars trooper is identified as Trooper, 212th Battalion or
Trooper, Clone, 41st Kashyyyk.

For figures which have no apparent occupation, the word "character" is used followed
by the theme without a comma. An example is Character Minecraft. For plain
figures with no torso pattern which also have no occupation, the term "plain
torso" is used, followed by the color. An example is Plain Torso, Red.

Second Section of Title:

This section includes the name of the figure if it has a name and is separated
from the first section by a comma. Additional names or name-type descriptors
are separated with a forward slash. For figures without a name, descriptions
are used. For multiple figures with the same name, the name is followed by a
comma and further descriptors separated by commas.

No two figures should have exactly the same title, but all descriptions should
be limited to the minimum necessary to differentiate one figure from another.
When describing a figure, characteristics should be listed in this order and
ended once the first differing characteristic is listed: torso assembly, hair/headgear,
body wear such as backpacks when applicable, head, and legs assembly. Titles
of individual items used for descriptors should be shortened where possible and
descriptor colors should be eliminated where possible. When descriptor colors
are required they should be placed after descriptors. The word "pattern" should
not be used in minifigure titles.

The sole exceptions for this section are Duplo figures which always include complete
descriptions in their titles.

Third Section of Title:

The set number in which the minifigure appears is included in round brackets
(parentheses) in ascending order and the -1 identifier is not used in the set
number unless it is greater than one. This information is only included for
figures which appear in three or fewer sets and combination/value packs are not
included. For figures which appear in more than three sets the term (Multiple
Sets) is used. The (Multiple Sets) identifier is necessary for consistency in
appearance and shows that the figure is in more than three sets. It also allows
members to easily identify figures for which this section of the title is missing.

Coda Section of Title:

This section is used for any additional information necessary and is separated
from the rest of the title with a dash. This information usually relates to
commerce, such as describing that a collectible minifigure entry is for only
the figure.

And that's everything. Let's see these rules in action: for each figure
below I've shown how titles would appear with these changes (several required
research to see if the colors included in the titles were actually necessary).

snip

I find it easier to apply rather than discuss in the air as it were, so following
on from the above and using a few of the catalog items I've submitted, let
me see if I can get these correct from the word go. IMO, this would make it easy
to see where problems can be caused and also how easy it is to add to the catalog,
as well as for catmins when you start renaming. Maybe a sandbox forum topic for
this should be used, so these can be tested efficiently and in one place?

Anyway:

Minifig No: idea041 Name: Grandmother
*
idea041 (Inv) Grandmother
Minifigures: LEGO Ideas (CUUSOO)
would become: Character CUUSOO, Grandmother (21315)

Minifig No: 90398pb039 Name: Jack Statuette / Trophy
*
90398pb039 Jack Statuette / Trophy
Minifigures: LEGO Ideas (CUUSOO)
would become: Microfigure - Character CUUSOO, Jack (21315)

Minifig No: pln171 Name: Plain Red Torso with Red Arms, Dark Blue Legs, No Headgear, Black Eyebrows, Thin Grin
*
pln171 (Inv) Plain Red Torso with Red Arms, Dark Blue Legs, No Headgear, Black Eyebrows, Thin Grin
Minifigures: School Supplies
would become: Plain Torso, Red (Gear 81087)

Minifig No: frnd274 Name: Friends Mia - Dark Purple Shorts, Dark Azure Plaid Shirt, Dark Red Ponytail
*
frnd274 (Inv) Friends Mia - Dark Purple Shorts, Dark Azure Plaid Shirt, Dark Red Ponytail
Minifigures: Friends
would become: Mini Doll - Character Friends, Mia, Dark Azure Plaid Shirt, Dark
Purple Shorts, (10749, 41345)

Minifig No: hol130 Name: Snowman with 2 x 2 Curved Top Brick as Legs
*
hol130 (Inv) Snowman with 2 x 2 Curved Top Brick as Legs
Minifigures: Holiday & Event: Christmas
would become: Snowman, 2 x 2 Curved Top Brick as Legs (60201)

A few problems I had:
Gear numbers are not set numbers, so the set number should be the standard and
gear items should be stated as such.
The snowman is strictly not a minifig, but I do not think that something like
is Parts Figures or Figure from Parts should be used, in this case, the identifier
should be the part that does not conform to it being a standard Figure.

I'll work through a few more later, but for the time being, is this moving
in the right direction?

Thank you for providing the detailed rules as you envisage them, IMO this approach
will make things easier to add and identify.

First, let me thank you all for your assistance with these projects. Thanks
to your hard work and discussion we have completed four projects within the last
month and three are ongoing:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2473

The seventh project consists of moving every 47th item in the Set item type to
the Gear item type. This is necessary because the Set item type just seems larger
than the Gear item type. When these items are moved, perhaps we can also give
them funny titles.

On a more serious note, this project actually consists of standardizing
whether set numbers appear in minifigure titles. Here are some examples of different
ways set numbers are included or not included in minifigure titles:

Minifig No: twn215 Name: Balloon Vendor
*
twn215 (Inv) Balloon Vendor
Minifigures: Town

Minifig No: env002 Name: Coast Guard Captain - White Hat, Torso Sticker with 4 Buttons and Badge
*
env002 (Inv) Coast Guard Captain - White Hat, Torso Sticker with 4 Buttons and Badge
Minifigures: Town: Classic Town: Coast Guard

Minifig No: twn019s Name: Patron - Black Suit with Two Buttons and Red Tie (Torso Sticker), Black Legs, Black Cowboy Hat
*
twn019s (Inv) Patron - Black Suit with Two Buttons and Red Tie (Torso Sticker), Black Legs, Black Cowboy Hat
Minifigures: Town: Classic Town

Minifig No: pln115 Name: Plain White Torso with White Arms, Red Legs, Red Female Hair
*
pln115 (Inv) Plain White Torso with White Arms, Red Legs, Red Female Hair
Minifigures: Town: Classic Town

Minifig No: tech027 Name: Technic Figure Orange/Black Legs, Orange Torso with Silver Pattern, Black Arms, Black Hair
*
tech027 Technic Figure Orange/Black Legs, Orange Torso with Silver Pattern, Black Arms, Black Hair
Minifigures: Technic: Competition

Minifig No: frnd102 Name: Friends Stephanie - Dark Pink Shorts, White Top with Stars
*
frnd102 (Inv) Friends Stephanie - Dark Pink Shorts, White Top with Stars
Minifigures: Friends

Minifig No: bob034 Name: Flying Dutchman
*
bob034 (Inv) Flying Dutchman
Minifigures: SpongeBob SquarePants

I realized that standardizing this would be as simple as a single sentence added
to the appropriate section of this page (which hasn't been updated since
2010):

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=179

But before we change anything, let us discuss. Do you want minifigure titles
to include set numbers? Do you find set numbers in minifigure titles useful
or can you live without them? Once we decide and get written policy in place,
then we only need to examine the titles of all the minifigures and adjust as
necessary. If we go with including set numbers, then the format would be this
(with the words Multiple Sets instead of individual set numbers for figures that
appear in more than one set):

Minifigure Name (Set 1000-1)
Minifigure Name (Multiple Sets)

If we go with not including set numbers, then we just need to remove existing
set numbers from titles. I don't have a preference either way on this one.
Thoughts?

I do like the idea of minifigs only ever included in 1 set showing up as unique
to a set. There are, however, minifigs that are unique to gear items and books
as well, so conceivably this would need to be done for all those as well. It
would be a bit of extra work to complete an inventory, as the name change would
have to be done in the case where a minifig is released as part of another set/book/gear.
Personally I do not think that it such a major issue to do a name change as part
of an inventory (I have done one of those, took about two minutes), so this should
not be a major objection.

As regards figs in more than one set, I should think that a simple policy should
just be that unique figs are identified with the set number, anything appearing
in more than one set/book/gear does not get anything tagged on to the name. That
way it becomes consistent in that either it is clearly identified as unique to
a set, or not unique.

I think there might be some confusion here. This is one part with a sticker on
either side, not a left and right part. The 'left' and 'right'
on the images makes it sound weird, it really should be 'front' and 'back',
if anything. The 'left' and 'right' only make sense in relation
to the completed model.

Josh

Thanks, I should maybe also have checked better and certainly have read better
.
Please ignore this one. I cannot edit the original post.

Goodness, no. I'm suggesting a brief title addition only to heads
which have printing on more than one side. Or, more precisely, LordSkylark suggested
it and I think it's something we could accomplish.

Ahh OK, now I understand better. Still think two categories is the way to go
though. For the meantime, maybe consider "bilateral" (defined as having two sides)
or "interchangeable" (defined as transposable). Anything you use is going to
be an awkward as my original thought that some names are going to be long still
stands.

Changing titles of certain dual-sided heads to reflect this fact and splitting
heads into single-side print and dual-side print categories.

This was a tough one. It was the second most popular project with 10 people
wanting it, one with no opinion, and three saying no. However, I read the comments
about doing it and I have changed my mind and now don't think it is the best
route to go. I know that heads are a big category, but I think it would be best
to leave them all together. So I'm going against the people and saying no
to the single side/dual side split.

As for the retitling dual-sided heads, I agree that we need to have some way
to distinguish these from heads with printing only on one side. For example:

Part No: 3626cpb1018 Name: Minifigure, Head without Face with Pineapple Pattern - Hollow Stud
*
3626cpb1018 Minifigure, Head without Face with Pineapple Pattern - Hollow Stud
Parts: Minifigure, Head

I think it would be confusing to use the term "dual-sided," so someone come up
with some suggestions for a term we can tack onto titles of heads with non-face
printing on both sides, please.

So unless Ii understand this completely wrong, you would rather want a naming
convention on ALL heads then? How many people are going to read catalog naming
conventions prior to do doing a search? Let us for the sake of argument use the
following terms then (these are not meant to be the naming conventions):
Single sided face print; (for heads with ONLY a face printed on one side)
Double sided face print; (for heads with ONLY a face printed on BOTH sides)
Single sided ornate print (ornate being defined as a complex pattern, i e pattern
other than a face. Printed on one side only)
Double sided ornate print (Ornate printed on BOTH sides)
Double sided face/ornate print (Face print on one side and ornate print on the
other)

This would mean the vast majority of heads would have to be renamed so as to
split between dual and single sided, new entries would have to be tested against
the naming convention every time (I for one will forget this probably 50% of
the time I add one) and you might end up with the trouble that the names would
be too long for the description field, meaning you would have to start using
abbreviations or worse still, cut out some other detail which might be important.
Unless you go with adding descriptors only to the dual sided heads, in which
case you would still need at least three naming conventions.

Changing dual sided to its own category would mean that you would not necessarily
have to rename face prints, as I think we can all agree that face printing is
the standard, and that you would only need to add a descriptor such as ornate
to those that have no face printing at all.

I get that minifig heads is a large category. A quick search reveals the following:
2 643 heads; 918 with the current descriptor "dual" (~34%). So putting 34% of
the current into a new category, searching through those that have no face printing
and renaming them, could be a fair bit less work than starting with naming conventions
and renaming all 34% of those and possibly 100% of heads, IMO.

In terms of functionality, a dual sided head is possibly used differently to
a single sided printed head. Probably better to split those then, as it might
be easier to search through 918 of a particular use, than 2 643 of a general
use. At least then you would able to completely cut out the descriptor "dual
sided" or whatever would be used and only use the pertinent details of the head
in its description, which would give you some space to rather make sure that
perhaps more pertinent details are added. So that:

Part No: 3626bpb0528 Name: Minifigure, Head Dual Sided Alien with SW Luminara Unduli Purple Lips and Large Blue Eyes / Protective Eye Mask Pattern - Blocked Open Stud
*
3626bpb0528 Minifigure, Head Dual Sided Alien with SW Luminara Unduli Purple Lips and Large Blue Eyes / Protective Eye Mask Pattern - Blocked Open Stud
Parts: Minifigure, Head
becomes: Minifig, Alien with SW Luminara Unduli Purple Lips and Large Blue Eyes
/ Protective Eye Mask Pattern - Blocked Open Stud
and

Part No: 3626bpsc Name: Minifigure, Head Alien with SW Gray Eyebrows, Implant on Back Pattern (Lobot) - Blocked Open Stud
*
3626bpsc Minifigure, Head Alien with SW Gray Eyebrows, Implant on Back Pattern (Lobot) - Blocked Open Stud
Parts: Minifigure, Head
becomes: Minifig, Alien with SW Gray Eyebrows / Implant Pattern (Lobot) - Blocked
Open Stud

I personally would still prefer a split in categories.

Reorganizing dual-colored molded arms.

My take: I'm good with this and it has been requested before. It will reduce
catalog entries from 23 to 11 entries for straight two-color arms. It will take
some work and I'm not sure about the exact logistics, but it can be done.

Thumbs up

Adding individual decorated hips and legs.

My take: This is currently against policy. Policies can be changed, though.
My question would be this: is it necessary? Does anyone feel a burning need
to sell these parts? Have your buyers been requesting them? How many support
this and how strongly?

If you are splitting the leg assemblies as below, are you not going to need/want
this for inventories of those decorated parts or does the policy also extend
to the inventories of decorated hips and legs? Consistency would be a good thing;
it is of no use that only certain leg assemblies are inventoried because it is
easy to do, and others not because it might present some difficulty. Obviously
adding parts and parts categories might not be the same thing as doing the inventories
thereof, but I would think that you are not about to embark on a project with
only one objective in mind. This is maybe not a burning issue, but certainly
worth considering. If the view is that it is not critical, then you should maybe
consider this as a sub-project to be worked on at a later date.

snip

Changing titles of certain dual-sided heads to reflect this fact and splitting
heads into single-side print and dual-side print categories.

My take: I think these are good ideas, but am always willing to listen to dissenters.

No dissent here, should have been done already when these started coming out.

snip

Splitting decorated/non-decorated minifigure legs.

My take: This one was not on the list for the original project, but I'm adding
it. There are over 1,400 items in the Minifig, Legs Assembly category and I
find it exceedingly difficult to find non-decorated legs in all that mess. Does
anyone else besides me feel like this would be a good split?

No dissent, mess is never good. And since we already have other parts split into
decorated/non-decorated categories, I can't see that some consistency would
be a bad thing to have.

Here's the plan: I'm going to post back here later today with all my
proposed changes (I may have to take this in steps) and give people a chance
to comment.

If you do have a comment/suggestion on where these parts are going, please suggest
an alternative location. Before you comment, look at the situation carefully
and present a good argument about why the proposed category is inappropriate.

Sets:

There are 106 Other sets. Going in order by the standard way of displaying these
(Item Number, Up):

Rio Mascots - Man, some of these are tough. I feel like the Sorting Hat. Create
new category titled Promotional (very open to suggestions for this one)

How about "Co-Brand Promotional"? This would indicate that the sets were: (a)
issued together with another company's branding and is not part of the LEGO
Promotional items; (b) that these might only have been exclusively available
at some place other than TLG; (c) makes it easier to both find in and add to
the catalog. You might have to retitle some to include the co-branding though.

Max - create new category LEGO Club. Thinking about creating top-level category
LEGO Brand with subcategories LEGO Brand Store, LEGO House, LEGO Club, LEGO Inside
Tour, LEGO Employee Gift, LEGO Facilities, LEGO Promotional, and LEGOLAND Parks.
Open to discussion.

Brilliant - Go for it, this might also make things much easier on you when you
get to the "other" gear items.

Yes Thank you

  Skull - move to Rock

Maybe better to move this to some Ornamental category, in which you could also
place those Lion Heads and the Ornamental Fish

Spike - move to Minifigure, Utensil

Or Minifigure, Weapon rather?

Star Wars Multipack - move to Minifigure, Utensil

If all of the parts in this is not on a sprue, would it not do better as a subset?

Wow stunning - Congratulations StormChaser! This is very very well deserved.

In Catalog, Admin_Russell writes:
  Hello everyone,

We are pleased to announce that we have made another appointment. StormChaser,
who was appointed as Inventories Administrator last year, has now been promoted
to Catalog Administrator.

This is an important step for BrickLink. We haven't had a Catalog Admin appointment
for over nine years, and this is the first time someone has moved from the Inventories
side of the system to the Catalog side.

We believe StormChaser is highly qualified for this position. In addition to
an outstanding year as an Inventories Admin, he has had years of intense experience
with every area of the BrickLink Catalog. He has made many thousands of corrections,
uploaded an enormous amount of new data, and has solved a number of LEGO mysteries
over the years. So we're very pleased he has agreed to accept this position,
and we look forward to his activity in this new area.

We will be be making another appointment soon to fill his former position as
Inventories Administrator.

The rate that customs use is actually fixed in advance, and is valid for a month,
and published online usually about 5 days before the end of the month. There
is a small window of ordering time where it won't arrive under next month
and the exchange rate is unknown (like now!). But if you place an order right
at the end of the month after these are published, or in the first couple of
weeks of the next month, you know the customs rate in advance.

informed that all countries where VAT is charged, use this system, go figure

The above was an example though, our actual rate is 10% added to the rate of
exchange the day the goods are presented for clearance, not on the day it arrives.

My honest view here is that the indicative values given by Bricklink, is just
that, purely an indication and it is what I have always used it for.

Bricklink's currency conversions are not set, and neither are the values
on xe.com set and neither are the values displayed in the window of your local
forex broker. The reason being, and this is true for all forex conversions, is
that transactions are recorded at spot rate, not at the rate you see or the rate
that may be quoted in an advertisement. Spot rates further is a weighted mean
average, and not a perfect figure, which is why you will find differences in
cross rates. If you were to convert USD to ZK, ZK to GBP and then GBP to USD
you will end up with a difference, irrespective if you do all of the conversions
at the exact same moment simply because of the demand and supply on different
rates.

Spot rates are your responsibility, for the simple fact of the matter is that
spot rates can change in 1/1000th of a second. You set the rate at the time you
do the transaction and that is it. So if Bricklink is showing you a rate when
you list an item or wish to purchase an item, it is your responsibility to
ensure that the spot rate you use is applicable to you at the time you perform
the transaction, including converting for price guide purposes. So if you want
to be precise, you actually need to have xe as well as paypal open at all times,
not forgetting the differences between buying and selling the forex, which you
are seeing as the weighted mean average at any time.

If you are interested in purchasing 10 x 3001 in white from a store that uses
its base currency as USD, you contract in USD, because that is the currency the
invoice will be made out in. Whether you wish to sell the product in GBP, pay
in GBP, carry it in inventory in GBP, or anything to do at all with your currency
is not germane to the spot rate being fixed at the time of the order (this is
why sellers should not take days to do invoices!!!).

To make matters simpler, the spot for Bricklink's purposes is fixed at the
time of the order, not the invoice (this I assume is because of that unique American
oddity where a purchase order is a credit agreement). So the only concern should
be that the currency conversion should be 100% correct at the time the order
is placed. It is improbable that any site such as this will have the capacity
to do this 100% correctly, so I would agree that for recording purposes, the
exchange rate used at the time of the order should be on the order, even if it
is an hour old. The invoice only affects what you will pay in your own currency,
it has nothing to do with the rate at which you purchased.

Would it not be easier to show the time of updating the forex rates at the top
of every page as well clearly state which is the base currency in force site
wide (I think it is USD, since fees are calculated in USD, but I might be wrong)?
In other words, should bricklink not just show us that the rates now in force
for all transactions, was last updated at x time? That way you can either wait
for the next update and fix your spot rate, or proceed at the ruling rate, which
will then automatically become your spot rate for the transaction at the time
you are performing the transaction, which will include the time you view the
price guide. And, of course, you will then be able to see that these rates are
actually updated every hour, not that we do not trust the masters at Bricklink,
but because it makes good sense to disclose transaction issues at all times.

See below for a transaction example. And I do agree - not disclosing the rate
at which you are performing the transaction is not only confusing, but it can
lead to inadvertent losses. This, like much else in life, can also lead to inadvertent
gains, so I think unless you are dealing with hyper-inflation, you will find
that over time things do tend to even out. Besides, anything to do with forex,
whether it is a spot rate, CFD, FEC, spread trade, currency swap, forex hedge
or whatever other fancy term that is the flavour of the month, is nothing more
than institutional gambling.

(And this might all be as worthless as ﷼)

Jean

Example (using simple rates) for 10 x 3001 in white:

View price at USD10.00 (GBP rate 8.4)
Order at USD10.00 (GBP rate 8.5)
Invoice at USD10.00 (GBP rate 8.7) 5 days later;
Pay at USD10.00 (GBP rate 8.8) 3 days later
Ship FOB at USD10.00 (GBP rate 8.6) 6 days later
Arrives in bond at USD10.00 (GBP rate 8.9) 14 days later (VAT and customs calculated
on 8.9 +5%)
Receive at post office at USD10.00 (GBP rate 8.8) 5 days later;
Cost in inventory at GBP8.50 + VAT and customs (unless you claim the VAT back,
then just include customs as cost)
Forex loss for the time between order and pay, gain for the difference between
pay and shipped, and loss between shipped and received;

That is the contractual treatment, and will be the same whether you buy from
Amazon or Bricklink or whether you actually walk into your bank and order USD
in actual notes. Clearly the price guide cannot show all of these variables,
and you would only use 3 figures in the ordinary course of business - the rate
you order at (which is your cost for inventory purposes), the rate you pay at
(which is your financing of the purchase) and the rate you pay VAT and customs
at (which is the consumption tax rate applicable to the transaction as a whole),
everything else is only impacted if you draw a balance sheet at a certain time.

In Suggestions, calsbricks writes:
We are aware that nothing is going on on the classic site whilst the development
team focus on Bricklink XP, so we will make this as short and sweet as we can.

Having contacted the forum and put all elements of this together it is plain
that a subtle but important change needs to be in place for the price guide screen.

Understanding full well what happens with the 'sold at' columns those
can be left as they are until the whole price guide is revisited, whenever that
is going to be. The current items for sale, however needs s small but important
change, in our view. It is currently not possible to determine the currency conversion
rate for those figures. It could have been anyti8me in the last hour or this
hour or whenever.

Please simply add the two fields which are used to convert e.g. for example $1
= 'x' £;s and £1 = 'x$). This will enable any member, buyer or seller,
to at least get their figures correct when working offline. This is not a complicated
change/fix - it merely requires placing those fields on that screen each time
they change. The fields are held somewhere in the system even if it is a temporary
table, so it should be relatively straight forward to display them on the price
guide screen.

Thoughts ?

That is not the one in his image. I would say that it could definitely be added

While I understand the concept of this request, I have a simple question: What
is the virtue of this feature? What makes it good? […]

One obvious use is to do like S@H: limit resale potential, er, I mean, allow
more customers to be served.

But as a Bricklink seller?

There are lots less overheads involved in selling 10 items to one buyer, than
one each to 10 buyers.

Unless OP was intending it to be like S&H's gift with purchase, i.e. spend
X and you can buy this item cheap.

Supermarket specials? Those that go buy X for Y price limited to two or six or
whatever per customer. That would be one I would use this for. Another, an idea
I've been toying with because of long lead times, would be to limit numbers
per customer where the stock levels gets seriously low too quickly and there
is a long wait for new inventory to arrive. At least you end up helping a few
more people than just one or two. Stockrooms and tiered pricing just does not
help for this at all.

Can we please get a field in the my inventory page for a minimum stock level
for each item and can that please be used to trigger an automatic entry to a
dedicated wantlist as soon as the re-order level is hit?

So for example what I would want is say

Part No: 3001 Name: Brick 2 x 4
*
3001 Brick 2 x 4
Parts: Brick
in red, I would like a minimum
inventory to be in my store of 30. I have 60 at present. An order comes through
for 40, and immediately that part in that colour gets added to my dedicated
wantlist for inventory.

The benefit would be that it is simply a wantlist that needs to be checked daily
and not inventory levels in brickstock or some other off-site inventory management
system. Also obviously easier to re-order as needed, especially for sellers like
me with very long lead-times.

Of course, the best would be if there could be a complete inventory management
on BL as to which this would just a small part of because I really find it frustrating
that inventory management on-site is essentially just the selling price and quantity
available, but... baby steps

Thank you for this update and of course, for working towards putting those assemblies
on a different section.

Just a question though - to get new inventories approved, must the counterparts
as the definition stands now, still be included? It has always bothered me that
I have to assemble wheel and tires to get the inventory "complete" and it would
be a great help if new inventories can be submitted straight as out of the box
with counterparts added later.

Aah glad I'm not the only one with this problem
Sunlight IMO works best, I've sometimes looked at these till my eyes water
under every conceivable type of lightbulb and still made mistakes which came
out later in sunlight. Best is to have them in a pile like you have and then
pick out the ones that do not look as bright, those would be brown (technical
term would be less red, but that would confuse the issue)
If your pile is the same I've marked the ones that stand out clearly.

list color variations specifically in sets. I've had different shades of
Yellow come out of brand new sets, not as in the actual difference between bright
light yellow an yellow for instance, but more as a faded or dirty yellow. It
is especially noticeable on smaller hinges and clips as well as plates and modified
bricks. There was a thread on the forum some years ago where the variations in
dark red was discussed, if memory serves me correctly, and it was then generally
agreed that the parts produced in China at the time came out in a slightly brighter/lighter
shade of dark red than those produced elsewhere, and I think the approach was
taken at time that it remains the official color.

I'm at present sitting on about a thousand different Maersk Blue pieces,
and there is a distinct difference in parts I acquired in 2010/2011 as opposed
to parts acquired after 2012, this being the reason I will probably not list
those at all and rather just part out the Maersk Container Train as a reference
color. The difference is really just plain horrifying. I also have some blue
pieces that goes more the shade of dark azure than anything blue in my collection,
those have been binned as I just assumed the same trouble I've had with dark
pink in the past. I've also had white and light bluish grey parts vary over
time and normally bin those if the difference is far too noticeable. Pearl Gold
parts have so much variation on it, sometimes even from part to part, that I
don't even bother and it will be cumbersome at best to sort through to ensure
all parts sent in a batch are the same hue, heck given our new fanatical approach
to energy saving lighting here, I wont even get a decent enough light bulb to
do that sort of sorting at any time other than daylight, and maybe not even then.

I've just always taken the approach that, since even my newly opened sets
have slight color variations in, to just accept it as part of some LEGO idiosyncrasy
in stead of trying to get part colors to match up 100% in the best light I could
get.

In Colors, MidwayPete writes:
Is there any resource that describes the slight color variations of new LEGO
parts.

For instance, I know that there are two distinct shades of Dark Red and two distinct
shades of Reddish Brown.

I swear that there are two different yellows (official LEGO color: Bright Yellow)
but this is a very subtle difference, if it exists at all.

I don't expect sellers to sort the parts by these slight variations. As a
buyer, however, I would like to be able to confirm that yes, these parts I just
ordered are all Pearl Gold, despite the fact that I can see two different hues
when I dump the bag of parts on my sorting table.

Ryan Howerter's color guide on Flickr is quite helpful, but it seems to me
that the Bricklink catalog could include a brief comment when there are more
than one acceptable variations of the same color. And by "acceptable," I mean
that these are color variations produced by LEGO under the same color name.

These minifigs:

Minifig No: mba001 Name: MBA Level One Minifigure
*
mba001 (Inv) MBA Level One Minifigure
Minifigures: Master Builder Academy

Minifig No: mba002 Name: MBA Level Two Minifigure
*
mba002 (Inv) MBA Level Two Minifigure
Minifigures: Master Builder Academy

Minifig No: mba003 Name: MBA Level Three Minifigure with Backpack Assembly
*
mba003 (Inv) MBA Level Three Minifigure with Backpack Assembly
Minifigures: Master Builder Academy
are at present listed in the catalog as the minifig with headgear in the case
of the first two, and a backpack accesory that is built up from parts for the
third.

As the minifigs are used interchangeably in the each of the three sets they each
come from, should the catalog entry not rather reflect the minifig without any
headgear or accessories? The images below are from the instructions in each of
the sets, where it is shown that the minifig is used as a base entry without
any accessories or headgear.

It is my understanding that the figs were originally listed to reflect only the
minifig as it appears in the first of any of the three sets that it will be used
for.

Alternatively, if the catalog is meant to be showing a minifig complete as per
the instructions, should all the accessories from all three sets any one minifig
represents, not then be the complete catalog entry?
