Difficult to see in 1986 catalog, but the 2 x 8 brick is actually two 2 x 4 bricks. BrickLink original box photo shows one of the 2 x 4 bricks in red. Current title and 1986 catalog both say set has 29 parts - the 29th part is unknown.

Finally found the instruction for this set. PCC for this part is 6174085 in the instruction, so it is Pearl Gold not Metallic Gold.
