  Hello all Bricklinkers!
I found this 2 x 4 brick, in pink color (I guess...) without cross supports.
In the 3001old entry, there are no pink parts. However, I can find it at the
3001special entry (special bricks, test bricks and/or prototypes). The thing
is, all the pictures in this entry have a letter on the studs (f, c, etc). My
part have a old 'lego' logo printed on the studs. Is this still a 3001special?
Or is another kind of 3001 brick that I can't find?
Thanks in advance for your help!
(An yes, the part needs a serious bath ... )

3001special.

3001old was never made in this color.

Older test bricks were made in molds that were previously used for regular production.
The test bricks with letters and other markings are more recent.

What was LEGO thinking when they branded this??

When these were made, they would have been as common as a branded coffee cup
is today.

  Hello!

I would like to formally ask for IDEAL as a payment method for the Dutch customer's

This payment method is long been the favorite for the majority in the Netherlands.

Currently there seems to be a limitation in Stripe to add this payment method
to instant checkout.

I did search on other topics related to this : but beside one I placed in the
wrong section;
the other topics are quite old.

So please do consider this small change in the stripe platform , it will be of
great benefit for all Dutch sellers and buyers a like.

It's a very safe , trusted, and recognizable payment platform that I'm
positive will also help with onsite instant checkouts (tax collection).

Kind regards

Bastiaan

FamilyBuilds

It’s the “IDEAL” payment method.

Well its not just about ideal really at this point, there are more easy to implement
options with stripe available; some more local then others..

Im glad the discussion for it is rolling though.

As a seller mostly myself, i dont even get any benefits for it.
It is just a extra service for mine and also other sellers stores towards the
ever changing needs of customers.

For the times i do buy here, as well as on Lego store i would love to pay with
iDeal over paypal. Simply because it is my most used method for close to a decade.

Germans, french, us, and more they all have different go to methods supported
by stripe.

But im glad the ball is rolling,
For those who truely where concerned of a daily forum spam;

I do hope u realise i have more to do in life then actual make an "daily"
forum dedication, the point was that this should be rolling for the benefit of
buyers, bricklink ,and sellers alike..

Best wishes

Every Dutch bank works with iDeal . Every Duch buyer can simply use it.

I did not have a PayPal account before I needed it for BrickLink. I still don't
like using this odd intermediate, when applications like iDeal are so much more
convenient.

I think that we should consider splitting these parts in the catalog. That would
only add two parts, which can be easily identified. They would be the alternate
versions for:

Part No: x1446  Name: Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
*
x1446 Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
Parts: Jumbo Bricks

Part No: x1447c01 Name: Jumbo Vehicle Base 4 x 8 with Red Wheels and Pull String
*
x1447c01 Jumbo Vehicle Base 4 x 8 with Red Wheels and Pull String
Parts: Jumbo Bricks

The inventory updates would be very easy to make, there was no mixed use because
the bricks are not compatible.

The x1447c01 might have used a different color 3001oldb on the end of the string,
but I have not been able to confirm that yet. I would explain 3001oldb-bricks
that have been found.

Part No: 3001oldb Name: Brick 2 x 4 without Cross Supports, with Hole in Top
*
3001oldb Brick 2 x 4 without Cross Supports, with Hole in Top
Parts: Brick

The x1447c01 still need an inventory consisting of the cart, string and 3001oldb.
Sadly, I don't have one yet.

You also seem to have about double the number of red and white bricks that would
normally be included in this set?

I counted 24 white and 24 red, in addition to 6 blue, but according to

Set No: 105 Name: Pre-School Beginners Set
*
105-4 (Inv) Pre-School Beginners Set
24 Parts, 1964
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

it should have only 12 of each.

I'll need to see what sets came with red, white and blue to see if they're
from another set.

Maybe this one? Seems to have the right number according to its inventory:

Set No: 044 Name: Jumbo Bricks
*
044-2 (Inv) Jumbo Bricks
30 Parts, 1969
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

However without the box it's only as valuable as its individual parts - which,
don't get me wrong, are valuable.

Part No: x1446  Name: Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
*
x1446 Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
Parts: Jumbo Bricks {White}

Part No: x1446  Name: Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
*
x1446 Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
Parts: Jumbo Bricks {Red}

Part No: x1446  Name: Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
*
x1446 Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
Parts: Jumbo Bricks {Blue}

Most "high value" bricks seem to be mostly either the (much less common)
European version of these bricks skewing the price guide, or one Italian seller.
There certainly is value in this set, but don't look at the highest prices
for individual bricks in the catalog.

I mean, it's not my business so I don't really care, but if it's
BL wish to be law-compliant, this isn't enough. They'd have to moderate
the sale function itself, not just the forum. (And, talking about law-compliancy,
change several other things, such as stop pumping seller's mailboxes full
of IP addresses of their buyers, which is a GDPR violation because it counts
as private data and it counts as irrelevant for the purpose).

BL is law-compliant when BL risks something and, AFAIK, BL doesn’t risk anything
here, only the sellers do.  Actually, also AFAIK, nothing says marketplaces should
enforce those laws in acting, preventing, warning the sellers, applying to the
local authorities or whatever.
OTOH, members can apply to the local authorities to investigate the sellers.
But then I won’t bet on the chances of something happening to those small fishes.

Ehm... I am no specialist but at first sight BrickLink does risk liability if
they share private data that is not relevant for the purpose. (A seller needs
the buyer's address to ship an order, but does for example not need that
IP address). If this data is collected and shared, then BrickLink is the party
doing that. By offering their services in the EU, the GDPR applies. If anyone
files a complaint to the relevant authorities, I think that could make BrickLink
liable for 1) possibly collecting more data than needed, and 2) a data leak because
they share the information with others (the sellers). The related fines can be
serious, so BL does risk something. Compared to other offenders, I think BL is
not at the top of their priority list, but that is no reason not to comply with
the law.

  Opinions?
I do not have a lot of money to my name a mere 300 dollars in my bank and I could
really use the help with figuring out how to get this to a good home. So I can
also keep surviving.

I was also told to contact lego to ask if they needed this for their vault. I
messaged them but no word back just yet. People were talking about how Lego might
buy it from me or trade me something for it? I could use a job :p

LEGO sometimes buys items for their own collection. Usually, those would be very
rare items in excellent condition. They do not buy "everything they do not
have".

  In your opinion what would you buy this for?
I think this is worth at most 300 usd. But it might be worth more to the right
buyer.

Not my field of expertise, so I can't advise on value...
The value is in having the box with it, because not many seem to have survived.
The bricks can be found more easily.

  This oddly came with blue bricks as well. Maybe this is a packaging mistake?

-Lina

You seem to have more bricks than were originally included in the set. I agree
with Stuart, probably parts from another set were stored in the same box.

When LEGO tried to develop a larger brick for young children, they first experimented
with Jumbo bricks. Soon, these were replaced by the Duplo size we stil know today.

The LEGO designers tried several things, and as a result there are two very different
versions of the 2x4 Jumbo brick x1446.

Part No: x1446  Name: Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
*
x1446 Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
Parts: Jumbo Bricks

Samsonite verion
Best known is the Samsonite version.

These bricks were designed in Denmark using the metric system, but produced and
released in North America. A 1x1x1 brick unit size would be 25x25x25 mm, minus
(2 x 0,2 mm) tolerance taken from the ends to allow for building. The resulting
2x4 brick would be 50 x 100 x 25 mm minus a tolerance taken from the length and
with to allow for easy building. As a result, the actual 2x4 brick is 49,6 x
99,6 x 25 mm in size.

This is close to imperial (inch) based sizes, but it really is SI metric. The
height including the stud (and logo) is 30,3 mm. The stud diameter is 21,6 mm,
noticably larger than on the European bricks.

The Samsonite Jumbo bricks are generally known to "not work with any other
LEGO system", but in reality the size of these bricks IS exactly 5x the Modulex
system. The bricks themselves don't connect with each other though.

Samsonite Jumbo bricks were used in:

Set No: 041 Name: Pre-School Beginners Set
*
041-1 (Inv) Pre-School Beginners Set
24 Parts, 1964
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 042 Name: Jumbo Brick Pull Toy
*
042-1 (Inv) Jumbo Brick Pull Toy
9 Parts, 1966
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 044 Name: Jumbo Bricks
*
044-2 (Inv) Jumbo Bricks
30 Parts, 1969
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 105 Name: Pre-School Beginners Set
*
105-4 (Inv) Pre-School Beginners Set
24 Parts, 1964
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 300 Name: Jumbo Bricks
*
300-2 (Inv) Jumbo Bricks
30 Parts, 1972
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 14 Name: Jumbo Building Bricks
*
14-5 (Inv) Jumbo Building Bricks
60 Parts
Sets: Educational & Dacta: Jumbo Bricks

European version
Less known is the European version of the Jumbo bricks. This seems to be mainly
because they were made in smaller quantities and were available for a shorter
time.

The size of these bricks is exactly 3x the regular system. This seems to be a
later design idea, leading to the 2x system size of the later Duplo bricks.

A 1x1x1 brick unit size would be 24x24x28,8 mm, minus (2 x 0,2 mm) tolerance
taken from the ends to allow for building. As a result, the actual 2x4 brick
is 47,6 x 95,6 x 28,8 mm in size. The height including the stud (and logo) is
34,3 mm. The stud diameter is 17,9 mm, noticably smaller than on the Samsonite
bricks.

European Jumbo bricks were used in:

Set No: 501 Name: JUMBO Pull Toy
*
501-3 (Inv) JUMBO Pull Toy
9 Parts, 1966
Sets: Classic: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 502 Name: Pre-School Medium Set
*
502-2 (Inv) Pre-School Medium Set
8 Parts, 1968
Sets: Classic: Jumbo Bricks

Set No: 503 Name: Pre-School Large Set
*
503-2 (Inv) Pre-School Large Set
16 Parts, 1968
Sets: Classic: Jumbo Bricks

Looking at the images (especially when you find better quality images of these
sets), the difference in relative stud size is recognisable.

The catalog image shows how to easily separate the two variants. That is very
useful.

An additional image and catalog note to explain why the difference is important
could help the catalog. The parts look alike, but were designed for different
purposes.

They seem like pretty useless distinctions.

I would also like to suggest something the site should have done before even
considering merging anything. The site should have made it quite
clear in writing in the catalog help pages what is an acceptable variant for
this website and what is not.

Otherwise, it's just up to the whim of whomever is deciding, which is no
way to run a business.

Sadly, I got no response earlier.

So someone messed up, but I can only get vat back from BL. And VAT is no one's
profit or revenue, so there should be no issue sending it back me. Its just one
big confusing dark hole and I dont know who or where to turn to get my VAT back

Thanks, seller says they never had an issue sending to the EU. He showed me this

See attached. This is shown to a seller for any order where VAT was collected.
The 1st link "Download VAT receipt" shows you the order invoice with
this statement:

"VAT has been collected sufficiently under the IOSS mechanism."

Every invoice has this statement. It has no connection to the shipping carrier.

The 2nd link "IOSS number" shows the attached text. Did your buyer do
this? I don't think they did, which is why you were charged twice.

These are instructions for the SELLER.
As it explains, the IOSS number must be submitted electronically by the shipping
company. That information is provided by the seller when preparing the shipping
label.

So yes, the Seller made an error by not submitting that number correctly.
That does not change the fact the BrickLink is the party holding the funds and
the only party able to refund.
