A little more complicated, but without the intense spamming:

BL builds in a kind of public tender system.
Buyers can then issue a tender by adding their WL (or parts of it) and defining
how long the sellers can participate (5 days, 30 days...) and who can participate
(worldwide or just particular countries, only sellers with minimum 99% praise
and so on).

Then the sellers have the possibility to add items to their offer (from their
inventory and/or by adding it "manually") and to adjust the price if they want
to. Until the offer is accepted/rejected by the buyer or cancelled, all items
in the offer are "locked".

Good input. Great thoughts!

(sorry for the bad English)

Your English is very good, Phillip. Impressive, in fact.

Cory,

I have read through this thread and it appears that there is lack of transparency
for sellers on what parts buyers need, what parts sell well and so forth. Personally,
I have a lot of wanted lists that I have no intention on fulfilling. Many of
them are remnants of what I was interested in at a given moment and I personally
just have not gone to delete them for various reasons, mainly being a low priority.
This problem alone would create a lot of dead end work for the seller trying
to fulfill a wanted list that the buyer has no intention in fulfilling. There
are many other practical reasons for wanted lists that buyers use them for, to
serve as a reminder of parts to look for in stores when they need to pad their
cart to meet minimum, but not necessarily an critical item they need to buy.
Those could be just nice to have parts if an opportunity arrises, so as not to
pay additional shipping just for those part(s).

Having been a seller, I understand the frustration of what to stock up on, and
I know the main advice is quantity, variety, highly desirables and high turn
overs. The problem is that Bricklink attracts people from all sorts of corners
of the world with wide range of needs.

The other problem with Wanted lists and stores is that even though the Wanted
List search function looks for stores with say most unique lots or a combination
search, the buyer is still tasked with trying to find a combination of stores
with best value (cost of parts vs cost of shipping). BL used to find stores with
cheapest cost, but I believe that was removed soon after it was implemented,
as in a long term it was causing price erosion for sellers, which is a valid
concern.

All in all, it's a balancing act of sellers and buyers doing their part,
with the sellers obviously carrying the financial burden of cost of inventory,
time and labor. I appreciate all the hard work that goes into it. I have carried
the burden for about 2-3 years, and I got burned out.

I think seller's tools would be very welcome for sellers in understanding
what parts sell well in their store and what parts are up rising/falling in demand.
Obviously with such tools, it would create more fierce completion amongst sellers
to provide best selling inventor, which in turn would change the behavior of
buyers and ultimately the demand of parts. Essentially what Youtube is currently
doing by changing their algorithm, which is changing what people watch and changing
the game ever so frequently.

I no longer have much at stake in selling, but as an infrequent buyer, I still
use this site and change is needed to keep up with expectations of both buyers
and sellers.

Good read, Miro. Astute.

Thanks for your well-thought-out input.

Kinda miss your voice around here. Your posts are infrequent nowadays, or maybe
I'm just not looking in the right places

At the wanted lists "home page" there's obviouly the list of all your wanted
lists. But on the left, there's a menu where you can click on different part
catagories, set themes, minifigure themes, and such to see what you want from
that subsection across all your wanted lists. I would like the ability to filter
this to look at certain lists and not others, simular to when you're looking
at a store and can choose which wanted lists you want to buy for. I have 18 lists
and it is a little crowded and difficult to compare 2-4 lists with all that extra
information.

When looking at items in a store there are several options on how to sort the
items (price, quantity, color, etc). I would like a RECENTLY UPDATED option to
be added. This is simular to the RECENTLY ADDED, but not quite.

Recently it took me a few days to finalize a cart and I noticed price and quantity
changes for items in my cart. So I went back to the store to see if pieces I
thought were too expensive had gone down or if more pieces were added to an item
I wanted more of. But I couldn't find an easy way to see this without going
through every item again (which takes a while then there are hundreds of items
in my wantedlists/cart).

The RECENTLY ADDED option just shows when a piece was first added, not updated.
For instance the store I was in, said the most recent item was added in 2012.
This shows a false sense of inactivity which is obviouly wrong when stuff is
changing in my cart and this store has fulfilled thousands of orders. This additional
option would help people like me in simular situations, those who have recently
bought from the store and want to buy again, or who are adding to an order over
the next week or so (I see alot of store allowing this).

I think also there should be sanctions where this appears to be deliberate. If
you make a mistake (such as listing new when it has been used) and it is reported
and BL agrees, then it's fine and you should learn from it. If you make that
same mistake again (say within six months or a year), then you get a week's
ban from selling. If you do it again after that, it's a month ban.

Maybe with different limits for bigger stores / higher turnover stores.

Unless this already exits in some form (if it do, please inlighten me as to how
it works!), I suggest a button for “show items on wanted lists” when visiting
stores. Quite often when I’m visting stores, browsing around for additional items,
I stumble upon items marked as “on want list”. It would be a lot easier if it
was possible to just see all items in store that are already on my wanted lists,
instead of having to search through 100’s of pages in different categories...
I am aware of the whole ‘buy wanted items’ auto function, so it’s not that I’m
missing... It’s more when already committed to a store, I wanna stock up and
save on postage.

Thanks for an otherwise excellent site!

Can't go wrong in quoting Aristotle.

In fact I think the phrase should be adopted as a motto of the forum, to be hung
across the top of the page. It would be a beacon of idea, for forum users. Sadly,
I don't think many of the "regulars" would embrace it as their credo. For
too many of us, the guiding beacon is 'being right' or more succinctly,
'not to be perceived as being wrong'

I will say after reading your posts for some time, you don't seem to suffer
the same frailty of character. I think I posted some time back "who is this masked
man" out of admiration of your character. It might of been you, there are actually
several forum regulars that display such grace, just not all.

Anyway, we are taking a drive through the Northern Cascades, hopefully today.
Gotta get my coffee on, and my offspring up and going.

out and play?

To those that have no problem using the ignore feature, I would encourage it
be used on my profile. For a self-serving reason, though: it's just one less
sourpuss I'll have to deal with in my posts, is the way I've seen it
for some time, now.

I agree. But in all fairness we can't ignore the question in the back of
our minds: When is this guy finally going to buy some more LEGO?

My wallet has the reverse question

Though getting around 700€ of LEGO for around 15€ thanks to coupons and destocking
made us both quite happy a couple months ago

Wow! Then my question changes... Why is this guy not selling any LEGO?

What, with all the problems you sellers continuously whine about on the forum?

Besides, MY precious, MINE!

You're here discussing its problems out of your own free will, who's
silly now?

I'm surprised that as frequent of a user you are you took twice as long to
get to the point I got too. The best way to deal with trolls is to not feed them
(though I do fully understand this snack I'm writing to you will be eaten
readily)

Until we get actual moderators that have the ability to police bad behavior the
ignore button and pity are our only tools

Also for what it's worth I took many years to hit 30 ish FB. I was living
in an apartment and didn't have room to build anything. It isn't a user
value system.

That would be something! We usually have around 100 pounds of un-inventoried
parts on our sorting table but, have little idea what people want to buy! So
we just randomly add as we see fit.

Yet another good point.

Great input, Rachel. Thanks!
