As far as I know they are not assemblies because they came separate in the sets.
I have separated hundreds/thousands without causing any damage.

I believe that assemblies are not only made for pre-assembled parts in sets.
Example:

Part No: 2878c02 Name: Train Wheel RC, Holder with 2 Black Train Wheel RC Train and Chrome Silver Train Wheel RC Train, Metal Axle (2878 / 57878 / x1687)
*
2878c02 (Inv) Train Wheel RC, Holder with 2 Black Train Wheel RC Train and Chrome Silver Train Wheel RC Train, Metal Axle (2878 / 57878 / x1687)
Parts: Wheel

This part is even easier to disassemble than the hinges, and have no risk of
inducing stress marks.

All wheel assemblies are automatically approved if they are assembled as such
in the instructions.

For the larger hinges, that may present a problem. I would not put any work into
photos, etc unless you know for sure we are going to take them. If I had to make
a decision now, I would say no, but with more time we might come up with a good
reason for them.

There are no guidelines at the moment for part assemblies, just as there are
no guidelines for part variants. If you're asking for suggestions, I would
suggest waiting until we have updated guidelines in place before submitting these
parts as assemblies.

Our goal is to have the guidelines fully updated by the end of the year. As
of this moment we have 18 out of 27 updated and only have 9 left to complete.
All of that work has occurred since February, 2020.

Ok, so this might open a can of worms, but is there a reason why some statuettes
are minifigures and others are minifig, untensil, decorated?? Or is it just
up to whatever the person who adds it feels like doing?

My sense is that if they were supposed to be a small minifig then it was added
as such and if it was used as an actual statue/toy then it was added as a utensil.

Yep.

Astronaut guy doesn't seem to follow the pattern.

I tried to have this fixed almost three years ago and was rejected by the catalog
admins at that time without even an explanation.

You are exceptionally polite in your persistence.

Hence the reason why I communicate with users about every Inventory Change Request
I do not approve. Users deserve that respect.
